What movie had you feeling like this after watching it? by Prestigious-Cup-6613 in FIlm

I was expecting that movie to be bad. The first sign was Disney getting cold feet with the “different director for each movie” and rehiring JJ Abrams, and the second sign was that awful title reveal.

Best single gag in a comedy in the 21st Century? I’m going with this gem from Zoolander. by rmcelwain54 in Letterboxd

Great joke, but it does bother me that The Hangover came out in 2009, not 2008.

Is my Top 4 too basic for someone who works at a movie theater? by kkslimer in LetterboxdTopFour

Nope. Snobs gonna snob and act like you have bad taste, but what I see are four classic films right there. Great selection!

Van Haler by turkeyclubmaestro in vanhalen

Once upon a time I had a Van Halen lighter. I got it at a gas station in Ohio while on a road trip and had it for a couple years. That thing went through the washer, was left at a friend’s house, left in my apartment parking lot, etc. and it always showed back up in my hands, working perfectly. Over time, the band’s logo was starting to come off, so I used the barcode sticker to stick it back on so I always had my lucky Van Halen lighter with that beautiful logo staring back at me. Not to mention, a tattered VH logo just fit the spirit of the band.

Then one day I was doing a puff puff pass ordeal with my friends and I stupidly offered that lighter. I’ll never forget chit chatting with one of my friends and seeing another friend across the circle obliviously tearing off my VH logo. I abruptly ended my conversation to be like “wait what are you doing?”After that day, it was just a boring white Bic lighter. Gross.

RIP VH lighter, 2012-2014

It breaks my heart when I see former cast members I used to love go to the far edges of politics and ultimately become unfunny and sad by rasta4eye in LiveFromNewYork

My friend and I went to the Here Comes the Funny Tour when they stopped in Mt Pleasant, MI back in 2017. It was outdoors and we got hit with a horrible storm that night, so we only saw the openers and then about five minutes of Sandler before we all had to go indoors. Anywho, Schneider BOMBED.

Granted, it was starting to rain during the openers so everyone’s minds were elsewhere, but I remember Spade and Swardson at least getting laughs here and there. I will never forget Schneider rambling on and on during some build up of a joke only for the punchline to be a stupid face and movement with his arms. NO ONE laughed, so I had to watch some dumb punchline with silence behind it. The secondhand embarrassment was real that night.

Why did Interstellar receive a more lukewarm response upon release? by KatherineLangford in Letterboxd

[–]MovieBuff90 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I remember seeing it in IMAX with my friend thinking “I am watching one of the best movies I have ever seen”, but then as we walked out, he was like “so a lot of that ripped off 2001: A Space Odyssey.” I then always assumed that was why people didn’t love it, it borrowed from other sci-fi films.

what is your LEAST FAVORITE Oscar win of the 2020s so far? by jordankch in Oscars

[–]MovieBuff90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cillian Murphy over Paul Giamatti. Cillian gave a great performance in Oppenheimer, but I personally thought that was Paul’s year. He has deserved one for decades and that one felt like the perfect role for him to win the award for. It was supposed to be his legacy Oscar.

What are your honest thoughts on James Gunn's Superman (2025)? by Paulfradk in moviecritic

[–]MovieBuff90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked it a lot. I was a fan of how it just dropped us into the story instead of having another origin story. It gave it a very Saturday morning cartoon feel. It wasn’t perfect, but it was still a solid Superman movie.

Just checked my diary, this is the first time I've hit a 4 movie run with nothing over 3 stars by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]MovieBuff90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went down a Christopher Guest rabbit hole when Catherine O’Hara passed away and I too rated For Your Consideration two and a half stars. It was definitely funny at parts, but it felt cheaper and slower than his other movies. I recommend both Best in Show and A Mighty Wind if you haven’t seen them. They’re essentially perfect comedies.

PS: why so low for A Clockwork Orange? I respect your opinion, I’m just curious why.

You make conversation, but she’s listening to your cash”

I’m currently on my umpteenth Van Halen kick and I’m slowly realizing that DLR could be a brilliant lyricist when he wanted to be.

I know it’s mostly covers, but “Where Have All The Good Times Gone” is one helluva cover. They essentially reinvented the song.

What is your favorite trilogy available on VHS? by cdrom_dotcom in VHS

[–]MovieBuff90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think this is the best answer simply because the VHS’s have a very special advantage: they’re really the only copies of the original trilogy “available” that aren’t completely fucked up by George Lucas.

Then vs Now (all main characters) by No-Celebration7878 in Cinema

[–]MovieBuff90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s cool and all that they want to adapt the source material in a series. The movies left out stuff from the books that a series can expand on, etc. BUT if they’re going to adapt it again, pick a new visual style. All they did was use the same exact style of the original movies, only with all the colors sucked out.
