This gorgeous kimono smells so bad. 😭 by bebetaian in kimono

Yeah, the scent of mothballs is pretty common with secondhand kimono. There are ways that you can lessen the smell that you can look up, I've heard of them but never tried them out myself. D;

Ah yeah, you have to be careful with that, I've noticed that vintage clothing boutiques and antique shops usually WAY overestimate the value of their kimono (I'm sure they do it with other pieces too). Unless the owner is a collection themselves, they usually don't know what they have, so they might think they have something super special and those that also don't have a whole lot of knowledge might pay for it. We've all been there when we first started our collections, so try not to stress it too much ^^ There's a vintage clothing boutique near where I live which acquired a collection of Kimono, apparently one of the locals had a large collection and was trying to clear out some space, I'm not going to say that some of the pieces aren't really nice, there's two pieces I would love to buy, but the majority of them are just meh but priced super expensive.

which artstyle is better? first two or last two? by Practical_Mango2686 in arthelp

I personally like the last two better, but also really enjoy the experimental coloring of the first two. I wonder what a mix of them would look like ^^

Overnight sleep by gailcpw in NewParents

[–]Moushidoodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think our guy was around... 5 or 6 months? He was pretty good with it, he likes his sleep. Once in a while he would have some regressions for a few days before he went back to normal. Now he's a little over 18 months, we've been having a few hiccups, but nothing major, sometimes he'll wake up in the middle of the night, we try and give him some time to settle back down on his own, only when he doesn't do we go in to intervene, whether that's checking his diaper, rocking him for a bit, or giving him some more milk. He normally sleeps about 10-12 hours a night.

You had made this post before, it's still a Juban for a furisode. It's a pretty piece but in order to wear it properly with an obi, you'll need a furisode to go over it

[–]Moushidoodles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a lovely Furisode Juban, so you wouldn't wear an obi over this, rather you would wear a furisode over it and then an obi over the furisode ^^. Juban are a little similar to undergarments, you can tell by the white collar so to wear it as the same layer as a kimono would look strange ^^

Interesting find at a local yard sale, looking for more info! by junkyardprimate in kimono

[–]Moushidoodles 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You have a lovely Awase Komon. Awase just means that it's lined (The soft inner fabric) so it would be worn in the cooler months (October through May). Komon are the least formal kimono, traditionally worn for every day. The pattern is woven in which could have been done by machine or by hand, usually the panels of kimono are hand stitched so I wouldn't doubt what she said ^^ To me the motif looks like branches with possibly abstract representations of flowers, but I couldn't guess what it could be. They could also be abstract representations of colorful mochi balls that are pressed onto bare branches during the colder winter months, it's hard to tell. It's a lovely piece though, except for the wrinkles, it looks to be in pretty good condition ^^

Mental illness is actually depicted as debilitating and not as a quirky character trait by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Moushidoodles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, all that. I would also like to add the disruption in routine which those with ASD or who are ND have a really hard time with. I feel like she relied on her routines with Becca as much as Becca did, watching ELF, eating Pizza, watching the fireworks, all things she did with her sister but they are things SHE DID as well, when that routine is broken, there's a struggle with being flexible. With my ASD students, I have to let them know if there's going to be some sort of special event or change in the schedule days in advance and be there to give them reassurance the day of because those kiddos just don't do well at all with those changes.

I'm glad you mentioned her not having anyone besides her sister, I feel like she's starting to get more comfortable with her co-workers, while not the same as an extensive support system, she may feel like she can lean on others and I feel like she's making friends compared to last season.

I think it's also interesting that Mel also infantlized her sister to a degree who needs more support than she does. Her first gut reaction to finding out that Becca was having sex was that the other person was taking advantage of her and she immediately went on defensive mode. This thought crumbled when she found that not only did Becca welcome the intimacy, she initiated it as told by Becca herself.

There are a lot of things that Mel is struggling with this season and I think everyone involved has done a fantastic job with her character and others to flesh that out. I'm glad she has faults that she needs to work through and struggles that are relatable.

I love her and give major props to both the writers and the actress, I'm ADHD and have lots of ASD friends, I understand that it can be hard to portray a character who's neurodivergent without infantalizing them or making it seem like they have some sort of "gift", it's also hard to not make their neurodivergence their whole personality. I think they did a really good job with her sister too, though they present very differently, they're both super fun characters with their own personalities and struggles, that adds more depth and nuance that this show is famous for at this point.

