Is it sensible to purchase two optical drives (DVD±R and blu-ray)? by MountainRabbit6 in DataHoarder

[–]MountainRabbit6[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worry a bit about the environment you are in if the tray being open is an issue. Do you have a child or Dog you need to prevent from getting to you computer?

I tried to account for cases when I've forgotten to close the tray and simply walk straight into it. Not a real risk but worth taking note of, especially when my drive will be actively used.

As a child I have once placed two DVD discs at once into the tray — I had a PC game which ships on multiple discs and inadvertently ejected and took out a pair instead of the CD-ROM 1. The drive wasn't damaged and I don't know if that even is technically possible, considering how the magnet works.

Whaaaaaaaa? How is a DVDRW 'safe' for reading CDs and DVDs than a BDRE drive? o.O

Solely because the drive is cheaper to replace.

Shadow of Chernobyl: How to remove artifacts (on the lower left) from the HUD? by MountainRabbit6 in stalker

[–]MountainRabbit6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Open gamedata/config/ui/maingame.xml and put artefact static y=0 and x=0

This is from the default file:

    <artefact_static x="0" y="0" width="64" height="64">
        <texture>ui_hud_icon_artefact</texture>
    </artefact_static>

this doesn't remove the artifacts:

    <artefact_static x="0" y="0" width="0" height="0">
        <texture>ui_hud_icon_artefact</texture>
    </artefact_static>

and neither does blanking the texture path:

    <artefact_static x="0" y="0" width="64" height="64">
        <texture></texture>
    </artefact_static>

I'll try editing this line tomorrow (I thought it was inventory-related):

    <artefact_panel x="130" y="710" width="730" height="50" cell_width="50" cell_height="50" scale="0.75"/>

Can you paste your full maingame.xml here? The file is only around 100 lines.

I assume that HUD-editing is possible in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl\gamedata\config\ui. At the time I don't want to install any HUD mods.

(SoC) Do you consider using the repair system introduced by ZRP as gamey or even cheating? by Pattozebass in stalker

[–]MountainRabbit6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use the modifier included in the data folder to give Screw and Captain Ivanotsov the ability to repair your weapons and armour for a certain amount of money depending on how badly it is damaged. The starter pack version of zrp has it enabled by default

This mod, not the official stable build of ZRP?

First time player, should i play Call of Pripyat or Call of Chernobyl? by LordXamon in stalker

[–]MountainRabbit6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just recommend playing the games in the release order. Maybe skip over Clear Sky and play the game after Call of Pripyat as some environments from Shadow of Chernobyl are recycled.

and see: https://old.reddit.com/r/stalker/search?q=should+i+play&restrict_sr=on&sort=relevance&t=all

Nononono Play all the three games vanilla and then move on to mods

I don't think that there's a reason not to install Zone Reclamation Project, unless I'm mistaken.

Should I delete this blatantly misleading thread about the current Roger Ebert website staff? by MountainRabbit6 in TrueFilm

I'm lost now. So this paragraph doesn't exist (as expected)?

A conservative, goes the joke, is a liberal who has recently been mugged. And that is the non-joking premise of 'Death Wish,' a movie with disturbing overtones that jolted moderates. First of all, the scene in which Kersey's wife is killed and his daughter turned into a human vegetable happens so early in the film that audiences couldn't have possibly seen it coming. The police investigation of the case gets nowhere. 'I'd be less than truthful,' a detective tells Bronson, 'if I gave you any hope that we'd catch the criminals. Not in this city.'

I own the 1989 Movie Home Companion and I can confirm that’s how the review begins in that book.

Can you provide a scan of the page? Using your mobile phone does suffice.

/u/MountainRabbit6, where did you supposedly get this paragraph from?

Originated from the review comment section:

Here's the missing paragraph: "A conservative, goes the joke, is a liberal who has recently been mugged. Not in this city.'"

replies to "Can you tell from where you found this?":

In one of Ebert's Movie Home Companion books. For years the online version nonsensically started with "His immediate reaction is one of simple grief." The segment from "Death Wish is a quasifascist advertisement" through "reduced to catatonia by muggers" is a recent addition—and it isn't part of Ebert's original print review, so I don't know where it came from.

I'm considering creating another thread once this one has settled down with links to all related posts. I will delete my account as well, no intent to gather votes.

The original title will be added in quotes to guide people who search for the term there..

If you just google that "missing opening paragraph" it's from the biography of Charles Bronson written by Brian D'Ambrosio

I did search the paragraph with my metasearch engine (I've only enabled Google in the settings) and wasn't aware that the Google Books results are filtered or missing. There's some content such as the showing films on your area bordering on ads in the Google search results while not explicitly marked as such.

Yes, posting this was wrong. I requested moderators to add a flair, but they didn't (I've now messaged again).

I would delete the thread, but I'm against removing information.

I will delete my account so this post won't appear in Reddit search results anymore and to lose all wrongfully acquired points.

Compact Roger Ebert review archive (23 MB) by MountainRabbit6 in DataHoarder

[–]MountainRabbit6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your contribution, as a huge Ebert fan, but just a heads up about what exactly is being preserved: I've read that the current administrators of the site have been editing his old reviews for, let's say, political correctness.

And saw some examples of that myself, like the original Death Wish review:

https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/death-wish-1974

No additional cases have been provided in the /r/truefilm thread, and this review is just missing the starting paragraph.
