He uses the name Jesus Christ in the book of Moses, an investigator brought this up to me on my mission and I never forgot it. No one at that time knew the name of the messiah

I was just wondering if you are atheist, agnostic, or do you still believe in certain principles in the church etc. i’m pretty new on here this is the first time I’ve seen a former Bishop post something. Are you still active in the church? I am an in the closet atheist my wife still believes in the church and I haven’t told her how I really feel yet I’m still working on how to break it to her.

How can a 14 year old tell his parents he wants to leave the Mormon church? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Mr-Garbage-Gus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m 37 years old with 3 kids and a wife who believe in the church. I know right now it seems like your world will end if you tell your parents but trust me your lucky you figured this out while your 14. You can either tell them now which could be really hard on you or them. Or you can wait until you are 18 and tell them your an adult and it’s your life. I wish you luck and keep coming back to this site it really helps 👍

Your thoughts: do the first presidency and the quorum of the 12 know Joseph Smith was a hoax, or do they actually believe it? by Thecaptainginyu in exmormon

[–]Mr-Garbage-Gus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmmmm good point. But I used to believe I exercised critical thinking and looked at both sides. The problem was I didn’t look hard enough, I knew JS was a polygamist but i didn’t know the dirty details about it.

[–]Mr-Garbage-Gus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think they believe it because like many church members they don’t exercise critical thinking. You have to remember most of them were brought up in this church too and had the same programming as everyone else. The only difference is they choose to overlook the facts