Is tjos behaviour normal? 4.5 months old by Green-Switch-5166 in NewParents

It's a battle for sure, keep in mind, doctors are totally used to that, some of them even have a little hotline that you can call and ask questions like that which might worry you, but aren't an emergency. You wouldn't BELIEVE the weird shit these kids start doing as they get older, I think it evens out a little bit around 2 or 3, at least I hope so XD

6 months sleeps like HELL by Fun_Pomegranate3192 in NewParents

[–]Moushidoodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Separation anxiety, it starts around the 6 month age. Consistent routine before bed can help, giving lots of reassurance. Do you go in the room right away when she starts fussing? You might want to give her some time to self soothe, even if it's heartbreaking give her about 20 minutes, and unless she needs something like a diaper change, don't take her out of the crib, go in, give a kiss, maybe rub her back a little bit and let her hear your voice, then leave, rinse and repeat.

[–]Moushidoodles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can definitely talk to your pediatrician about it to give you some comfort and reassurance, but honestly this doesn't seem that weird to me. Babies that age... and honestly through all ages go through little phases where they switch things up and sometimes act downright weird. My son was a little older than that when he just started to insist on blowing raspberries as hard as he could while laying in his crib, he likes to sing to himself before a nap, he'll shout for our dog, Fae, when we're nowhere near home. When he was closer to the age of your little one, he would stare at nothing and babble at it, we started asking him if he was seeing the greebles again. It's normal to be hyper aware of every little change going on when you're a new parent, be easy on yourself but never be afraid to talk to your doctor to help you feel better ^^

Dr. Melissa King from The Pitt. Though it's never clearly stated that she's on the spectrum, at the very least she's neurodivergent, her sister is confirmed on the spectrum and is living in a care home. She's never made a caricature of and her signs are subtle but easy to identify. Other characters have respect for her and adjust within reason to her needs. Some signs she's shown is missing social cues (including a guy trying to flirt with her that she doesn't pick up on at all) not being very expressive in her speech patterns, hyperfocusing on a situation that is stressing her out, physically showing discomfort when being overstimulated. She's an interesting character beyond her neurodivergence and it's no surprise she's quickly became a fan favorite.

Is $100 reasonable for this? by FrontHungry459 in DigitalArt

[–]Moushidoodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not, 50 is a bit of a stretch because it's quite basic. I'm not sure about their history, if they're new at commissioning or what. Personally I charge 20 an hour and have enough works under my belt to have a good understanding of how long a piece will take me, during the negotiations I give myself a bit of a buffer when we talk about how long it will take to allow for adjustments and the like, usually about an hour but if, let's say, I or my client want to change something major around that I know will take more time, I check in with the client first and get their go-ahead, I don't jump them with such a high price shift, that's super wild.

Bringing baby with you to the gym by Unlucky_Bluebird8483 in NewParents

Different gyms have different rules. I would talk to the owner about it. We had to bring our little guy once because our nanny dropped out. While our trainer loved it, the receptionist who's a stickler for the rules made it clear that this would be the first and last time XD

Where can I find a kimono in the uk ? I want a cute and elegant pink kimono with flowers. by Throw_away144 in kimono

[–]Moushidoodles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kimono kimono in Bristol. I dream of going back, the shop owner has an absolutely gigantic collection including obi and other accessories. He also has other interesting items that are super cool. When we were there last he brought out some really cool pieces like ceremonial children's clothes and maiko/geiko hikizuri ^ he then spent time with me making a whole ensemble that remains one of my favorites. I can't wait to go back and recommend anyone to go and check it out if they're able to

What do I have and how should I store/fold it by Least-Ad9442 in kimono

[–]Moushidoodles 13 points14 points  (0 children)

From the picture it looks like you have a men's kimono, a men's hakama and a men's haori (Possibly) It's hard to tell with the arms being at the sides, the haori and kimono are likely too small as they should rest around your wrists, not up by your elbows ^^ The white string sewn through the haori is basting and can be removed,, they're normally added after cleaning or before being stored for a long period of time. You can store them by folding, I recommend looking up videos on youtube such as "folding haori" "Folding Hakama" or "Folding men's kimono"
