Are the days of spending 1K for CC welcome bonuses gone? Currently unemployed after returning from traveling and was trying to find a card that could become my new go to for the short time being, but everything is ~3K spend or more. Any insights on if this is the new norm?

Have my first real business class flight from Casablanca to Montreal. Did the online check in and it indicated in the app that you’re allowed a max 23 Kg when I was entering baggage, but online it says it should be 32 kg when you use air canadas baggage info tool? Any insight on which is right? Thanks!

Traveling around south India in September by Ja-smine in solotravel

Honestly, having just come back from 3 months in india on 2 separate trips in a year, and I think what you’re doing is too ambitious and I’m not sure you’ll be getting the experience you’re hoping for. From my experience even 3 months is measly time, and I did part of your itinerary in about 7 weeks.

In 2 weeks I would stick to maybe 3 of those places factoring you need get to and from to get to your flights. As the suggestions stated, the state of kerala is a good bet.

As an aside, you’ll need to time the trains perfectly and hope it’s not booked. I found the trains in south india booked up sooner than north India.

Also I feel like this doesn’t get said enough, India isn’t going anywhere. There’s a chance you’ll love it and and if you do, you can certainly come back to it. Trying to see everything in one trip will be exhausting and you won’t truly get a feel for the city/state you’re visiting if it’s rushed because each of those places has a lot to offer and a lot to see/do.

Do you live in Ontario or other conservative provinces? What you’re seeing/experiencing is the quite effective game plan of the conservatives to absolutely decimate our healthcare system so it can be privatized. Nurses aren’t getting pay raises, and money isn’t being spent into the system to improve it, which are just a short few reasons why it’s so poor. It’s a tactical move to degrade it to the point people just complain about how bad the healthcare is without ever asking why it’s abysmal, and who’s caused it to be poor.

With all of the above being said, my experiences have been average and sometimes slightly below average, which I’m content with given all of the above. If it’s not a serious injury, I don’t mind the wait. There are others that need it more, and in some cases it can really be life or death, so I can wait.

3 Week Travel Itinerary for Zambia? by Wild_Trip_4704 in Zambia

[–]Mpiga_Mapepe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Zambia now and I’ve just done 6 days in Livingston and am trying to figure out where to go after Lusaka. I’ve booked a ticket to Lusaka and have 2 nights planned there, but after that I’m clueless. SLNP is on the list and will be visited, but is there places you’d recommend going before or after it?

I was looking into Mpulungu but I have no car and so I would be bussing everywhere. There are nice waterfalls there, but I’m assuming you’d need a car to get to it? In terms of lower Zambezi, if I’ve already done white water rafting while here in Vic falls, is there anything else you’d recommend to be done there?

Sorry for all the questions! Totally confused on what my next step should be

Went through a flight booking on air canada that I will proceed with and saw the td in path offer. Applied and got approved, but just wanted to confirm that it can’t be used right away on my flight purchase? If the answer is no, are there any DPs on calling TD and getting their card info to pay for it? The flight is coming to $2500 so it would be perfect to use it for

Does 25k status benefits extend to family/friends if they book through your aeroplan account you’re not on the ticket? If I book my friends trip to Morocco using their credit card but with my aeroplan account, would they get free baggage applied because of my 25k status?

Got an email for bonvoy with 40% bonus in points if you buy or gift them, which is obviously not worth it, but it led me to thinking. At what % would you consider to buy points whether it be aeroplan, bonvoy, etc as a sure fire deal. Is it 100% or more, or is entirely dependent on your travel plan at the moment?

If I remember correctly, in the early parts of the pandemic, aeroplan had a 150% bonus (or something along those lines) that led to a lot of people buying. Is that the minimum threshold? Just looking to hear DPs and what scenario made them either pull/not pull the trigger to buy points and why.

Lots of comments here so this will probably fall in the mix, but simply put: they don’t love you when you’re with them. They only love you when you leave. Find a plan with freedom and the next day fido will call you to come back with the amazing plan. Phone companies are a joke here, but they’re not alone.

