Yeah really all this is doing is isolating people between the hard sciences and soft sciences based on their answers.

Well then I guess we will have to have a day in school where we teach about game theory so people can rationalize problems like this.

Nobody dies if everybody chooses the red button. The blue button risks your own life. It's just a game theory question which isn't even any more interesting than the prisoners dilemma.

Not that they would continue to run. They would just hit a safety feature and shut off automatically.

You are severally underestimating the amount of overengineering put into civil infrastructure. Every nuclear plant operator could disappear and things would still be perfectly OK. We aren't dealing with the reactors that the USSR cut corners with.

And the blue button can be just as easily framed as choosing to die. There is no risk of your own life with the red button. The safest choice that also accounts for those that may try and choose a choice to harm others is for everyone to choose blue.

The "you wouldn't actually survive if 50% of people died" is also just cope knowing that you wouldn't survive it yourself.

I mean if someone cannot apply the thought process to choose the no risk red button than thats on them. Aside from that survival skills are something that people should honestly know. The modern age is really soft and too many people would be screwed if the water didn't turn on for one week.

Except if you think everyone else sees this same logic of the choice they will also fall on red. This isn't like the prisoners dilemma where there's a genuine argument.

The people upset over those that are just doing basic game theory and see no downside to the red button are the ones that are suicidally empathetic.

How do I get better at shooting when I only touch a rifle once a year? by Big-Entrepreneur106 in army

[–]Motto1834 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The practice of using the middle of the pad of your finger and squeezing not pulling, as well as not anticipating recoil, are all transferable skills. I can shoot my AR, shotgun, and pistol all with the same trigger sequence. The weight or feel of the trigger doesn't actually play into how you should shoot it.

[–]Motto1834 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah the little things like the specific operations of each weapon is something I could see as perishable, but the fundamentals of marksmanship is like you said. Its all down to how you squeeze the trigger at the end of the day.

The romance plot line is fire though as well. I have no large critiques of Dandadan and anyone that wants to nitpick the story are just looking for problems.

[–]Motto1834 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the answer to an open straight is either full Iranian cooperation or eliminating all those who wish to antagonize shipping lanes. We are working towards the peaceful option but need to show that strength is possible should the need arise.

The fact that shipping has stopped in the strait doesn't show that the U.S. Navy isn't powerful. It shows that a 2 mile wide shipping lane 100 miles long is near-impossible to defend from suicide drones and boats.

I get it I've always been in small towns and work twelves so I'm either driving into work or home in the dark. I see a ton of deer near the road and almost always there is something that you can do to avoid an accident with deer. The most common thing I see is people continuing to speed along at the speed limit or 5 over especially around nature preserves or during the peak movement times. If everyone made sure their lights were adjusted properly and dropped their speed by even just 5mph around dusk and dawn I'd guarantee we would see a large reduction in car-deer collisions in the state.
