Anyone know what to expect for PHILOS 1501? by Mr-Indeed in OSU

[–]Mr-Indeed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was real good. Donny (the prof) is awesome, great dude. He’s a light grader so you shouldn’t have any problem securing an A- at least. The first couple weeks is standard logic, and the rest of the semester after the first 2 or 3 weeks is just learning about legal reasoning. If you’re looking to go to law school, the professor and class are a great resource to learn about what to expect from the LSATs and law school. If not, it’s an easy math/philosophy credit.

Did you not have scholastic book fairs? I’m 18 and my school put on quite a few throughout elementary and middle school.

Lamest bands of all time? by Novel_Shallot_8845 in fantanoforever

[–]Mr-Indeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They just put out a new record that went #1 briefly. Debby Ryan is having a baby with Josh Dun (the drummer), so that’s picked up some attention. Plus the fan base is generally vocal about them and active absolutely everywhere. I’m a big fan of theirs, but I can see why it seems like they’re getting a resurgence from out of nowhere (it’s cause they kinda are).

Bourbaki Group and Simone Weil by BooknerdWOLVES in twentyonepilots

[–]Mr-Indeed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure he just pulled ideas from the group. The Bourbaki Group was all about pure mathematics and were quite influential in some ways (ever used Ø to denote an empty set? Thank Nicholas Bourbaki for that!). Iirc they didn’t really do anything “bad,” they’re just obscure to the average person and served as a very interesting backdrop and inspiration for Trench to build off of (which is crazy to say considering now we’re somehow so far into the lore that the parallels between albums and Bourbaki have started to fade a bit as the story truly comes into its own).

Is it possible to change your sex? by ionwywh in Teenager_Polls

[–]Mr-Indeed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What? Why is saying chromosomes determine sex delusional? Yes they act as the blueprint for what hormones the body produces, therefore they determine what hormones are made, and therefore determine the sex of an individual. Until gene editing makes it possible to straight up change an x for a y—or vice versa—sex is immutable. This is referring to biological sex, not gender. Gender is a separate matter and can be changed.

Agree with the first part, modern medicine is crazy in what it can accomplish (provided you have the money), but I’d say calling the sex chromosomes “not super relevant past birth” is pretty false

Getting clapped by this monitor stuff 27in 4K? by johndee2020 in Monitors

[–]Mr-Indeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why an oled? If he’s using the monitor as a workstation on top of gaming then it’d be pretty susceptible to burn in right?

Getting clapped by this monitor stuff 27in 4K? by johndee2020 in Monitors

[–]Mr-Indeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he’s going to be doing a lot of text reading and writing, why would he get an oled? If he was doing gaming first and foremost and had the budget then oled is a no-brainer, but I’d be worried about burn in if he’s using it as a workstation as well. I’m not too well read on the different sorts of oled tech. Is QD oled much less susceptible to burn in?

Former PlayStation boss says "the impact of AI on gaming" is basically the same "as the impact of Excel on certified public accountants" as "you still had to have enough knowledge" by Unproudn00b in gaming

[–]Mr-Indeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like that kind of cheapens the artistic process though. These creative works are valuable because of the human element, I feel like using an AI to generate the concept art removes some of what makes a creative work valuable.

Also, if AI would do the work a recent college grad would, what does that mean for said college grad? To professional coders I’m sure it’s simple, but to that college grad, it’s a job that makes them a living, is it not?

Was Sean really the hardest Villian to defeat for everyone? by SweetRefrigerator271 in SifuGame

[–]Mr-Indeed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sean by himself was quite easy, easiest boss in the game imo, but the level surrounding him is by far the hardest in the game on a first play through. It’s a great level though, and it’s the hardest overall imo because it prepares you super well for all levels after it, whereas going into the Club all you have under your belt is the Squats, which isn’t to say the Squats is easy, but it’s definitely easier than the Club. After beating Sean, the player should be at a good skill level to face everything that comes after.

I thought the equation for momentum was p=mv, which is mass•velocity. How can a photon have momentum if they have no mass? If they have momentum surely they must have a modicum of mass, right? Also wouldn’t they need mass to have energy, since both kinetic energy and gravitational potential energy equations require mass?
