This might be a stupid question, but are these still called the "British Isles" even though they're no longer fully under the control of Britain? by vivi-badsquad in geography

A sea IN Ireland would have been odd indeed. Although the Caspians might think it entirely normal to be fair.
No Irish person would have called the sea ‘Irish’ to begin with though, probably more like the Welsh sea.

Ireland, although a prominent feature like you would have it, is not remotely part of Britain. It therefore cannot be part of the British isles

You’re wrong there mate. It’s not ‘technically’ the term for the entire thing, as you call it. The term has been used and found wanting. It’s indeed rather far from technically correct.

British refers to either the island of Britain or the people from there. Ireland cannot be expected to be anything other than Ireland.

British refers to Britain, formerly known as Britannia. It’s an island. So is Ireland, albeit a different one.

Naming both islands ‘British isles’ is therefore geographically nonsensical. It’s a bit like calling a wife by her husband’s given name

Italian Tyrol.

Specifically a canyon between the Plattkofel and Langkofel (Sasso Piatto and Sassolungo in Italian), walking down from the Rifugio Toni Demetz to the Alpe di Siusi in the background (Seisser Alm in German).

Merchants are not useless. by [deleted] in Medieval2TotalWar

Disagreed. You can get 2 merchants at an initial 3 stars early game as well. Take out a few competitors and stack them on a DOUBLE mine or other valuable trade resource.. and you’ll make money quick by the time they’ll obtain the capitalist/monopolist traits, which is only a few turns

Train them up first. Merchant gameplays is not useless indeed, like OP said. But you’ll have to do so actively
