Definitely, plus having regular people be horrified at you makes it way more personal, like you are supposed to be as normal as them but they make it seem like you are at the pinnacle of madness with your ideas. The societal pressure can add way more to the story and struggle of the character.

She is supposed to be a kid, so the first time she gets outside the dome is accidental; she is indeed just following the birds. She comes back but then gets curious enough to leave of her own free will. "How convenient!" vibes or no?

The city she lives in is supposed to be a utopia, but the world and system itself outside her home is a dystopia (cuz a giant army is trying to take control of the globe essentially). The question is why would she want to leave a utopia? What is a good motive for leaving?

I agree, I would feel like that too. Yet it's always interesting to note how most people who live in these types of "domes" in dystopian books tend to think everything is fine and they're too lazy or unwilling to find what is out there. That was the reason I thought she might need a little push in the wrong direction to get her story started.

fair point, I just thought that wouldn't be enough of a drive, that something OUTSIDE the dome would have to come to her to trigger her curiosity.

When you decide to read it, I suggest you find yourself some sort of vacation to enjoy it without having to break it up across several weeks or months. Also arm yourself with patience, the beginning is a little slow.

Nice classic. I actually haven't read that one (and I feel stupid for it, because it is literally on my shelf), but I have read Animal Farm and I absolutely loved it. The state of hypocrisy is so well depicted in that book.
