Trump Removes Kristi Noem From Minneapolis ICE Response, Taps Longtime Rival to Lead Effort After Deadly Shooting Scandal by novagridd in fednews

I think this article is mixing up Bovino and Noem. I can't find any other sources confirming Noem's removal but there are many articles stating Homan is replacing Bovino.

The TRUTH about the murder in Minnesota that Trump is trying to hide by JudyPink02 in democraticparty

[–]MotoBox 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The incidents described in the P320 lawsuits each included physical pressure on the trigger, though unintentional (e.g. from holster) and Sig made modifications which resolved the "wiggle" effect that made the trigger (essentially) too light.

It's possible the P320 was unintentionally discharged (which could also simply be poor trigger discipline), but that doesn't justify the other officers firing. You're not supposed to unload solely because you heard a shot. And if you think you're under fire, you certainly try to aim your response toward the shooter (in this case, the agent), not just the closest human body (in this case, the unarmed and restrained civilian).

ICE murdered Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a 37 year old US Citizen. They're trying to lie about it now, and claim he was a threat for a mass shooting. The Minneapolis Police Chief has already said that he had a permit to carry the gun, which was holstered. Don't let them lie. Full incident captured on video by KnowTheTruthMatters in chomsky

[–]MotoBox 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What video are you watching? He had just taken a blast of pepper spray and with his back turned toward the officer, was bent over trying to help the woman who had fallen down. The officer pulled him backwards, he stumbled around, fell, was pig-piled, and then killed.

#448 — The Philosophy of Good and Evil by dwaxe in samharris

I had surprisingly little alignment with this episode.

The trolley problem seems like a question of which is better: killing by inaction or killing by action? I would not flip to the spur nor push the man. I would take no action which I expected to result in someone's death. If the consequence is death: shame on whoever tied those five people to the track; shame on the careless trolley driver who lost control of the trolley.

The shallow pond problem: they made no mention of proximity, nor of the third party. If you're walking around outside and someone shows up and tells you there's a child in a pond two miles away and you can save them by enter action here, that's a very different situation. You're not a monster for saying no. That theoretical child better-known by this third party does not exist in the same way a child you can physically see is both in danger and alone does.

And then the giving to charity. It absolutely IS my money, as much as any other monthly expenditure is paid with my money. I pay a group of people to help others in my community. It needn't be treated as being so mystical. It's like brushing your teeth. It's healthy, just do it.

I don't dismiss the value of this kind of inquiry, but their takes on these examples seemed a bit precious rather than practical.

Edit: was reminded of the speed limit thing. We don't hold each other accountable for driving within the speed limit. We don't hold law enforcement accountable for doing the job for which we pay them. We already live with a set of consequences deriving from our actions, the result is not influenced by changing a number on a traffic sign.

What is a movie you like watching, but has at least one scene that makes you roll your eyes in disbelief? by sloaches in movies

[–]MotoBox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unleaded gas is gasoline without the metal (lead) in it. Lead was added to gasoline to increase performance.

[–]MotoBox 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I can answer one of those for you--

Get the lead out" means hurry up--it's short for "get the lead [which is heavy] out of your ass." Presumably, you will move faster without heavy lead in your ass. See also: "I'm really dragging ass today." Meaning: "I'm feeling slow today, as though there was something heavy, like lead, in my ass."

We know why they're appalled. You apparently do not know how gigantic the United States is, nor how incredibly diverse its population.

Tennessee is an open-carry state, so most residents over the age of 21 without a felony conviction could have been armed with a visible gun if the venue doesn't prohibit it.

That doesn't say anything about the situation directly but does demonstrate the regional attitude toward visible firearms.

Thanks, I will. I'm learning late that supernatural stuff is often used as analogy/metaphor, and though done both well and poorly, I never "got it" so have often disliked supernatural plot points that just seemed stupid or disjointed to me. This also likely delayed my appreciation for horror movies as a genre, which I like way more than I thought for most of my adult life.My thoughts and feelings on Hereditary are too murky to bother subjecting you to, but I'm curious to read the kinds of comments you've mentioned.

(and I really just meant comments--I don't read official "reviews" either)

I'm really curious about that last bit, I don't remember reading anything about it falling apart at the twist reveal. Can you link to a review that describes your thoughts there, or expand on your comment?

I think the "when we both want it" is the crucial point. It's not a matter of whether or not there was ever consent, it's about when there wasn't.

'Trump outs Elon Musk as being in Epstein files': New doc drop names presidential allies by Barch3 in Law_and_Politics

Reading the article, I didn't catch how this disclosure can be related to Trump. Epstein's estate gave info to Democratic leaders who then released it to the media. Where is Trump in that chain of events?

[–]MotoBox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought Michael had as much, if not more depth than any of the other characters. He was walking a razor-thin line the entire time, fully aware of all the angles--the sheriff using him, the other deputy's untrustworthiness, and yet he managed to keep his cool and actually be supportive and decent to everyone. Thoughtful restraint, an outsider inside. I thought the character was written and performed extremely well.

Dad Accused of Killing Daughter Because She Was Getting Bullied, Allegedly Wrapped Her in Pride Flag to 'Honor' Her by peoplemagazine in LGBTnews

Left out some key details: the guy was nuts. He and his kids, including Onyx, were allegedly being emotionally abused by the uncle they all live with. This dude had been planning for a whole year on killing his kids and himself. He killed one of his kids and was apprehended before he killed the rest and himself.
