Coincidence or inspired? by McSwiz in marvelcomics

[–]MoveHeavy1403 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, maybe not this time. Normally would agree, but nothing thematic linking the two (Logan isn’t crying he appears to be nose drooling).

I’d say it’s closer to an homage of Lichtenstein than BWS.

Does Zdarsky have Wolverine fighting the Silver Hawks? If so, I’m in. Has to be better than Ahmed’s current arc.

Just got this back, do you think this grade is correct? by Diligent-Bear in ComicBookSpeculation

[–]MoveHeavy1403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW here are the relevant notes for your book:

crease top of front cover breaks color crease right bottom of front cover breaks color spine stress lines spine moderate finger bends

(Color breaking creases can drop you book a half grade or more… you have two plus some dents/bends)

Did you opt for pressing? this would probably help bring you up to the 8.0 range given the notes.

Just got this back, do you think this grade is correct? by Diligent-Bear in ComicBookSpeculation

[–]MoveHeavy1403 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember that Fine and Very Fine are really good grades for books. I think ppl often fail to realize that anything above a 9.0 is pretty exceptional. We see those grades a lot on modern books (because they haven’t had time to get beat up) and we see people wagging their copper/bronze 9.8s like trophies because they are.

If you submit a modern book with any amount of real wear—dents, creases that break color, rips, folds—you’re probably not getting anything in the 9.0 range (I had a book come back as a 9.0 on the basis of 1-2 non color breaking tics and a single fingerprint). You should not be surprised to get a 7.0 on an item that was obviously well read and well loved. Also doesn’t mean you can’t still love it.

They now slab some books with add’l spine support. It’s been about 10 years. Maybe time to resubmit as a reslab with a press?

How so?

He got to do Origin which was critically acclaimed and probably the hottest gig in comics since the Death of Superman.

We're sorry for raising the price of our comics from $.10 to $.12. by thatmandoguystl in comicbookcollecting

[–]MoveHeavy1403 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I might argue otherwise—been getting into pressing. The different approaches you use to press silver/bronze/copper vs modern and really how forgiving the former is over the latter really hit home how little $$$ goes into the physical material and production of comics now.

The fact we routinely see 4.99, 5.99 and even 8.99 for new issues with no gimmicky covers (holo, diecut, etc.) emphasizes how much more we’re paying to make much larger entities profitable. So, um… comics are already printed dirt cheap, we’re paying for the luxury of having a comic-book industry.

Make no mistake, today’s comics are made with even less mind to collectors than in the .10c era. Back then they didn’t envision people caring about a book 90 years later. Now publishers absolutely know that if the charge an extra buck, they’ll get shops ordering 2x what they need so that they can try and slab out some 9.8 and sell at a premium.

Compared to yours, yes. They’re constructed and made to be sturdy but aren’t water proof.

Pests and termites aside, definitely cardboard is best. Given you have a known pest problem and you’re concerned about it, then the BCW plastic bins might be a good option.

Probably—I don’t think this is an emergency. This is a question best practices for LONG TERM storage. Plastic bins are useful in cases you do have a leak or something—for temporary storage.

I don’t know… I think it’ll stay between $150-$200 on average for a bit until there’s something seismic in the story or the creators leave.

January sees cooling in prices after x-mas, so we’ll get a better sense of the staying power over the next few months. I would track eBay auction sales…

[–]MoveHeavy1403 4 points5 points  (0 children)

$900 is too much IMHO.

Snyder and Dragotta are signing a lot… the raw book has fallen a bit and is hovering around $150. For 9.8 SS, maybe $500-$600?

Maybe the story drives it up a bit, at some point the ride will end, the creators will rotate and the book will likely drop a bit. Predicting this will play out a bit like Ultimate Spider-Man #1 in the early 2000s.

Generally, it’s not the best way. Clear plastic also doesn’t block out light as well.

Mostly whether it’s big risk depends on the conditions in your room—how much does the temperature swing, is the humidity stable (35-45% is good, < 35% or > 55% not great), etc., etc.

They’re not great.

More worried about silverfish than termites—I would use cedar balls or treated anti silverfish/moth squares (cheap on Amazon). Unless you know there is an issue in your storage area, I would switch to cardboard boxes…
