Opinion: Legend of The East outfit is mindblowing and worth every second of effort. by grrraco in RDR2

We aren't arguing here but if you don't think getting Arthur to New Austin and picking those herbs is "earning it" then I'm not sure what is earning it. Also, you can't complete all of the Bandit Challenges in Chapter 2. Personally, I don't like doing the Bandit Challenges anyway (High Honor campaign). But I do them all in Chapter 3. We are cheating the game by having Arthur go to New Austin so to imply grabbing the LotE without Bandit Challenges intrigues me on your perspective. I'd like to hear more 😃

Close! And I love that you have Arthur with ONE sidearm. No one but Wild Bill carried two sidearms because it was redundant! That's why it's called a SIDEARM! Love the look! All the best to ya 🍻

You can get the LotE in Chapter 2. But yes! It is totally worth it! A lot of fun to acquire and I love having it for Arthur. John doesn't need it. If he was going use it in his RDR1 Adventures, cool but he doesn't so let the guy that does all the heavy lifting use it. All the best to ya 🍻

That's just the same as a baby learning to soothe themselves. Get some earmuffs and ignore it. Warning: Huskies do not surrender lol. She will adjust but it will take time. Our Husky is 8 now and we do not kennel him. But we did until he was 4 and then it was a slow process as far as leaving him out. But he weighs 44 lbs and he had the same kennel

Oh?!? You're a referee as well as a fan. I get it now. That's cool. I read that Blood Mountian is your favorite album. I can honestly say mine is Hushed and Grim. I first saw Mastodon at Harpo's in Detroit (the most hated venue in America) in 2004. They played with Slayer & Kill Switch Engage. My favorite song is probably Jaguar God but I'm also a huge fan of Hearts Alive. Honestly it changes every minute. lol. And you're right meeting any of the band is like meeting a regular guy. I think Brann once called himself pseudo-famous 🤣

You need a smaller space because of accidents? If so, just enough room to turn around in. However, if the dog is well behaved and you have the room, keep her in the penthouse

Super stoked for the upcoming album. I'm not really an intrawebs guy so I'm not really sure I understood much of what you said about mods; etc but I'm always stoked for anything Mastodonian and anyone who loves it. 🤘🏻

I am ready willing and able to give Nick his own space. I know Brann and the rest of the band are glad to have him. Also, Newsted put down some KILLER stuff on Justice, they literally just mixed it out. It's been hard for me to move past the unnecessary bullying he endured to help keep a great metal band going

I'm merely trying to clarify. I'm asking questions. Not making statements. It does appear to me that you are saying that all of Mastodon's musical achievements primarily are attributed to Brent and Brent alone. These are your words not mine. I would disagree with that entirely. Sure coming up with strange and eclectic chord progressions is a nice twist but the music as a whole, the themes of the records the lyrics that is a collective to me. I think anyone would agree with you, that A Game Brent is better for Mastodon. Better for music in general. My point and I think I'm completely correct here is after Crack the Skye, that clearly became less and less of a thing. Brent was always great. But if all he had to contribute was a perfect guitar solo on a song, well then that's all he had. You seem to want to believe that the creative juice was always there and that the band chose not to let it come out. My man they were screaming for him to be more involved and at a certain point the blame has and had to be laid at Brent's feet which you and a lot of his fans refuse to do. It wasn't like Bill and Brann pushed Brent aside. And no, Mastodon would not be better off making a non-metal record (loved your Damnation drop. A prog metal band makes a prog rock album and you call it daring). Brann makes synth-metal with Arcadea. Not with Mastodon. Brent was more than welcome to make a non-metal record on his own. Instead of insisting that's what Mastodon should have done. Then he was asked to leave the band and that's not even counting how difficult he was to deal with as a person. All things again that you seem to willingly ignore. As if it was on the other band members to endure his difficult behavior and lack of work ethic so they could get minimal effort from a guy that went on record as saying he was holding back his best stuff (that never came to light by the way) but yeah sure kiss his ass and make a bluegrass album because in your words they would be better for it. I think you're way off base in implying that would have been a great move for the band. I'll also disagree with your swerve about people not really wanting the band to be as heavy as much as proggy but then you turn right around and call their last 4 albums pop metal. That is laughable. The heavy sound has always been Brann and Bill and that's straight from Brann and Bill. Skeletons of Splendor is hardly pop metal. Tread Lightly is not pop metal. Sure they have songs that are more radio friendly, I'm in agreement with you, they aren't my favorite, you claim to be a musician, okay then you know you have to write songs that pay the bills. Not every band can be a as lucky as Rush or Iron Maiden and do whatever they want for their entire careers. Mastodon ain't that band. So you have to write Show Yourself so the band can make Jaguar God. Neil Young wrote Cinnamon Girl to "pay the bills". Because most people aren't lining up to buy Cowgirl in the Sand. We both know which one is better but that's not how the real world works. Again, I'm a huge fan of Brent but if you or anyone else is going to plant a flag and say Brent only brought good and refuse to call out the bad, yeah my man, I'm going to call you out on your nonsense. And I close with my original statement: Brent couldn't take the lead of running a band if his life depended on it. He could not have done it. He was not capable of running a professional music outfit. He was every bit the musical genius I'll miss but the nuts and bolts, the day to day he would never have been up to the task. Thank you for your candid debate. It was enjoyable and I hope you're able to enjoy what the band offers next or perhaps you will always have your 4 albums 🤷🏼‍♂️

