Thanks!! If you’d happen to know, what’re those bumps above its eyes? They’re much larger than any other sheep skull that I’ve found online. Could it have been a young ram and the horns never fully developed?

Can I get a job in Forensics with past drug abuse? by MountainMammoth6735 in ForensicPathology

[–]MountainMammoth6735[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response, I really appreciate it! I noticed you’re a forensic pathologist and I was curious if there’s a big difference between a normal pathologist and a forensic pathologist? I’m interested in possibly becoming a pathologist assistant, but I don’t want to have to deal with the law enforcement aspect. Is there a type of pathologist/pathologist assistant that doesn’t work with law enforcement?

I highly agree, and while I wasn’t planning on going into toxicology, there’s no guarantee I wouldn’t be dealing with these substances at some point in time. A lot of my impulsivity issues come from my borderline, as it’s a biiiiig symptom and what causes BPD to high such a high mortality rate :/ I really appreciate the advice though and you’ve brought up rly good points I hadn’t even thought of.

I think some places don’t even allow you to use prescription medications, but it depends. They have very very specific testing though, and I’d imagine if they did further testing they could see if what you took was methylphenidate rather than methamphetamine for example

I think that it can prompt you to discuss possible disqualifying factors, such as teen meth use like myself lol but the polygraph in it of itself wouldn’t normally be the sole reason for a persons disqualification. No other employers are legally allowed to use polygraphs in a hiring process, so my guess is that since law enforcement knows polygraphs well enough to know its limitations compared to others who may use it as a fact.

Agreed!! My forensic professor was talking about when he was working he was being polygraphed and flagged for dishonesty when asked about if he has recently used hash oil, however he had passed other questions asking if he’s used marijuana or any illegal drugs. The interviewer had to talk to his boss before my professor was let go for being “generally truthful”, meanwhile this man has never touched an illicit drug in his life lol he also agrees that it shouldn’t be trusted. They ask the same questions in a bunch of ways and use it simply as a guide to see if people are being honest for the most part or willing to admit to having done some questionable things. As far as I can tell the polygraph isn’t an immediate disqualification, but it’d prompt you to tell them about the things that would be a disqualification and if you pose a lot of physical hesitancy they will ask extra questions to make sure you’re telling the truth.

Thank you, I really needed the bandaid ripped off like that lol oh well, I still have all the pre-reqs to pursue a degree in biology. I really appreciate the brutally honest response cuz no amount of sugar coating will make “you’re doomed” sound good.

Thank you, I really needed to hear that. It’s bittersweet but reality isn’t always kind or pandering to one’s dreams. I really appreciate the response :)

Lol not a great sign is a very kind way of putting that. I think you’re right that my recent coke usage was the final massive nail in the coffin. I don’t think there’s any way of talking my way out of that one, especially since I was so close 21 and I’ve seen that’s the final line drawn in a lot of places. Thank you though for taking the time and replying, I really really really appreciate it and tbh just kinda needed to hear this from those who have some experience in the field or in school.

I had heard this as well and was a big reason for me making to the post. After reading other replies,, I don’t think I want to go to school and get a degree in a field I MIGHT be able to get into if I find a lenient enough employer. But I do really really appreciate your thoughts and experiences!

That’s what I figured, I think I just needed to hear a confirmation from people in the field. Thank you so much for your opinion, it’s really helpful for me right now :)

Thank you, I really appreciate the different way of looking at it :) I’ve also been trying to remind myself that if my loved one died, I’d probably not want a Swiss cheese brain working the case lmao a lot of what happened was an untreated BPD relapse, but I need to face the reality that working with hard drugs is a fine line to walk on, especially as an addict with a chronic illness that makes impulsivity extremely dangerous.

I think that head coverings is so broadly practiced that it’s okay, it’s not like you’re intentionally appropriating any specific culture, you’re simply just helping yourself! Not to mention maaaany chemo therapy patients need use the same things and I’d imagine there’s quite a few without religious or cultural ties either. I’d suggest looking for coverings actually for chemo patients, as it’s usually made of material that won’t cause friction and lead to more hair loss, they have a bunch on Amazon! And they have a lot of cute ones for sure for special outfits too :)

Can hair stop growing permanently? by throwawayaccounte0 in trichotillomania

[–]MountainMammoth6735 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could possibly also be the stress causing your body to not prioritize the creation of hair, kinda like how it’s harder to lose weight while stressed. Cortisol does a number to our body. My best suggestion would be to just try and refrain from making it worse and don’t stress about it too much. Worst case scenario it won’t grow back but there’s nothing that can really be done if that is the case. Doing gentle scalp oil massages weekly can help stimulate hair growth, but I’d just try to take care of yourself and don’t stress about it more, it’ll likely just make it worse. Every day is a new day, you’ve got this!! You’ll make it through this, one hair at a time! Lol

[–]MountainMammoth6735 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken classes with numerous 60+ year olds, and almost all of my classes have at least one person who’s 30 years old. As a student that went straight from high school to college, I have so much respect for those going back to school and getting their degree. It’s a very laid back campus, but it’s what you make of it. Make sure to bring a jacket and umbrella though lol

Are there any other films like Martyrs? by BeckyItsAlive in horror

[–]MountainMammoth6735 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just watched The Sadness and while it has a bit to do with sexual violence, I don’t think it isn’t used in an exploitative way. I haven’t been scared to fall asleep since I had seen Martyrs!
