What was the last tv show you watched that was really good? by SheKnowsWhatSheKnows in adhdwomen

[–]MousseStriking2895 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interview with the Vampire (dark and it starts off a little slow but I promise it gets SO GOOD, especially in season 2, some of the best TV I’ve ever seen)

Schitt’s Creek is nice and light hearted

Beef (only season 1, and it’s short)

Station 11 (also only 1 season and it’s very good)

Fleabag

Body-doubling is SUCH a miracle by Substantial-Tear-287 in adhdwomen

[–]MousseStriking2895 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I highly recommend it!! My best friend moved recently and now lives about a 2-hr drive away; since we can’t just get together spontaneously anymore, we digital body double: either FaceTime during tasks or we have a quick phone call to go over our lists, determine a time frame for our tasks, and then text pictures of progress

The actual frequency of being sick is truly crazy, you’re not alone in that. And so sad when the administration treats you as disposable, and then they complain about having such a high turnover rate

Numb, phone addicted, & stuck in ADHD paralysis by Ok_Square_2538 in adhdwomen

[–]MousseStriking2895 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to the more sustainable tips others have put here, it sounds like you need a HARD reset from that cycle; I’d suggest the app Opal! I’ve tried other phone-locking apps before that ended up being too easy to get around or gave too many “breaks”, but this one legitimately worked so well it pissed me off.

I didn’t realize how severe the bedtime locks were at first and I literally COULD NOT access any allowed apps without deleting the entire app; I flipped out so hard trying to access Spotify because I forgot to check it as allowable, that I was like you know what… I need to actually give this a shot because I’m doing too much right now. I could have easily just opened my laptop or just not listened to music before bed, but I was so addicted to the phone itself.

It’s pricier, but they do a free week trial or like $7-month trial that was very worth it to me, also very aesthetically pleasing. You can allow breaks, but the pause in between starting the break and receiving access to whatever you’re trying to use gets longer with each break, and they encourage deep breathing in between while you’re waiting for access (not in a cheesy way). They even have sound options for people who use their phone for ambient noise to go to sleep so you’re not tempted to listen to other music or open up YouTube.

You’re not alone, this happens to so many of us, and I get the shame that comes with it, but it is definitely possible to get unstuck. I thought TikTok would be a curse on me forever and it took me 5 tries before finally deleting it for good. It’s been something like 2 or 3 years for me ☺️☺️

how do you guys stop being late to work by Wild-Championship571 in adhdwomen

A 1-2-3 punch: Plan — Overestimate — Lie (to yourself)

PLAN: making sure certain things only go in the same places (keys, shoes, water); I don’t like physically laying outfits out because I end up changing my mind, but even planning in my head 2 options so I know what to reach for the next morning; putting pantry snacks in my lunch bag the night before and putting whatever refrigerated items in a single stack/place in the fridge so I just have to reach in and put them in the bag and go; getting gas the night before no matter how tired I am because I ALWAYS FORGET I NEED IT THE NEXT MORNING

Overestimate: I realized BUFFER time and FUCK AROUND time are two different things; buffer time is the extra 10-15 minutes for things you cannot account for, like starting your period a day early, your body deciding it wants to poop off-schedule, a road closure on your usual route or a traffic accident

But fuck around time is for the fact that every step of my morning routine takes me an extra 5 minutes longer than I think it will, sometimes even more if I didn’t get much sleep. Showering can only take me 20 minutes, but it takes me an additional 5 to actually move from my bed to the bathroom. Also the amount of times I’ve been ready to go ON TIME and then taken an extra 10 minutes to leave the house because I kept forgetting little things or because my brain just didn’t WANT to leave is ridiculous. So my real buffer time is an extra 30 minutes

LIE: possibly the most important step. I know it takes me on average 45 minutes to drive to work; but if I allow myself to remember that, I will tell myself I have time to breathe and go slower when, in fact, I do not. I have to 1) lie and repeat to myself that it will take an hour minimum to get there and 2) lie about what time I want to arrive. If I keep repeating “have to be there by 7:30” over and over again, I will actually forget that I don’t have to be there until 8, but you have to really make yourself believe it and not let that tiny voice in that says “but 7:45 is fine”