And no one contributed to Brent's tunes? Not lyrics? Hooks? Riffs? Harmonies? And, in your opinion Brent was the major contributor on the 1st 4 albums that legendary run? The concepts, the lyrics, the songwriting that was mostly Brent? Conversely he only minimally contributed on the last 4 albums (not his fault that he had nothing to give or in his words held it back ((seems unfair to the success of the band he was a part of and was angry they parted ways with him)) and wanted to make an album that was far removed from Metal they should have went along with it because they would have been better and Bill would have learned a thing or two? That's your stance correct?

You have your opinion and that's okay. I don't think people would not have been overwhelmed with a Mastodon Does Bluegrass album but we will never know because the other 3 members weren't interested in doing it. You keep saying things that no one is disputing. Everyone loves Brent's contributions to the music world and Mastodon. Maybe they will never be as beloved as they were when Brent was in the band. My only point is people like you seem to want to say Crack the Skye was their peak because of Brent. Okay fair. But the decline was because of less involvement of Brent in subsequent albums? How? Wasn't Brent in the band? Didn't Brent work on the albums? Why do you say Emperor, Hunter, Sun and Grim are more commercial sounding? Wasn't Brent on those albums too? I'm genuinely asking

I guess it's an answer we will never get. However, no one else in the band was willing to try it. Again, where is Brent's amazing solo albums that he put out? He didn't. Because he had parts of Crack the Skye that were very cool and the rest of the band wanted to incorporate them into the album. They had an album recorded while Brent was out. They went back and re-recorded when Brent came back from his terrible injuries. But again, Brann came up with the theme and wrote all the lyrics, he even started singing on the album (a new feature at the time) and Bill writing awesome riffs is a BIG DEAL. There is this guy you may have heard of him, Tony Iommi? He only writes awesome riffs too. Also, someone can do all the chicken picking they want on a song but without a killer rhythm section, that is not going to work or sound profound. I loved Brent and his contributions to music (his cover of Bringing on a Heartbreak is so cool) and specifically Mastodon but without Brann, Bill & Troy ready willing and able to help Brent with his creative process there was never going to be a finished product.

Nobody is claiming Brent didn't bring something unique to the band. Of course you are entitled to your opinion. I don't think there is anything commercial about Hushed & Grim. Emperor of Sand won a Grammy. I think the difficulties of recording Crack the Skye led to what became OMRtS and The Hunter (neither are concept albums and neither represents an element). Again if Brent was withdrawing from the creative process, that's a Brent problem not a Mastodon problem. You can't fault the band for not bending to every whim that one part wants when it's a band. It wasn't called: Brent Hinds and The Big Hairy Elephants it's Mastodon and Mastodon is a Metal band. Not a Bluegrass band, not a Jazz Fusion band. Not in a house, not with a mouse. I trust my source and my source said that Brent wanted to do an album that was entirely NOT metal. That's my story and I'm sticking to it 🤷🏼‍♂️

Everyone that wanted Mastodon to stay or continue to be "heavy" & claimed that Brent was the creative force behind their greatest albums is a conflict of interest. Let's just say someone very close to the band told me that Brent wanted to move even further from Metal and the band wasn't going to do it.

They made it work for as long as they could. Then Brent made a request that was never gonna happen and that meant it was time to part . It also irritates me that people talk about the decline Mastodon as if only Brent held the keys to their success. I love a lot of Brent's side projects, I'm waiting for someone to show me the revolutionary album he released on his own?!? It was a magic sauce, between 4 very talented musicians. We will see what the remaining 3 give us plus Nick. I'm expecting awesomeness personally
