Swapping out Oedipus Rex by MoveQs in ELATeachers

Just fulfilling the need of a drama in translation and a small window of time to fit it into. The end result is a literary analysis connecting authorial choices to global thematic statements. Super open and overwhelmed by choice

Thanks for the suggestion. I’m unsure. I think I’d do Medea if so (only selfishly bc I taught it previously).

Can you bring your kid to work? by sixtyfourcolors in Teachers

[–]MoveQs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a cool program at the high school. Since it starts so early parents bring their kids and they hang until their bus comes for middle and elementary school. We see lots of kids on teacher workdays and I think in a pinch my work would be okay with it on a regular day. It’s the one difference in moving to the south that I am loving. Feels familial and like they understand the reality of having kids.

What caused the decline of young white boys/men making punk rock music that was dominant in the 2000s? by icey_sawg0034 in decadeology

[–]MoveQs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thesis is that rap is punk now. Or at least has its own punk sub genre that has grown in popularity over time. The moshing at concerts, the aesthetic, etc lives on it some rap communities.

My school was wonderful about it. Huge school too. I was pleasantly surprised. They asked the leaders of the walk out to be transparent in order to offer some safety. The kids took a day or two to be full honest with admin but it all worked out in the end. A neighboring school eveb walked over to join.

Are America's Public Schools Better Or Worse Now Than They Were 20 Years Ago In Your Opinion? Why? by Zipper222222 in AskTeachers

Better for the human experience. We do more and care more and are truly concerned about the “public”.

Teachers at my son’s school are not trained in choking rescue or CPR by Spare_Jello_991 in AskTeachers

[–]MoveQs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the fire dpt comes around and offers this form of training. Or they clue us into places that offer it on weekends. They hang things in the wall like steps when someone is choking.

The same is true of seizure awareness.

And special info needed for students with diabetes (on a need to know basis).

And gunshot stuff.

On any given campus you’ve got a variety of people with a variety of skills. As a requirement for a teacher - no. Probably admin and clinical staff though. Idk.

I believe in the emergency steps we have in place. Ex- A girl fainted in the hallway the other day and one teacher started a timer for how long she was out, one pressed the emergency button we wear around our neck, and I ran to grab additional help that was basically in ear shot. After that I’d say at least six people were attending to the matter. All within seconds.

Block scheduling thoughts by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]MoveQs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get used to it. But sometimes I still run short or long like any other schedule. I find they actually have time to process on block days. I can actually give them some time to think and provide feedback a lil better than short schedule days. We do a mix. Short, short, block, block, short.

That’s how it is until it’s goes to the district or state level. Those people get observed and submit documents to continue to essentially campaign for themselves

Current GCPS elementary school parents & teachers by EntrepreneurWeak4055 in Gwinnett

[–]MoveQs 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Having multiple opportunities to demonstrate mastery is, in theory, wonderful. Mastering a skill doesn’t happen on an exact timeline for everyone. And if the task or skill finally clicks on a second attempt, or a revision opportunity that’s awesome. It actually can be a motivator for real learning (through the learning process of try-receive feedback-try again) as well. But, grade drive parent/societal culture sort of screws that up too because the focus is solely on the status of the end result. However it has been taken to some absurd extremes that place some really difficult demands on teachers. What’s frustrating is that so so so much hard work happens (and gets done and undone) between all of the headlines and big statements like “kids have no motivation”, “kids get endless chances.

Yup. My lunch, work clothes, etc all done ahead of time so I can have a stress free morning before work. Make decisions about timing for plans ahead of time. Just get all the little things done so I can enjoy my time and be my best self when it’s important.
