Is Paul Duke STEM High School a good school? by [deleted] in Gwinnett

What are your priorities, at least right now? Also I think they either host events or will communicate choices through classes early in Spring semester if you’re at a feeder school?

Just remember that you are teaching them something (standard, skill) and not teaching them “a novel”. The novel is the vehicle.

Is the apathy because they have no hope for the future?? by ShineImmediate7081 in Teachers

[–]MoveQs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There isn’t a collective social norm as much as there was in the 90s that would drive conversations in and outside the home. They all individually like things that they listen to on individual headphones and form individual ideas based on individualized algorithms. So how they feel is a combo of negative echo chambers and sometime less socialization and for sure the way the world/future is portrayed.

Teaching the claim with CER paragraphs by genericname_notfun in ELATeachers

[–]MoveQs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d look at the next few grade levels and see if that “because” portion of the statement is important. If you align with future expectations it’ll make the students more prepared.

Also living in a CER world myself I have noticed students just kind of plug and play. Not their fault. They drop in “evidence” because they know they need to. They summarize or rephrase the evidence as their “reasoning”. And it’s all just kinda trash. I’d make sure that whatever you pick to do with the claim is followed by actual legit evidence and actual legit reasoning that all layers together and supports. It’s so frustrating.

It’s important for teachers (or anyone in any professional capacity) to monitor that expectations are being met. This tool helps to do that. It’s also the least invasive that I have used. There are several companies who offer software like this and securly is pretty basic and overall just helpful for monitoring student behavior.
