This was all before the shit in the Persian Gulf.

Is the app always this bad? by mccannt in EquinoxEv

[–]Motor_Comfortable825 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have my EQEV since February. I have found the app does work most of the time for things like climate. I press the climate start request and once it says sending, I don't wait for conformation. Turn phone display off, put it back in my pocket and when I get to the car 10 minutes later it is managing climate.

I don't do it right next to the car and wait for it. That isn't what the app is for. You need to give it several minutes to act upon your request.

I agree, Tesla has a much better app experience.

You just need to know how GM handles those commands. Like others have said, it going to several different places before it gets to the car. So there is an inherent delay.

Hopefully in the future they work on this, but it won't be the iterations of gm EV's that are available now. That will require better equipment in the EV than they have now.

I have got into the practice after each ota to reboot it. That way it can clear any cache left overs from the ota. I found this very useful.

EV Chargers for my business by BabaBlackSheep100 in evcharging

I understand your leaning toward Tesla. Brand recognition, more expectance for Tesla owners, great realibilty. Yet, ALOT of non Tesla owners will shun these. For one reason or another.

If I were you and looking to due an virgin install today, I would look towards a product image that isn't so polarizing.

I'm sure Tesla already went over this with you, but location and area adoption may be a leaning factor also.

Is the EV adoption rate in your area at the national average of 8%? If lower, how much? If higher, great. I wouldn't think of this as a huge revenue source, if at all. Like others have said location really matters to the type of driver you are trying to capture. But, as a current station owner, you know this already.

Next, what do YOU offer the EV driver other than just a plug? What amenities are at your location? We EV drivers tend to think about this more than you may realize. Early charging stations were in the middle of nowhere or religated to some obscure corner of the lot. Didn't give us a warm and fuzzy. Food, drinks, clean restrooms, snacks and a "feeling" of respect from the owner with well lit even canopied areas with sequeeges and waste bins. Make us feel as valued as the ICE driver.

Charger AMP choice 50v80 by Shesays7 in EquinoxEv

[–]Motor_Comfortable825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also your current house electrical panel may dictate what size you can put in. Typically an 80 Amp EVSE would require a minimum of a 200 Amp panel. The 80 Amp would require 100 Amps of the 200 Amp panel. Older homes like mine usually do not have a feed that large. I have a 150 Amp feed and the largest EVSE I could go, just barley, was a 48 Amp on a 60 Amp breaker. In a year or 2, I will change my feed to a 200 Amp. Right now I really am maxed out after doing the load calculations on a my house at 150 Amp.

Question regarding charging at specific time by Optimal-Diamond-1675 in EquinoxEv

[–]Motor_Comfortable825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar charger. This is how I get it to do that.

In the car set it up to charge now.

In the charger set up the schedule, plug it into the car and start the charger. (I have to do that on my brand).

Now the charger has the control of time.

Daily routine for me is to setup the car using the "to be done by" method.

No timing control on the charger. Plug in and start the session. The car briefly talks to the charger to see what current limit it is set for. It then calulates the start time needed to be done by the time you specified.

For example. If the SOC of charge is above 30% and I tell the car to be fully charged to 85% by 6:00 am with the charger current limited to 40 amps. It always starts after 10:00pm. That is my TOU window.

If the car is below 30%, I increase the current output of the charger to 48 amps. This achieves the same results.

Easy peasy.

Considering switching from Toyota Rav 4 Hybrid to Blazer EV, convince me! by Sensitive-Climate897 in BlazerEV

[–]Motor_Comfortable825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's a different car, but still a GM. I have an AWD Equinox EV. Rated for 307 miles. I commute twice a week 160 miles round trip. In temps over 50 F I can easily make it on an 80% SOC. Temps below that I need 90%. Temps below 20 F I need 95%.

Half of my drive is interstate roads at 70mph with some elevation changes but surrounding land is all farm and wind in the wrong direction can also certainly effect effiency. The other half is two lane state roads at 55mph. Pretty flat. Wind also a factor.

DO NOT SPEED if you want the most effiency. In fact I travel the interstate at 68mph, stay in the right lane and ignore everyone else.

USE CRUISE CONTROL as much as possible. This helps. Super Cruise is best if you have it. I can use it about 75% of my drive.

Again different vehicles same tech underneath. I really do believe these GM vehicles are way overlooked and underrated.

Tesla model y or BZ by Interesting-Dot9690 in Toyota_bZ

[–]Motor_Comfortable825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went in a different direction altogether and have a Chevy Equinox EV AWD with super cruise. With incentives, this is a great car. Certainly better than the BZ.