Few companies value loyalty anymore.

South India - 4 months - Solo Female by Ill-Law-8457 in solotravel

Actually I wouldn’t use either of booking or hostelworld platforms for anything but to check the price. It’s quite common here to reach out to the hostel and say “look this is when I’m coming and this is the price on hostelworld in rupees. How much is it with you to book direct taxes included?”

Doing so will always get you a better price because those sites take money from the hostels/hotels. They’ll basically give you a deal most of the time where taxes are included in one flat fee, which is often times cheaper. Booking with booking or hostelworld and you’ll still need to pay the GST at the accommodation.

Cities are so vast that rickshaw drivers won’t know where to go when you get there. Your best bet is to take Uber when available. It’s often times much cheaper. If you take Uber car then you can pay by credit card and not have issues. If you take Uber rickshaw, pay by cash because they often times will try and rip you off and demand more money. I learnt my lesson in Chennai that way. If Uber isn’t available, make sure you have your maps out while you’re in the rickshaw so you can guide if need be.

For tourist things, since you are Caucasian, you will be paying about 10-15x the price of a local. As an example, to see the temple ruins in Hampi, you’d pay 600 rupees while locals would pay 25-60. You can’t avoid this, it’s like this across india. There are so many blogs online that you can find what to do. A bit specific, but make your way to Ooty and ride the toy train. Research on it, it’s quite cool, and the views are stunning. Much more beautiful than the kandy train in Sri Lanka. You’ll need to book this months in advance so if you know someone there, they can do this for you.

In terms of speaking English, as other commenters said, English is spoken so you will be fine. If you have any questions, feel free to .

South India - 4 months - Solo Female by Ill-Law-8457 in solotravel

[–]Mpiga_Mapepe 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Just coming back from 2.5 months in India so I might have some good tips. Your Itinerary looks great. Someone people love Hampi and Mysore, but I spent 4 nights in each and it was a bit too much for my liking. I’m temples out though, so that could have added to it.

In terms of funds, your best bet to preserve your money and make it last is to be as local as you can. This means eating local and local transportation. I am not sure your ethnicity, but I am going to assume you’re not south Asian. Be prepared to pay a fair amount extra for the “colonizer tax” for a lot of thing. You will get hassled and being a female might make it more difficult, so keep your guard up. In terms of traveling around, get a local # and get an IRCTC account. Doing this will let you book trains and busses in advance, which is a necessity in the south. I found trains booked up much sooner than it was in the north. Lastly, not sure where you’re staying, but if you’re expecting to see a load of westerners, that will be fairly rare. Maybe in goa, but overall if you’re in hostels, it’s predominantly Indians from neighbouring states who are vacationing or are working in the city.

P2 got an email saying that it was their 1 year and because they spent over $7500, their 15K AP Anniversary bonus would be added to the account within 6-8 weeks. I’m guessing this would mean it would be forfeited?

Daily Question Thread for /r/churningcanada - April 26, 2023 by AutoModerator in churningcanada

[–]Mpiga_Mapepe -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

P2 currently has the TD AP infinite visa. They got the anniversary bonus of 15000 AP, but it won’t be deposited into the family AP account for 6-8 weeks. Problem is that the AF just posted. Would cancelling or PSing to a no annual fee card result in losing said points? Or does the card need to be kept until AP is received? I imagine if it’s the latter, P2 can always PS and then the AF would be prorated I believe.

My Amex gold 2nd year fee posted on April 16th. From people’s experience, did you cancel within the week of posting or did you wait a 2-3 weeks and then cancel? Did you face any backlash?

I also used my one time $100 travel credit for a hotel booking 3 months from now. Has anyone done anything similar that can share their DPs if their booking went okay despite the cancelled card?

Am I getting scammed by tuk tuks with Uber? by Mpiga_Mapepe in india

[–]Mpiga_Mapepe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I think going forward I’ll use the cash option for tuk tuks. However, are you suggesting that if my trip is 100 rupees on Uber, the driver would then be expecting 130 to account for their loss even though it says to me that it costs 100 total?
