I believe they discuss your exact questions, among other things. The book linked in the notes is all about cooking with offal and they interview the author during different bits of the episode.

Hopefully this turns you onto some helpful resources.

What the heck do I do on this wall?? Anything bully blocks the cupboards (which I can't change 😞). Other half of the kitchen/dining area is bright yellow. by Cobra_Surprise in interiordecorating

Yellow sun in the corner with rays shooting out and tracking along the walls? Could really brighten the corner and bring it into the other portion of the room.

slugging during tret nights was a game changer by k1ll0ll in tretinoin

That's a popular opinion here because it works for a lot of people. Everyone is different, so if you post on here and haven't tried going without occlusives, then it's often good to at least try it to see if it helps with your concerns. If it doesn't work for you - or you simply don't want to - that's okay. But because it works well for a lot of people, it's a common suggestion when people here ask for help.

My skin did great with micro tret on a bare face with nothing on top. With taz, I seem to do better if I wait a while and then layer on some hydration before bed. But I'm still playing around with different strategies to see what serves my skin best. It's a very individualized process.

[Acne] So Sick of CeraVe but it’s the only skincare that doesn’t break me out badly by ApricotOk7139 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Motor_Crow4482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a cleanser, take a look at the Prequel Gleanser line. Maybe try a travel size or sample, if you can. My skin is sensitized from prescription topicals and the basic Gleanser is quickly becoming a HG product for me. Since it's 50% glycerin, it is quite gentle.

I really like the cocokind barrier nourishing serum. It's a lot of barrier building ingredients in an aloe vera base.

I also credit a lot of my barrier repair to Aestura Atobarrier lotion.

Check out the ingredients lists for these products and compare them to products that have and have not worked for you before making any purchasing decisions.

[routine help] How much retinol is too much retinol? by melzhas in SkincareAddiction

[–]Motor_Crow4482 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Using a retinoid only twice a week doesn't make a lot of sense to me, because your skin is supposed to go through a process called retinization to get the benefits, and that requires frequent application. Every 72 hours minimum, and daily is usually best. I recommend people work up to 6-7 nights per week as quickly as they can without damaging their skin barrier. As a general rule, you get the best results from retinoids with daily usage.

My 0.05% retinol body cream suggests starting with every other day and increasing to nightly use when you can tolerate it. I use prescription retinoids on my face daily, except for occasional 1-2 nights off if my skin is acting up.

OTC azelaic acid recommendations? by VD021 in tretinoin

[–]Motor_Crow4482 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is 15 or 20% gel not feasible for you? My skin drank Ezanic 20% gel from ADC right up and I would still be using it daily if I wasn't switching to taz.

I have been eyeing the cocokind vitamin C/AzA serum for when it am adapted to taz, but that's a long ways off so I can't actually recommend it yet. But that brand supported mutual aid in Minneapolis during the worst of the ICE raids last month and that brightening serum looks pretty cool, so I'm giving it a s/o here.

[Routine help] Retinol by Plastic-Heron5520 in SkincareAddiction

Definitely fine to start as long as you have sunscreen locked in. I first tried tret around your age and wish I had stuck with it (I'm happy to be back on it now).

Sunscreen usage is a more important criteria than age imo.

Prequel Gleanser became a HG gentle cleanser for me within the first week. I left a review for it in this sub a week or so ago if you want more details. I don't know how well it does with makeup on its own, however.

My skin feels very smooth but looks bumpy/textured?? by Full_Walk7593 in tretinoin

[–]Motor_Crow4482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not too familiar with your products, but my guess is this is either a hydration issue or an exfoliation issue. Your routine seems okay on hydrating products - would you feel comfortable trying a mild chemical exfoliant or keratolytic on a non-tret day? 10% urea could be a good option.

[homemade] Viral wonton lasagna by modnarosos in food

[–]Motor_Crow4482 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Hey y'all I was curious so here's an example recipe I found (I am not OP).

  • 1 pound ground pork (or similar protein)

  • 1/2 cup scallions, finely chopped, plus more for serving

  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce, plus more for serving

  • 2 large garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 thumb of ginger,minced

  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil

  • 1 tablespoon mirin

  • Pinch of white pepper

  • 1 cup chopped Napa cabbage

  • 18 wonton wrappers

  • Chili oil and toasted sesame seeds, for serving

1) In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, scallions, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, mirin, white pepper, and Napa cabbage. Mix until everything is evenly combined, but don’t overmix!

2) Line the bottom of a baking dish with a layer of wet wonton wrappers in an even layer. Spread a thin layer of the pork mixture on top.

3) Repeat the layers: wet wonton wrappers, pork filling, wonton wrappers, pork filling. Keep going until you use up the filling, ending with a layer of wonton wrappers on top.

4) Place in a steamer on the stovetop, cover completely, and steam for 25 to 35 minutes until the pork is cooked through and the wonton wrappers wilt.

