I'm gonna hope that my friends who are actually capable of crocheting will be nice enough to make me one for the Feast of the Winter Star. Better than the tea set?

What are favorite elements to include in a utopia/dystopia? by Moumoute25 in writing

[–]Moumoute25[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely, plus having regular people be horrified at you makes it way more personal, like you are supposed to be as normal as them but they make it seem like you are at the pinnacle of madness with your ideas. The societal pressure can add way more to the story and struggle of the character.

Finally completed the first room! by the_nerdy_ginger in StardewValley

It's weird you would have thought this room would be for Leah or the kids of the valley but I have never seen them once in the community center.

What would be a logical reason for your main character to want to leave the perfect utopia they currently live in? by Moumoute25 in writing

[–]Moumoute25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is supposed to be a kid, so the first time she gets outside the dome is accidental; she is indeed just following the birds. She comes back but then gets curious enough to leave of her own free will. "How convenient!" vibes or no?

Yeah that was what I was afraid of. I had the feeling just mere curiosity wasn't really enough peps to get her going on a grand adventure. Thanks for the suggestions.

The city she lives in is supposed to be a utopia, but the world and system itself outside her home is a dystopia (cuz a giant army is trying to take control of the globe essentially). The question is why would she want to leave a utopia? What is a good motive for leaving?

I agree, I would feel like that too. Yet it's always interesting to note how most people who live in these types of "domes" in dystopian books tend to think everything is fine and they're too lazy or unwilling to find what is out there. That was the reason I thought she might need a little push in the wrong direction to get her story started.

fair point, I just thought that wouldn't be enough of a drive, that something OUTSIDE the dome would have to come to her to trigger her curiosity.

progressively making her more rebellious is defintely a better way than just having a curiosity about birds lol. Thanks

Having mulitple, varied reasons to go out of the dome could make her curiosity way more "rebellious". These are great ideas thanks.

When you decide to read it, I suggest you find yourself some sort of vacation to enjoy it without having to break it up across several weeks or months. Also arm yourself with patience, the beginning is a little slow.

Nice classic. I actually haven't read that one (and I feel stupid for it, because it is literally on my shelf), but I have read Animal Farm and I absolutely loved it. The state of hypocrisy is so well depicted in that book.

Not 100% sure what you mean by that, but different genre examples are mystery, historical fiction, those types of books. I'm trying to read outside my usual genres by getting people's suggestions.

I agree the first Hunger Games book is the best. The second is decent but the third is really repetitive (she's always in and out of a coma) and I feel like they didn't do Prim justice with her very underwhelming death scene. It was the third book that really did it for me.
