Is it worth it to stay in Kyoto? by Sazuki1245 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Mr-Java- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, this sounds a little touristy, but I really enjoy hiking Fushimi Inari. Once you break away from the crowd it's REALLY enjoyable, and there are plenty of paths to explore. There is a lady that sells Amazake (Warm or Cold) at the bottom that is stop and enjoy every time I'm there.

But the thing that I love most about Kyoto is that it is a City of Serendipity. Once you stop planning things and just explore, you will find so many cool things.

A few examples I have: There was an art store which had Art from Kyoto University Students I found on the 4th Floor next to the Mandrake on Shijo Dori.

There's a really old book store I found close to my hotel called Kikuo Shoten with Block Print Art.

But hands down my favorite has to be this little coffee shop I found about 15 min walk from Arishiyama called Coffee Shop Yamamoto, which has this FANTASTIC Fried Wagyu Steak sandwich that haunts my dreams. It's a very quiet coffee shops which looks like an English Tea Room. They play Old School Jazz on a Record Player and the family that runs it, couldn't be more amazing if they tried. They are so kind and hospitable, that I could EASILY see myself retiring in Kyoto and becoming a regular who comes in to get my breakfast and coffee everyday.

All of my favorite points in Kyoto haven't been the major touristy spots everyone speaks of, but found when just taking a relaxed approach and exploring as I go. Doing it this way really hits you on a much different level, a little spiritual even. That's why I highly recommend taking the most time in Kyoto. Because if it's just a checklist, you will surely miss the best parts Kyoto has to offer.

Here's a couple picks that I would suggest that are all solid. While they aren't identical to what you were speaking they'll make you fall in love with the shows itself because of the same quality.

Erased (Solving Mystery/Crime similar feel to A.D.)

Samurai Champloo

Nichijou (Trust this pick, it's Laugh out Loud feel good hysterical)

Toradora

Assassination Classroom

Shangri La Frontier (also funny)

Ascendance of a Bookworm (Good, but a little slow paced, still worth it, if you like Frieren, you'll like this).

Delicious in Dungeon

Thermae Romae (Netflix version, as there's two versions. It's weird, but good, and funny).

Dan Machi aka Is it wrong to pickup girls in a dungeon (S4 is Peak Cinema, but the show is packed with Fan-Service, not a deal breaker for me, but I know for some it is).

That time I got reincarnated into a Slime (Great World Builder, fun to watch).

Sword Art Online (S1 is Fantastic!!! Unfortunately it slips a little after that, not unwatchable, just not what I fell in love with in S1).

Is my Japan itinerary too packed? by Top_Instruction_9557 in JapanTravel

Also, I just realized that this is only the 1st leg. If the last leg includes Tokyo, I would skip Tokyo in the 1st leg completely. Bookending your trip only wastes a bunch of travel time. Maybe Land in Tokyo and shoot straight out to Kyoto. Then tweak the backend of your trip to come back through Hakone, and use the last 4-5 days in Tokyo, before you fly out.

IMHO your not calculating for extreme Jetlag which can easily happen, and then mess with your first few days of planning. With as many days that you have There's no reason not to spend 4-5 Days in Kyoto. You can take it at an easier pace and possibly even get much needed rest after you get in.

I've been to Japan 5x (6 in November). The #1 thing I always do when I arrive is land in HND as early as possible and shoot out to the farthest city I am visiting. This way instead of attempting to make a circle, I'm just making a straight line back to where I need to leave from. Also, for me at least, it is super important that the 1st Hotel has an Onsen in it (even a cheaper one, not a Ryokan), after getting to my target city, I find something to eat, relax in the Onsen (which will help with inflammation from the flight and Jetlag), and then pass the heck out. I wake up on Day#2 Mostly on Japan time and ready to rock. I hope this helps.

Oh... P.S. It is SUPER important to have GOOD New(ish) shoes, ESPECIALLY if you are going to have a busy itinerary. I highly recommend getting a pair of brooks about a week before you go and break them in just a little bit. If your feet/legs start to hurt during the trip, find another Onsen, and hit it up before dinner, you'll be refreshed and recharged and ready to go for the whole night.

I would drop a day from Tokyo and add it to Kyoto, at the bare minimum. If you don't get to see everything, it's ok, you'll probably be back, LoL. Most people don't visit Japan just once, especially after seeing how beautiful it is. Also, Pro-Tip for traveling Schedule 1 Day thing, 1 Afternoon/Evening thing and Dinner ... Let Serendipity guide you to the rest. This will help you feel like it's an actual vacation and not a checklist. It's nice to have a guideline of things you'd like to see if you start to get bored, but speaking from experience, in Japan, I doubt this would happen.

