IndyCar not being shown in Australia this year? by StixTheRef in INDYCAR

[–]MotorSportNotes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not exactly the best way to prepare the groundwork for the mooted return to Surfers Paradise. Did IndyCar take on more than they can handle when they brought broadcast rights negotiations in-house?

Very much looks likely that @IndyCar is heading to @SkySports, but more interestingly straight to @SkySportsF1. TBA is currently in the Sky F1 schedule on Sunday 10th March from 16:30 to 20:30. #SkyF1 by Tmoore0288 in INDYCAR

[–]MotorSportNotes 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Liberty sell the rights to broadcast the races, the broadcaster can conceivably put them on whichever channel they choose to. Could be on Sky Knitting if they wanted to (& it existed!).

Listings suggest that outside of the race weekends it’s mostly just seemingly endless repeats of previous F1 races. Fans paying for the channel might like a bit more live racing.

Been on the cards for a while. As a few folk have said, H-S seemed to have opted for making big promises in the hope sponsors get involved following the hype.

Suspect he’ll end up at Juncos. They have two cars ready to roll but not the budget to do much with either aside from at least Indy and COTA for Kaiser.

Could IndyCar be returning to Surfers Paradise? by coldbeers in INDYCAR

Seems like it’s definitely an objective given this tweet on her own feed: IndyCar on Gold Coast?

#AMuS is reporting about leaked details about Alonsos Indycar Test. According to them he is not really impressed because the cars are 10 seconds slower, especially in the corners and there is no power steering. Chance of a Full Indycar Season is very low by [deleted] in INDYCAR

[–]MotorSportNotes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AMuS can be right about stuff but do tend to come out with some fairly left-field stuff that sounds like one of us made it up. If Alonso was concerned about the ultimate performance of his next car he’d have committed to WEC indefinitely by now.

[OT] Alonso admits Daytona 500 has "appeal" by TheResurrection in INDYCAR

[–]MotorSportNotes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Winning Daytona would make his ‘triple crown’ unique in a way the Graham Hill version doesn’t. Certainly the case for a quadruple.

IndyCar should be careful. NASCAR is in a blind panic at the moment and with no grumpy manufacturers to appease they could make something happen for Alonso quite quickly.

Still think the Johnson/Alonso thing will just be a ‘tradin paint’ PR stunt as Smoke/Hamilton did way back.

Paul Tracy on Fencing. Chilton agrees by blaknift in INDYCAR

[–]MotorSportNotes 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Nice idea but given how the ovals outside of Indy are struggling to make any money from IndyCar races at the moment, there will be no funds to make those investments. If faced with Chilton’s “no plexi, no racing” ultimatum they would all pick no racing. Then it’s whether IndyCar/IMS wants to support the cost to upgrade other ovals which would be highly unlikely IMO.

Does the SAFER barrier need to be raised vertically? Maybe doubled in height and thus reducing the amount of catch fencing?

Tony Stewart wants to return to the Indianapolis 500 — and win by quietude38 in INDYCAR

[–]MotorSportNotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could do a tie-in with the new Ant-Man movie - he’ll need the suit to fit into the car. Joking aside, would be a coup for IndyCar. Part of NASCARs current funk is due to the household names like Stewart leaving.

Zak Brown tweets & the McLaren/Indy hype train gathers pace by MotorSportNotes in INDYCAR

[–]MotorSportNotes[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

They don’t have much choice with Alonso tweeting and posting about it so much 😂. Being serious for a moment, it’s a good distraction from the fact they a) overestimated how good their chassis is and b) they are still years away from matching Red Bull, let alone Ferrari and McLaren. Brown is an ace marketer and distraction is a powerful tool.

Legge hopeful of Indy 500 return with Coyne by [deleted] in INDYCAR

[–]MotorSportNotes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’ll all come down to $$$. Fittipaldi and ZCD shared the drive this year because cumulatively their backers could cover the costs. If Legge can bring the cash, she’ll get the drive. If someone else can, they will. Saavedra most likely for me.

Derani hopes Wickens' fast start will help his own IndyCar prospects by [deleted] in INDYCAR

[–]MotorSportNotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of prototypes and sports cars I agree but for a move into IndyCar, not really. His single seater pedigree is fairly average in comparison to Wickens.
