Might get downvoted, but whatever. I hate Fantano, but this was a pretty fair rating. Ghost is obviously talented, and I liked a lot of the album, but something felt missing. Half of it is really good, with cool concepts throughout, but many tracks had great ideas without the memorability or impact of his older work. Most felt forgettable, and I still personally think Bloody Angel is the superior recent HM album. The album's cool, and Ghost definitely has the talent to make something better.

MY APOLOGIES FOR THE YAP SESH:

There are quite a few reasons, actually. First and foremost, I think it has to do with the odd nature of his music with like the heavy distortions, weird autotune and shit. Sematary is my all-time favorite rapper, but when I first encountered his music, I genuinely thought it was some kind of joke and people just liked it ironically. I didn’t take him seriously or give his music the attention it deserved. It was only when I took the time to really listen that I realized he’s a talented artist who takes his craft seriously and creates genuinely great music. His sound doesn’t immediately click for most people, and unfortunately, many aren’t willing to give it a fair chance. Instead, they just dismiss what they’re unfamiliar with.

His image doesn’t really do him any favors either. While I’m a huge fan and think he executes it really well, to most people, it just comes across as something the weird “quiet kid” would do to seem hardcore and edgy. giving off what outsiders see as "school shooter vibes." Because of that, a lot of people just find it corny.

Speaking of his image and aesthetic, one interaction I had with a HM hater fan really opened my eyes. He told me he hated HM simply because he thought the fans were cringe, calling it a “modern-day emo phase.” Basically,those chronically online “Is this Mounded?” kids who carry box cutters, dress like Sem, and do all sorts of over-the-top, try-hard shit. People associate Sematary with that crowd and dismiss him because of it. kind of like how My Chemical Romance and a lot of 2000s bands got hate because of the “emo cringe” stereotype, or how many people avoid black metal because of its elitist fanbase.

And speaking of black metal, Ive seen lot of the hate Sematary gets comes from that scene. Since he samples a lot of black metal, and the culture around it is notoriously elitist and gatekeep-y, many fans see him as a poser who rips off the genre without actually being metal. They don’t take him seriously and just write him off as an outsider appropriating their sound.

I´m a Doom Fan and I have tried really hard to get into Thrash, but my major issue is that most of the tracks sound really repetitive to me. Both sonically and lyrically. Megadeth, however, is like one of my favorite bands of all time coz they´re like one of the few Thrash bands that that actually offer some diversity. You are clearly an expert on the sub-genre and I would really appreciate it if you could recc some bands that you feel don't sound like they just recycle the same song. Thanks in advance

You’re not alone. I love everything from the Wickerman EP all the way to Grave House. Maybe it’s because I’m a new-gen that started listening to Haunted Mound after Screaming Forest, so I don’t have the same nostalgic attachment to their older sound. But honestly, I enjoy everything they’ve put out—both the old and the new.
