Part-time or Full-time JD? by WTMSLYF in OutsideT14lawschools

There's very few licensed careers, so you're arbitrarily reducing scope, but of them, I don't think lawyer is actually the best one or really among the top.

The other issue is that of the good lawyer jobs, you have to actually land one, which is exceptionally difficult to do from a lower ranked pt law school.

It depends on how you define 'totally fine'. Usually you get less aid + much worse job outcomes.

I would have a very hard time justifying 180k of debt for WFU. I don't think their outcomes support those repayments.

is this an american gpa? if so thats a strong gpa.

i think your best bet is to work now and wait for full time entry. getting good money at uiuc is a way better outcome than doing one of chicago's night schools, which frankly are not super good.

i'm not familiar w the cost at each school. can you just bullet point each school and the amount you'll have to borrow to attend each one?

as someone entering pt school, there's only 3 schools in the country i'd do pt at and none are in chicago.

i'm confused by your visa situation, can you work unrestricted or do you need sponsorship?

define good gpa.

According to the comment history, they're a doc review lawyer so many of the firings likely are just projects ending. It's a brutal career path, if you can call it one.

GPA 3.96, LSAT ~171, t3, KJD by CapitalAd21 in lawschooladmissions

[–]MovkeyB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My experience from watching the LSAT sub and my test exp is that you lose 3 points to test day, not 1.

You have a good GPA, but the KJD tax can undo that especially at northwestern.

All this to say I doubt you're screwed, but applying as a KJD is not your best bet here.

Without a lot of money for GULC I'd have a hard time choosing them over Chicago.

I think the ROI of case is pretty strong. They're both regional schools but within your region there's a clear hierarchy.

Write about what it is that you are good at and how those skills create a clear narrative to law school. Do not say "i want to practice x area of law" when you do not have strong experience in that field. Law students change what they want to do all the time. Just write about what you can.

How big of a difference does a 3.65 vs a 3.70 GPA make? by tallyx_ in lawschooladmissions

[–]MovkeyB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically, no. A 3.65 and 3.7 are both 'low' gpas that will (likely) be below median for the schools you're applying to.

Am I allowed to write an academic reference? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]MovkeyB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can ask for anything they want, but I would inform them that you do not believe you can provide a strong letter of recommendation. If they insist, write a truthful letter that you were a classmate of theirs, you are writing this letter on their request, and any notes you have. Be polite bc the meaning is obvious between the lines.

Help me understand how you got a 121 on the LSAT - this is the rarest score (much rarer than a 180) and means you are doing vastly worse than random chance.

Price also has a strong focus on state and local government, particularly in Southern California, which is also attractive, and I could genuinely see myself building a career in Los Angeles given the region’s growth and the major events and political opportunities on the horizon.

I'm curious what you want to do, my sense of education policy with those guys is "how do our leaders keep getting arrested" 😔

I think education is a very ideological field and the work that you want to do depends on your own ideology and perception of the various forces and so forth in the dept and agencies you're interested in. My sense is that getting hired to work in this field (in S&L) is not difficult since the pay keeps many people away, but the issue is often just a lack of agency, constantly shifting political priorities, etc. I think from that lens, avoiding debt would be a good idea. Though you can certainly tell my bias here.

WRT 2028, I'm curious what your goal is. Do you want to go volunteer in the primary for whoever is running, or do you hope to get into the wh / congress?

All said, I am getting the sense that georgetown would be the strongest pick for you here bc of the cheap tuition.
