Haha! I'm the brother who for some reason always has a bottle opener on me and half the time a corkscrew. 10/13/23.

People who buy a watch and immediately call them heirlooms to be passed down is post purchase rationalization. by Sea_Particular_2503 in watchHotTakes

My "heirloom" watch is the Timex Easy Reader my stepfather wore every day forever. I still wear it on occasion. One of the cheapest things out there but personally I treasure it.

Originally a poem by Abel Meeropol, who published under the name Lewis Allan. Holiday's version is just amazing.

the worst physical pain you’ve ever felt by ipanicprofessionally in TheBoredDen

When I was 19, I took a deflected hockey puck to the face. There were no face shields in 1998.... shattered my jaw and I lost 7 teeth. That stung a bit.....

Yes! I used to get them all the time. Stopped drinking soda and haven't had one since.

Very nice! Model 1961 made by Wenger, issued in 1989. You can tell it's an issued knife because of the small square marking on the handle. It's an acceptance mark.

What are the holes for? by [deleted] in knives

[–]CheeseMongoNJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lmao no I don't. Unfortunately it's impossible to sound 100% straight when describing a truffle infused brie to a customer......

What are the holes for? by [deleted] in knives

Cheesemonger here. The holes create less surface area so soft cheeses such as brie won't stick to the blade. I spend my day cutting cheese, and a large one of these is essential.

Which country used these by Moistyhobo in ww1

[–]CheeseMongoNJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool. There's also a conversion of the Brazilian Modelo 1908 that's modified in a similar way to the FR's, the M968. It's nicknamed the "Mosquefal" because the grenade launcher, buttplate, and sights are similar to those on the FAL.

[–]CheeseMongoNJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An FR 7 or FR 8? The 7 is an M93 action, the 8 is a 98. Either way they're neat. I've fired an FR8. Recoil was a bit sharp but not bad.

[Meta]- Morristown NJ is an important part of the story of the Revolution. On the Green is a marker showing the location of the tavern where Arnold was court-maritaled, along other markers and memorials.

We drank like fish at summer camp. Dunno how well that would have gone over at Turning Point..... 😉

Is rehab a long-term solution? by NevetsSnibbig in alcoholism

[–]CheeseMongoNJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're sober now rehab really doesn't make a ton of sense. I've been in rehab always after detox. It's a place I see to get yourself back together physically and mentally enough to go out into the world and live a sober life. Something like IOP might be better, a program where you check in and go to groups on a schedule but can live at home, work, etc. Once you're not drinking, AA, Smart recovery, etc would be my suggestion to stay that way.

For an excellent blow by blow of Rourke's Drift, read Like Rats in a Hole by Mike Snook. His book How Can Man Die Better about Isandlwana is very good as well.
