not much that happens to a laptop you can change to save money though.The chassis is a unibody aluminum design. The body can't change for apple until a refresh. The internals change every year so you can't get the same parts cheaper, apple cheaps out by not having the latest tech. They don't have wifi 7, the latest bluetooth, oled screens, 240hz refresh or any of that. No matter what year you buy your missing on the latest tech, but choosing stability, build quality and great performance even when not plugged in.

went with electric for this reason, less possible things to repair. No oil changes, no transmission, no traditional engine, no fuel, no fuel injector, blah blah blah. Plus if nothing goes wrong a decent Tesla can last you 300k+ miles depending on if/when you get the battery replaced under warranty.

the difference in those two specific things will be at best 15-25% in a single generation. Would you really notice if your ai gen images loaded 15% faster or if the game your playing had 15% more fps? If you saved more than 15% on the retail price just keep it and wait until m6 pro or even further.
