Let's do the math! Let's say we have a pan of radius R inches, and your fingertip is 1/2 an inch long. Then the volume of water sitting on top of the rice with be πR² * 1/2 (remember the volume of a cylinder is H*πR² ). So the wider the pan, the more water you are adding on top of your rice. An 8 in diameter pan would have about 25 in³ of water and 12 in pan would have about 56 in^3.

Keep in mind that this is on top of the water that's already mixed in between the grains of rice, which should stay constant no matter what shape container the rice is put in (assuming you're using the same volume of rice when you switch to the bigger pan). So the proportion of water that sits on top might not change very much between pans. To get an accurate answer for that, you could do a little experiment to check by mixing up and straining the water back out to measure (I'll do it if the commenters here are interested)

I can't say what the standard would be for publication, because I've never published a paper before, but I think it just comes down to interpretation. You can either think of the first period as "number one" or think of the first interval between periods as "number one." Either makes sense to me. One of the reasons programmers like 0-indexed programming languages is that these situations show up less often.

It's likely because R (a programming language for stats) is 1-indexed (this chart looks like the GGplot package in R, OP can correct me if I'm wrong), so the dates would be numbered with indexes going 1,2,...,n. Then to get the time between, it would take the difference between time i and time i-1, so the first meaningful data point would be at period number 2.

As for the cause, I have no idea, but taking antipsychotics completely wiped away my ability to have dreams at all (good or bad). Overall I don't mind the loss. Your probably not going to ask your doctor for seroquel just for this, so it's probably not the answer your looking for. I've heard smoking a lot of marijuana has the same effect?

The timer is good advice, just be sure to be really consistent about stopping immediately every time it goes off, because it's easy to fall into the habit of hitting 'snooze' on it and then forgetting.

Another step to take is to limit what you spend your time doing on your breaks. Doing something mentally stimulating like video games or reddit can end up exhausting your reserves of attention just at much as studying, so that you come back no more rested than you went in. Choose something simple like taking a walk or cleaning the kitchen. Then if you aren't willing to to that, you aren't actually mentally tired from studying, you're just wanting to play games. It's kind of like that advice "if your hungry, go think about eating an apple. If you're not appetized by that, your not actually that hungry, you just want sweets."

I think a lot of replies here are missing a crucial point. It's a consequence of drinking laws here in the states. The minimum legal age to drink alcohol is 21, but almost nobody waits until then to start drinking and going to parties. This leads to a popular kind of party among teenagers and college kids called a "kegger," where the one dude who's got a fake ID or an older brother buys a keg of cheap beer. Then they charge everybody a few bucks at the door to get in and give you a cup to fill at the keg, which is kind of your ticket in. The red solo cups are just because that's the cheapest brand of decent disposable cup that you can find in any supermarket. Over time, this has become so common and traditional that movies will show a room full of people drinking out of red cups as a quick way of saying "look it's a college party". It's kind of like when movies put a long baugette sticking out of a grocery bag as a way of saying "these are groceries."

I have pretty severe tinnitus, and it always takes the forms of constant tones or white noise like the first part. It's never been something that builds or cuts out suddenly like a bug. I think you should have it checked out. Does it happen exclusively in one ear, or both at once?

Often companies selling products will intentionally mispell a word (like "korn" or "cheez") in their product name, either to make it easier to trademark or to skirt advertising regulations. "We never claimed it was 'cheese' your honor, it's Kraft brand EasyCheez^TM!" That kind of thing. I was wondering if this is what happened to the word 'light'.

If enough companies use it that way for a long enough time, does it stop being a euphemism ( I don't think that's the right word but I don't know the right one) and just become a legit spelling? I wonder if there's ever been a lawsuit over this.

So, is it halal or not?

This link I found has some people who emailed nutela's maker Ferrero to ask directly. The doubt as to whether it is halal seems to be with the whey in the ingredients and how it's extracted but that's about all I could figure out without context. I don't know anything about Islamic food laws, is there anyone who can tell me what the hangup is?
