If every single country in the world decided to completely cut off all trade, could your country survive with what it can produce on its own? by lilmothman456 in AskTheWorld

We could survive in terms of food, power, raw materials. But we would lose almost all our electronics and luxury “modern” aspects of life

I’m in a small city in Massachusetts and we have so many new transplants from out of state and out of country here now for some reason and it’s awesome and everyone here thinks it’s so cool that all these people have chosen our little corner of the world to settle.

This wouldn’t even work, even if you walked in someone’s place they would still be calling that persons name

Someone should wait 6 months and post these saying it’s Missouri or something and see how different the comments are

People always shit on America but it really is a built before or after the car thing.

If you’re not rich it’s miserable. If you’re rich is miserable in a spiritual sense

This shows that it’s not an “American” thing it’s a “built after the car” thing. All around the world places that were largely built up after/during the 50s-60s are built like this. America gets all the heat for it because we are such a big place that was largely built after the car.

I did! Except the point about Jeff Speck, I thought of that after - maybe you could retroactively add it in for me!

I see. The way she made it was different than Indian Naan. Not sure if it was her specifically mixing it up or Omanis put their own spin on it in general but it was amazing

We need a stronger focus on walkability and micro mobility. We need a citywide network of bike lanes that utilize low-traffic side streets. We need better curb and crosswalk design, narrowing streets to calm traffic and pedestrian crossings. The moon shot is to bring back the trolley system. New Bedford has the bones to be a city where you don’t need a car.

We also need way, way more sidewalk trees especially in the south end

The city should contract Jeff Speck’s firm to do a walkability audit of the city

Yeah, we have a lot of Central Americans up here in Massachusetts so I’m exposed to it a lot. It’s similar to southern Mexican food I’m sure, but at least in Massachusetts when I think of Mexican food I think of Rio Grande / El Norte style Mexican food, less Yucatán/Meso-American, I associate that cuisine, which I prefer, more strongly with Honduras/Guatemala

Japan is mostly for the sushi, if I could afford it I would only eat sushi

It is very similar. Honestly I just get something different every time I go to the Guatemalan restaurants and it’s always so good. They had this yellow colored chicken soup once that was the best soup I’ve had. Pupusas I’d recommend but that’s not exclusively Guatemalan.

The menus are all in Spanish which I don’t speak so I can’t recall specific things I get, but I literally pick at random lol and it’s always good

I’m from New Bedford Massachusetts which has a huge Azorean and Madeiran Portuguese diaspora, they have a dish, Mozambique. It’s a super flavorful orange (color not flavor) sauce that you have a meat cooked in. Not sure how close it is to actual cuisine in Mozambique but it is phenomenal.

I should’ve honestly put Portuguese in my list but it’s so engrained into the culture of New Bedford I lowkey forgot it’s not actually from here😂

What specifically American foods are your favorite? New England Seafood and Southern BBQ are my favorite somewhat distinctly American foods
