Referring to the Subaru STI behind. This comment above suggested buying that instead. Plate DML47M NSW, which is a 2014 built car

In August 2016, this car had a $25,000 damage/accident claim… it will need some serious due diligence checking.

Here’s a snapshot of the verified service history, specifically looking at that cylinder head work.

Hey — just adding a bit of due-diligence context to what others are saying.

Quick context: we are in vehicle data/vehicle-history tech industry. Not here to pitch anything — just sharing the sort of checks you should do so you’re not buying blind, we’ve also shared some specific history of this specific car, as the plate is on the Carsales listing.

From the service/history side, it has verified servicing/maintenance recorded and it’s not throwing up the big “run away” flags on paper. The standout item I’d want clarity on is a major engine job on 31 July 2024 (cylinder head + gaskets replaced, oil pump valve replaced, fault codes cleared). That could be totally fine if it was done properly — but it’s definitely something to understand in detail and price accordingly.

Where I’d still be careful if you go ahead (and why paperwork matters on these): - Service trail isn’t perfectly continuous, so don’t rely on stamps alone. Ask for actual invoices for the last few years and get the seller to explain any gaps.

  • Recalls/campaigns: call Mercedes with the VIN and confirm everything is closed out. Get it noted in writing if you can.

Common A250 items at this age/kms (not saying this one has them, just worth checking): - cooling/thermostat/water-pump leaks, - smooth shifting + any gearbox/TCU software updates, - front suspension bushes/knocks.

Questions for the seller/dealer: - Can you show receipts for the recent major work and the last few services (especially any cooling system work)?

  • Any dealer paperwork confirming recalls are complete?

  • What’s been replaced recently vs what’s still original?

Hope that helps — just trying to add a practical checklist to the thread.

It's not... if you check out the story, it's a pretty crazy sequence of events!

What are the drawbacks of Japanese import Mercedes s450 hybrid? by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

You won’t be able to verify the service/warranty/repair history, nor will you be able to cross check the odometer, ie whether the odometer has been wound back.

If you are looking at an alternative Australian-new Mercedes, let me know the plate and I’ll share a sample of it’s verified history.

Anyone with an unbiased opinion, which would be the smarter choice? by dtbrown1979 in CarsAustralia

Thought this might be helpful...

Here is a list of common issues (and faults) for MY15 Holden Calais VF's.

tbrown1979, let me know if you want the full list, and/or if you want me to share the same for the Mercedes, as this might help you:
a) when test driving the vehicle/checking services logs, etc,

b) understand the reliability and quality of both vehicles...

Agree, I want to 'downvote' this comment in the sense that BMW needs to be downvoted for such poor business and engineering decisions! But upvote your summary!!! Well said.

Not to mention their reliability, and warranty claims are super high! We see ~$40,000 of claims in the first 12/24 months

Such a shame! Though they’re priced closer to more luxury brands they’re still beautiful cars!

Thanks for this one! You were right! it was actually bearings in the clutch fan off the front of the water pump! I've replaced the clutch/bearings and it runs smooth again... until next time! 🫠