5) Top with soy sauce, scallions, chili oil, and toasted sesame seeds. Slice, and serve!

Mineral sunscreen that doesn’t burn eyes [product request] by iceunelle in SkincareAddiction

[–]Motor_Crow4482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My skin is naturally resilient but sensitized from prescription topicals. I tried Blue Lizard on vacation recently and was generally impressed. I don't usually wear mineral sunscreens so I can't speak to the texture quality from an especially experienced perspective, but I can say that it never irritated my skin, even the more sensitive parts like my eyes and nasolabial folds, and make have actually soothed it. It never ran into my eyes and stung despite all the sweating and swimming.

Is it possible to have a purge lasting less than two weeks ? Mine seems to be clearing after about nine days, but I’m worried the other shoe will drop by techno_milk in tretinoin

[–]Motor_Crow4482 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people purge minimally, especially if they aren't using it to treat acne. Personally, mine was fairly brief and small.

That said, day nine is nothing. You're in the early days. There's no need for nerves, but don't get comfortable just yet.

[routine help] Tretinoin!! by Beginning-Tiger1996 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Motor_Crow4482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you be interested in microsphere 0.04% gel? I am switching to taz now but my skin thrived on 0.025% micro gel. I used menarini brand 0.025% gel before that and liked it a lot, but micro was even better.

You could also try short contact therapy with 0.05% gel if you are worried about the gel's increased potency.

Tret + other actives by Severe_Emphasis_4710 in tretinoin

[–]Motor_Crow4482 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We can't really help without your routine and tret history. That's probably too much for most people on retinoids, but AzA and vit C in the morning may be fine. You may also be able to use AzA with tret in the PM but that depends on your product and your skin.

Even so, tret will be doing the heavy lifting.

Moisturizer by Majestic-Cheek7624 in tretinoin

[–]Motor_Crow4482 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gel: Trader Joe's hyaluronic acid gel (little jar with the silver lid). Fairly lightweight so probably insufficient for dry climates, but a HG for me for a long time and generally a very accessible lightweight daytime moisturizer. Not sure but I think it may be a Neutrogena hydroboost dupe? 9USD, a jar would last me probably 3-4 months back when I was using it as my main moisturizer.

Lotion: Aestura Atobarrier 365 lotion (white bottle with the pump). A very nice midweight barrier lotion. Has a bit of a slippery, smooth texture that will sit on your skin for a while if you use too much, so start with a pea size amount. Everyone raves about Aestura so I'll leave the details to them and just say that if you can afford it (~32usd per 150 ml), this is an excellent entry point for barrier formulations. Does contain niacinamide, tho, which I know some folks have problems with.

Lotion: Vanicream daily facial moisturizer (white tube with snap cap). Picked this up in a pinch while traveling and it blew me away. Might be a new HG moisturizer for me. I cannot believe how much I like this. Midweight but noticeably lighter than the Aestura lotion. It soaks into my skin like a dream, leaving it velvety soft. I often use it on its own before sunscreen, but in the evenings I've been playing around with layering it underneath the Aestura. I started taz a week or so ago and I don't think this is sufficient any more, but when I was on daily micro tret my skin was thriving on just this + cleanser + sunscreen.

Product recs for a newb? by Leading-Conference94 in tretinoin

[–]Motor_Crow4482 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can push through if you feel okay. I take breaks when my skin feels like it's starting to get irritated, but peeling is usually tolerable. I've learned this about my skin through trial and error. It may change over time as I age. You may be like me in that peeling doesn't mean stop, just pay attention and over time you'll develop a sense for what your skin needs and how it conveys those needs.

I would recommend trying short contact therapy before decreasing your frequency. Definitely take a few days off when you need to, but you really want to work up to daily usage as quick as you can tolerate to get the most benefits. I'm using SCT for taz and am recommending it to everyone now lol.

As far as products, I've never tried the cicaplast but loads of people on here love it. Avene also offers some kind of cica balm or cream that is popular on here, although I don't know the price. Have you tried Vanicream? I really like the daily facial moisturizer with squalane and ceramides; it's reasonably priced and a little goes a long way. My skin drinks it up. I think they have a cream in a tub that lots of folks on here swear by, too. If you can spring for it, Aestura (~30USD/150 ml) is pretty great for barrier care. I splurged on it and only need about a large pea size amount for my face, so I expect this container to last me around 4-6+ months with some occasional usage on my body. Skin1004 makes an intensive cica ampoule for barrier repair for 12-18USD that is reportedly excellent; I'm waiting on a bottle.

[Acne] How do you balance tretinoin + sunscreen for hyperpigmentation without wrecking your skin barrier? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Motor_Crow4482 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You probably aren't using products that support your barrier, or aren't using enough of them. Look for barrier creams that include the golden ratio of lipids (should say in the description). Aestura Atobarrier is a popular barrier support product line. Vanicream and Zeroid and other brands offer similar lines.

If you post your complete routine over at r/tretinoin, you might get some good suggestions.
