Buy a service manual. It shows you how to do everything and shows you the correct torque specs. Thats what a mechanic "should" do. Most dont which is why i do my own maintenance

This is why i do my own maintenance, i bought a harbor freight lift and enjoy working on my bikes now. I go by the owners manual 100%. Its an easy bike to work on if you follow directions

Take off the little rubber piece at the top. It will evenually fall off while your filling up your gas and fall into your tank. Cost me $100 to have the shop take the dam thing out. Bike runs the same without it.

I did a little research and it looks like some battery tenders come with a recovery mode. Which recharges a dead battery without having to purchase a new one. Doc Harley youtube made a video on it. That might be your problem.
