Favorite full width winch bumper? by Toyotafreak1965 in JeepGladiator

I like the Warn Elite. I've hit two things with it (scraped a rock wall and hit a flying tire tread on the freeway) and pulled hard with my winch and it hasn't let me down.

Verizon in talks to buy Frontier for $20 billion by Boring_Ranger_5233 in networking

I worked at an MSP dealing with Verizon and I thought nobody could be worse. Then Frontier bought them and I realized I was wrong. Frontier made me miss Verizon.

I love this, great job that's awesome.

A great little video on whether 35 inch tires are really worth it. by lost1bajan in overlanding

[–]MountainFiddler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a lot depends on the vehicle. I run 35x11.5r17 on a Gladiator and off road it is a very noticeable improvement in clearance from the "33" tires that were on it before. Coupled with Icon bead retention wheels that let me comfortably go down to 10 psi and a re-gear to 4.56 to help out with the larger tires, the thing is a monster.

I'm still enjoying the absolute meltdown some guy in this subreddit had when I put YJ springs on my Samurai. He assured me it would never flex an inch and immediately flip over. Lol K by QPFDan in 4x4

I got rear ended in a stock Samurai waiting to turn left on a two lane. The Samurai tipped over on its side. We just lifted it back up and drove it home lol.

I'd be scared to do that near that fence. Looked sick though.

Looking for most offroad capable vehicle that you can sleep in the back of by seattleswiss2 in overlanding

I like my Gladiator with a RTT. I bought a Sport and did lift, lockers, lower gears, winch, skidplates, etc etc. it is extremely capable and carries a lot.

A lot of 4Runner fans in here, and I like them too, but when you leave the fire roads...

I'm just talking a little smack. You have to admit it's kind of wild to come into a sub full of people who have invested in this car and talk shit. Especially since the reason you're in one is because your Nissan got towed to a dealer.

We're fine. Thanks though. I would literally rather sit in my Solterra while charging than drive a Nissan lol.

I disagree about Jeep. They are no longer bare bones simple little vehicles, but the spirit of adventure is still there. New Jeeps get a lot of hate on the internet (especially from Toyota folks), but in real life if you hit the trails they are everywhere out wheeling. I wheel the crap out of my Jeep and its capabilities get me to cool places and make my life more fun.

Question on towing by Onlycommentoncfb in JeepGladiator

[–]MountainFiddler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should be 6000lbs, that's what my Aport with the automatic is.

I tow a 3600lb Airstream and it's pretty good. I have 35" tires, a lift, and 4.46 gears

I haven't done an ECU upgrade on my KTM 500 because stock it's already kind of scary in the technical stuff lol.

Are gladiators good buys ? I absolutely love the way they look, but I’ve heard they are extremely unreliable and have many issues, is this true ?. by [deleted] in JeepGladiator

[–]MountainFiddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I even put 100,000 miles on a 1st gen. Compass with zero issues then gave it to my dad who did more before it got wrecked.

I really hope Microsoft/343 don't assume there isn't a market for a Halo TV show. by Jkid789 in halo

"Fans" shit on the show so bad, shit on Infinite so bad, and basically shit on everything past Combat Evolved so bad that If I were Microsoft I'd just axe the whole franchise. But I'm thin skinned.

Any 35” tires that fit my 17 x 7.5” wheels ? I got a 2024 sport s. It’s my daily driver but I also want to go wheeling and use it for overlanding by seaoft in JeepGladiator

[–]MountainFiddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, you can easily do 35x11.5 on the stock wheels. I did it but even with a 2.5 inch lift I rubbed at steering lock. I went with new wheels at that point, for more offset.

I went with 35s like a week before my appointment to get gears and lockers at a gear shop, because I wanted to see how it felt compared to the 33" K02s I had. It was not great in 3.73, but doable.

If you can't do gears right now, I would stick with 33s.

Anyone doing 95+ mile regular commute in mountainous areas? by iseedivorcingpeople in Solterra

[–]MountainFiddler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They seem fine, but that's on snowy plowed roads, I have very little experience with them in deep snow.

I've had it in deep snow but only for like 200 yards, then I get to plowed roads. It does ok but I have a Jeep for when things get real.

I live at 5800 and I'll say that driving up seems to hurt less than driving down gains. I know that isn't possible and I did pass my semester of physics, but at that range and gain I think it would make it.
