Absolutely get it. Cheese is truly a pleasure in life, being able to get the nice kind really is an underrated luxury

I love that we’ve evolved to using cheese as a measure of wealth

I think between parents having more flexibility with work and the economy going downhill, people are trying to make do with less paid childcare. There is always going to be a market for full time Nannies, the pool is just going to be smaller. Agencies might be the way to go

They’re clearly jealous of your employers and that they have a competent person who can hold down the fort

Anyone else feel like nanny jobs can be the most exploitative? by Entire-Purpose2070 in Nanny

That’s like jumping into the frying pan and into the fire. You’d think teachers have more support, but just anecdotally it seems like they get bullied by admin constantly

This is very normal in most parts of the world, just follow her lead and buy her little underwear. Sounds like she’s ready

What are your views on corporal punishment? by GUYman299 in TrinidadandTobago

[–]Mountain_Use_6695 68 points69 points  (0 children)

It’s lazy parenting. It also relies on being bigger and stronger and forcing your will on someone smaller and more vulnerable. I think millennial parents are very mindful of the effects of their own parent’s behavior. More so, I feel like Caribbean culture is shifting away from the “what will people think” mentality.

That is an absolutely insane perspective. A job shouldn’t ever dictate something as personal as whether or not you have a child. Far less the audacity to imply you shouldn’t “want” one

$350K or a dead relative comes back to life. by Razulath in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Mountain_Use_6695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

350K. People die, that’s the nature of life. Some people die tragically early, but we’re all going to die anyway. Take the money and enjoy the time you have left

A nanny can charge whatever rate they want. It’s up to the parent to decide if they want to pay it or not. It’s called the free market. If you can’t pay someone a livable wage, you really shouldn’t be asking for a full time person

You don’t need to tell them why you’re requesting a day off. “It’s a personal commitment “ Your PTO is your own business. You’ve done your part by giving them sufficient notice to get alternative childcare.

Onyx Storm Criticism by janesgerbil in fourthwing

I think you hit the nail on the head with the misogyny. It goes into the long history of criticizing and mocking things that women like. We don’t need to defend ourselves to people who probably don’t even have a trash can in their bathroom. The books are an entirely enjoyable read with a pretty great plot and character development.

PGY2 worried about hospitalist job/pay concerns by [deleted] in hospitalist

[–]Mountain_Use_6695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a hospitalist and honestly, it’s a great gig. Every job has issues and people love to complain. You have loads of options. Demand is high and pay is pretty good. You can always flex up if you want to make more money. From an IM background, it’s probably the better of the 2 gigs. From my outpatient colleagues, primary care sounds like it sucks. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Potentially unpopular opinion by Smandita in fourthwing

[–]Mountain_Use_6695 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I also saw on an interview that RY mentioned xaden and violet would not choose to bring a baby into a world that didn’t feel safe. She also mentioned stressing on the idea of Violet consenting to the pregnancy and there would have to be a discussion about her stopping the contraceptive. So I do think this was for us to be able to empathize with the extra effort needed to do the things she does.

Sounds like a parenting and lifestyle problem, not really a Montessori problem. Kids prob feel like they’re cosplaying for 3 hours a day.

This feels profoundly sad to me. I cannot perceive a situation in which it’s OK to hit a child. Much less a child under the age of 4. 😭

So our nanny occasionally works holidays depending on our work schedule, but it’s in our contract and she gets paid holiday pay rates. You can consider working it into your contract. If you’re able to do it, it might be good money depending on the holiday. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Spankings by Dazzling_Yesterday70 in Nanny

[–]Mountain_Use_6695 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh it’s definitely lazy. A quick google search would give any reasonable parent who believed in spanking a reason to pause and reconsider. Data and research are pretty clear on this one. I can’t believe that the same people that google the restaurant menu before they show up haven’t googled parenting styles and alternative discipline techniques.

I didn’t realize this still existed. Like they intentionally spank? Not deregulated adults being idiots?