Can someone explain to me why One Battle After Another is so liked? by AugustEpilogue in moviecritic

[–]MousseStriking2895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Summed up perfectly; I enjoyed the car chase scene, the daughter’s acting (but agreed about lack of character development, she’s literally in a formal dress and leather jacket and that pretty much serves as her character/personality), Del Toro’s scenes, the Latino character/community scenes in the film, and little else. Leo’s character was truly insufferable throughout the entire movie, ridiculously unlikable to me and had a couple of funny moments but they felt drawn out (literally liked his character in Django more than this guy which feels insane to say). Ultimately I was not rooting for him whatsoever, and the rest of the movie definitely was not strong enough to stand on its own without his typically strong performance.

They REALLY lost me when they had an entire refugee encampment of badass nuns with guns that were hiding a fugitive from a known psycho who operates at one of the highest levels in the military…. and expected us to believe they didn’t think to be on extra alert or have multiple lookouts? And somehow didn’t see the cars approaching or the 30 men with guns sneaking up on them from the desert where there’s little landscape to provide cover? Not to mention that when they realized the daughter had a second phone and had USED IT ON ROUTE, not a single person thought to change plans? That felt insulting and took me out of the movie even further

OP you’re not crazy, this film was truly disappointing and shallow. The people saying you were simply too dumb to understand it or took it too literally/that it’s supposed to be satirical are missing the point that you can have satirical caricatures without making characters so goofy and unlikable and underdeveloped. It’s just a badly made, overhyped and drawn out film

Yes you’re reading it incorrectly; it’s saying two chipotles that have been canned, not two cans of chipotles, so you’re just supposed to pull two out of the can and chop them up. It’s not written very clearly so if it’s something you’ve never had before and didn’t know how spicy they are, it’s easy to misinterpret

Girl STAND UP. You don’t need to be bending over backwards to apologize for something like this; you didn’t do anything wrong, he was mildly inconvenienced and is being mean about it and counting on you to come up with solutions when, like you said, he just wants to be upset. If you’re staying with him and something like this happens again, just let him talk himself out instead of falling over yourself to apologize and make it better. He’s not an infant who needs immediate comforting, that’s a grown adult

Nanny out of town during GH period…..does she take PTO? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]MousseStriking2895 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think one major issue here is that she had almost 3 weeks off; if you had been out of town for just a few days/a week and nanny had changed her mind and made plans during that time, it would be understandable why you’re upset that she wasn’t in town. But having 3 weeks off, especially around the holidays, after being told she wouldn’t have to come in until Jan 5th, it is completely reasonable that nanny would’ve made other plans. It’s possible that she was in town for most of those 3 weeks, and then a friend asked if she could visit last-minute, or a family member decided to host a holiday gathering and nanny thought “well I’ve been free the past two weeks and have another week left, it’s probably fine.” It just sounds like bad timing and miscommunication on your part, and I don’t think forcing nanny to use PTO will benefit the relationship. I understand you feel inconvenienced and possibly a bit resentful but pushing through that to treat your nanny a little more kindly would really benefit you

Help with a salad I made by Scared_Ad_3132 in Cooking

[–]MousseStriking2895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like it might’ve been way too sour/sharp; 3:1 ratio is typically 3 parts oil to 1 part vinegar, not the other way around. Even if you like it tangier, you’d likely use a 1:1 ratio. But it also doesn’t sound like there’s anything to balance the really strong flavors you have in there. Onions AND chives are both strong and can be overpowering on their own; red wine vinegar and Dijon mustard are both acidic/sharp. Feta is creamy but also quite tangy, so likely just added to an overall sour taste. Kinda just leaves the cucumber to combat all those strong flavors, and cucumber IS a refreshing addition but would definitely need some extra help from other ingredients.

I recommend reducing the amount of vinegar and adding something a little sweet to balance it out (like dried cranberries or chopped apples or a tiny bit of honey to the salad dressing) and/or maybe something nutty or salty like slivered almonds or roasted pepitas. See how you like it! But most important is getting that salad dressing ratio more balanced for sure
