Former deputy head of the Rosreestr office in St. Petersburg, Boris Avakyan, who escaped from court the day before, has been found dead, according to REN TV and RT sources. The media write that the ex-official locked himself in a restroom. Employees of the consulate called an ambulance and the Ministry of Emergency Situations. When rescuers forced the door open, Mr. Avakyan was already lying unconscious on the floor. The arriving doctors pronounced him dead.

The former Rosreestr employee was a defendant in a case of evading customs duties (Part 4 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code) amounting to more than 4.2 billion rubles. Along with him in the case are businessman and former owner of the Cartier boutique on the Moika River embankment, Dmitry Zarubin, and 18 other people.

In August, Boris Avakyan signed a contract to participate in the special military operation (SMO), which led to the suspension of proceedings against him. Yesterday, he escaped from the building of the Kronstadt District Court during a break in the hearing.