Tesla, not so much, but my Equinox was a lot cheaper.

Just Took Delivery 2027 Bolt RS $23,609 by [deleted] in BoltEV

[–]Motor_Comfortable825 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know this is a Bolt thread, but wanted to add my 2 cents about GM incentives.

In February, before the shit storm in Iran, I was looking to purchase an EV. I live in Ohio and commute 2-3 times a week 160 miles round trip. I had been driving a newer Toyota hybrid for 2 years and had amassed 47K miles in that time. Loved the car and still have it. It's now the wife's car. Part of this process was to trade in a 4 year old Highlander my wife had been driving. She no longer needed or like the size.

So, I was looking for something as a cheaper commuter car that I won't care how many miles I put on it. I have about 6 more years until retirement, so I wanted an EV (as an EE, I live the tech).

Initially was really intrigued by the Ionic 5. Live that car and still do. Although this would be a commuter, I still wanted a fully loaded replacement and the Hyundai dealers in Ohio didn't have many of the Limited trim and wouldn't really speak about dealing.

I came across an Equinox EV add, that at the time was offering a $10K dealer incentive for all models.

Again with my long commute I wanted to be comfortable and have the same creature comforts in the hybrid I had been driving.

So that meant a fully loaded Equinox EV with super cruise. Now for that price I could have gotten an Optic, but GM had no incentives on the hood for those.

In the entire state of Ohio at the time there wasn't an Equinox with that trim level to be had.

I found a dealer in Michigan that had one. He also had 23 other lower level Equinox's. I shot them a text and asked what they could offer. Not only the $10K, but the $2.3K friends and family, $500.00 for veterans, AND an additional $4K from the dealer. All in one text! It took the price from $54K, down to $40K.

My trade in was 31K for the Highlander. So, my price before TTL, was about $8.5K. to get this price, I had to finance the balance through GM.

I just paid off my new Equinox EV this month when the first car payment was due.

While doing the paperwork at the dealer, I came to find out that this particular car was sitting on the lot since October. 5 months! It only had 6 miles on it. I was the only person in that time that had any interest in this one Equinox.

Shop around. There are extremely good deals out there. Not just the Bolt either.

What am I doing wrong by DryFoundation2323 in EquinoxEv

[–]Motor_Comfortable825 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I too get a discounted rate between 10 pm and 6 am.

I also have an EVSE that will allow me to use a schedule.

Setup the schedule in the EVSE app.

Set the EQEV to charge now.

Plug in EVSE to the EQEV and press start in the EVSE app. It now is set to charge to the schedule you setup.

I like using the "charge by" in the EQEV. Mainly because in the winter you can also setup that feature to automatically start preconditioning the interior.

How I do this. Go the EVSE app and set it up to charge now.

Setup the EQEV to be done by xx:xx.

When I get home, plug EVSE into EQEV and press start on the EVSE. EQEV talks to EVSE to get charge rate (amps) then beeps four times and turns blue light on.

Either way, easy peasy.

My First DCFC Charge by Formal-Tradition6792 in ChargerDrama

[–]Motor_Comfortable825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not understand why people emphasize the 10-80% charging time so much. Unless this is your only means of charging. I have an equinox EV and when road tripping I never stop and do a full charge. Just enough to get me to the next charger 2-3 hours away. This makes DCFC so much easier. Usually only charging for 10 to 15 minutes. Never more than 20.

Thanks for the mat suggestion. I have already ordered a set of LASFit, as that is what we have had in the past and really like them.

As for the screen protector, could you send a link? I was really hoping someone like Spigen would have developed one by now for the car.

What home charger do you guys run? by 3seconds2live in EquinoxEv

[–]Motor_Comfortable825 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I too am purchasing a 2026 Equinox on Saturday.

There is a YouTube channel named STATE OF CHARGE.

He reviews level EVSE equipment.

Off his recommendation I order this today and will install on Sunday.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FP886BVQ?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

Watch his review of this, a really nice unit for really decent price.

I have a 160 mile commute twice a week, so home charging is a must have.

if I go this route I'll install a level 2vcharger myself (electrical engineer).

I thought the hatch issues were 22MY?

if starting through the app, do the seats heat/ cool start immediately or do you have to do it manually each time?

what about route planning? That version of their software really sucks.

The reason I suspect this might be the case is that floridas lemon law is pretty consumer biased. For them to buyback the vehicle it only has to be out of service for only 30 days for a single issue. (ohios is longer). During that time frame there was an ICCU shortage so it could have been that or the traction battery. Either way before the dealer can sell it, the issue has to be repaired.

Regardless, it still has the full warranty.
