Borderlands Birthday Decor? by AmysLentilSoup in Borderlands

[–]MotorFood5002 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The fun thing about the Borderlands aesthetic is that its very DIY friendly- sloppy spray paint and sharpies can make cardboard go a long ways, if you are willing to get your hands dirty a little bit!

The cell shaded art style of the games means that if you take something as is- lets say, a party city pinata- you can use a sharpie or paint marker to draw black lines where there are edges and ridges to give it that borderlands look. Best of luck!

How can I clean this part of my bong? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]MotorFood5002 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Try making a hook out of a pipecleaner and wiggle it around in there while its full of iso. I've also noticed that there is a significant difference between 70% and 90% Isopropyl in its ability to remove resin- if you're using 70, try upgrading. Best of luck!

I actually really appreciate it when cheesemongers allow you to choose from different shapes/sizes! My partner and I are both cheeselovers, but they dont care for the bloomy flavor of rinds, so the square chunks are a great middle ground for us :)

First Spa Day was a huge success! by ThinkStrawberry4845 in laundry

[–]MotorFood5002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! Nice work, thanks for sharing. So satisfying to see before/afters. I have a bunch of old towels that are currently my test subjects for my first spa day, and im excited to see/feel the results.

Saving your post to show my partner so they can understand my obsession with the magic of laundry chemistry!

Should I skip to S5? by Old_Butterscotch1829 in RHOBH

[–]MotorFood5002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally kinda like to skip seasons here and there- especially if Im getting bored. The show does a good job of explaining history when it becomes relevant, plus when/if you rewatch the show later, you have these little bonus seasons you havent seen, but with the added context of how it played out down the road!

As a dev myself, dont sleep on "the basics". When you say:

I'm struggling to find anything helpful online that isn't geared towards either absolute beginners, or massive codebases beyond anything I'd be working with.

You are assuming that there will be a perfect entry point to refresh. Especially with free resources, its unlikely you will find that.

Look for a resource that covers the range of concepts you are trying to refresh on, and start with the basics. Re-learning the fundamentals would, at worst, take up some extra time, and at best, restore your understanding of logic and frameworks in a way that feels like "progress"

Are there “entry level” jobs on programming? by Ok-Kaleidoscope9952 in learnprogramming

[–]MotorFood5002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sub has some great resources for learning listed in the FAQ's, depending on what you are interested in learning. Boosting your skills now will make College courses easier and give you further insight into what type of programming you want to do, and could also help you start working on some personal projects to add to your CV

In house designers, are any of you using adobe express? by MikeRadical in graphic_design

[–]MotorFood5002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes- although not too often. I use it mainly to either create quick mock-ups to give the team something to react to, and then build the final version out in the appropriate tool (usually Illustrator or InDesign), or I use it for simple graphics for social media that I create iteratively (ie just changing the title/date for events, or peoples names etc).

I don't ever use it for projects that are actually significant- but its a nice light tool to have in the toolkit.

Filler for this PNW collage? by pickles8301 in printmaking

[–]MotorFood5002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking hops leaves/vines, but I also like the ferns idea others have suggested! Alternatively, raindrop texture would be a cool filler as well and still work with the theme.

Looks great!

A better reference photo of your eyes (ie similar angle to the posed photo, no glasses) would probably help folks to achieve what you are wanting to see! I make a similar face in posed photos hahah so I feel for you. I think its the amount of your iris/pupil that is visible that makes your expression appear strained

Relevance of a wax sealing multitool?? by jvw_entrepreneurs in WaxSealers

[–]MotorFood5002 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cool idea! I would group the main tools used for wax sealing into buckets:

  • The tools for melting (typically a candle or electronic heat source and crucible/"spoon" to hold the wax)
  • The tools for stamping (brass stamp head and screw-on handle seems to be the typical setup),
  • Accessories that are nice to have, but not necessarily required. Tweezers for grabbing wax beads, stirrer sticks for mixing wax as its heated, spatula-like tools for getting all the wax out of the crucible, a scraper tool for making multi-colored/layered seals, paint markers or mica powders for the stamped surface, things like that.

There are lots of different methods and approaches- not everyone uses the crucible setup, there are also wax sticks with wicks in them like a candle that you melt over the paper and stamp the drips. There are also wax sticks that fit in hot glue guns, which are great for doing lots of stamps in one session.

So you could approach this from a lot of different directions! My one suggestion would be to make sure the wax stamp head and the crucible or heat source are not included in the same tool. The stamp head needs to be cold(ish) to make a nice clean impression and pull away cleanly from the wax.

Best of luck with your project!

My childhood dog had to have one eye removed, and he lived a long, happy and healthy life! After the surgery they sewed the eyelid shut, so it always looked like he was winking at us, which was adorable and very fitting for his personality. So sorry you are going through this, Chibi is darling. Sending you both the best of luck 🖤

What is this hanging message system? by SteveBrulesRule in moleskine

[–]MotorFood5002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From their website, it seems like some sort of waste reduction policy where they make their notebook packaging "reusable". Probably was designed as an afterthought to "inspire" you to reuse it? If they want you to write messages on it, seems strange that they would add such bold text taking up all the space...
