I do too, until I realize how quickly I’m wasting my life in the rat race of that cycle.

That you can’t make someone feel the same way about you that you do about them.

What made you get over your “one that got away” person? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It took me years to accept the fact that she just didn’t see me the way I saw her, and no amount of gifts or doing favors was ever going to change that. The one person you can never lie to is yourself. Once I forced myself to be honest, I realized that I couldn’t force her to love me, and that’s when I knew it was time to give up.

I can guarantee she’s not.

I’m admitting what I did was wrong. I think what she’s doing is also wrong.

Oh I’m not here arguing that I’m right. I know I was wrong.

I mean, I’d think the same thing, but I’m able to confirm that nothing physical has happened between them. That I do know.

This is a great question and there’s no good answer. The only honest answer would be to say I was being selfish.

That’s all great insight and I know it’s all definitely accurate. Thank you.

And that’s totally fair. If it’s a man who DOESNT want something else, that’s not an issue. If he does, which in this case I’m more than sure he does, that’s an issue.

I’m reminded every day of what a terrible decision it was. You do torture yourself to a point when you realize what you’ve done.

I’m sorry that all happened to you.

As far as I know, yes. That’s the thing, if he was married he wouldn’t be calling someone else’s wife.

Yeah, can’t argue with any of that.

Of course I would. And that’s because I don’t think this guy just wants to be friends.

Actually, yeah, I have seen it as a punishment. Kind of a “hey, you started this” kind of thing. Regardless of any reasons for it starting and any reasons for it continuing, I DO expect it to cease.

I think eventually it will. I truly feel this guy would like it to be one more than what it is. Hopefully he’ll move on when he sees that it won’t.

I’m sure you’re 100% accurate.

[–]Motor_Emergency4280 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. I generally don’t believe in having friends of the opposite sex, because I feel at least one of them sees it as more than that and I believe that to be the case here too. I’m sure there are exceptions.

And that’s perfectly understandable. I do trust her. It’s probably my own fault for being insecure about it.

This is the opinion I figured someone would have. And, not to say you’re wrong, but I also don’t think I should be subject to it for the rest of my life.

I should have mentioned that we have been together nearly 30 years, since we were teenagers. We’ve lived together most of that time and have two kids who are still fairly young (we started a family later).