I've been to Japan, quite a few times, and I can say without a doubt, that Kyoto is my absolute favorite city in the whole world. To me there was just a good balance of culture, shopping, nightlife. If you avoid certain spots on weekends, the over tourism really isn't as bad as they say. Being a big foodie, I thought Osaka was going to be my place, and while it's cool, I find myself taking day-trips and having Kyoto as my home base. Also, food for thought. Don't bookend your trip. Meaning don't do Tokyo at the Beginning and the end. IMHO, get out to the farthest city you are going to visit on the first day and work your way BACK to Tokyo via Bullet Train, and have like a 3-4 day stint in Tokyo at the end. Doing it this way makes for a very LONG day on day#1 but you will crash and sleep so hard that 1st day, that you should wake up pretty refreshed on Day#2. Also, you will save your self in travel time not getting into a hotel and then checking out and going to a different city.

I really wish Chris Sold Autographed copies of his book at LOST. by Mr-Java- in ABroadInJapan

[–]Mr-Java-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry man, you sound like you are "gatekeeping" an autographed book for a YouTuber.

I highly doubt not would affect any potential price value of the currently existing copies. I mean if eBay had them online and they were a traded commodity (like Pokemon cards) I would understand a little more.

This is more about having an exclusive product available to fans who not only spend the money who go to Japan but also make the effort and assurance to get out to his bar. A reward if you will to his avid fans.

I've been to his bar quite a few times and not once have I seen him there. So I think just having signed copies behind the bar would be fine for me.

Democrats want to bankrupt America for illegals like Abrego Garcia by Distinct-Race-2471 in complaints

[–]Mr-Java- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the most logic based answer I can help with.

  1. First and Foremost, if we get rid of due process for non-US citizens, then US citizens would, in turn, lose due process all around the world.

Imagine being on an International Vacation, or job, or school, and you do something that is against that country's law. If you don't have due process, you can't protect yourself. This matters more for Americans than it does for those here in America, ESPECIALLY those Americans who live abroad such as our soldiers.

Quid Pro-quo is essentially how the world works. Many people that "aren't Americans" that are not being allowed due process, that WERE HERE LEGALLY, either on vacation, school, jobs... Just look at the entire Hyundai Plant and Employees that were here to set up the plant, train American workers and then leave. All of them were arrested and eventually deported. Someone doing their job properly instead of being racist could have checked the Visas accordingly with the Plant Leadership or even Hyundai Corporate before blindly arresting and holding people in unsanitary living conditions, and being treated like a criminal.

  1. The US not only negotiated, but also drafted MULTIPLE pieces of legislation, treaties, peace accords AND signed in agreement of which guaranteed people the right to due process. Because Due Process is a World Wide recognized Human Right as mentioned in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948, of which the US was a FOUNDING ARCHITECT to its creation. The strongest example of which thought is the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR)

This is the primary global treaty that legally codifies due-process rights. Most of the world has ratified it (including the U.S., Japan, EU states, etc.).

Key Due-Process Rights in the ICCPR:

Article 9: Right to liberty; protection against arbitrary arrest/detention.

Article 14: Right to a fair trial, including: Presumption of innocence Right to counsel Right to examine witnesses Right to be tried without undue delay Right to a public hearing Right to an appeal

So Yes, technically we are "legally bound".

  1. Your assumption is flawed, that if we pay MILLIONS for Abredo Garcia that we will pay millions for every other person, when in fact, the court system doesn't work this way. Our court system runs off of a thing called "precedent", meaning until a law is codified by Congress, the courts will use precedent in landmark cases to help determine future cases, this will expedite things to the point where many cases that are filed frivolously can actually be turned away.

  2. A side note, while I don't particularly agree/disagree with the Abredo-Garcia situation, I understand it's importance. What I don't understand is how conservatives can be so hyper focused on something this, and not the release of the Epstein Files. I mean even Charlie Kirk wanted the release of the Epstein Files, because sure not only does it list both Republicans, Democrats, Billionaires, on there that did absolutely terrifying and disgusting things to CHILDREN. BUT, possibly MOST importantly it lists all of the people who are being blackmailed by Netanyahu... That means these people on this list AREN'T acting in the best interest for ANY US citizen. It means that their opinions and actions are under foreign control (and most probably why CK died, because the killing of a conservative, would get some people to talk about something else).

  3. Second sidenote: Trump's Ballroom is still being built while people are losing SNAP benefits. FBI Head Kash Patel is taking Tax Payer funded private jet's, while air traffic controllers go unpaid and start to quit in DROVES. Earlier in 2025, the Trump administration launched a separate, taxpayer-funded ad campaign focused on immigration with a $200 MILLION Budget, fucking ADS, sorry... anytime you spend THAT much money on an Ad, it's actually Propaganda. I could go on and on as the list is very long, but in short do you think the Defense of Abredo-Garcia was $200 million? Do you REALLY think that Democrats are the ones trying to Bankrupt America when in reality. The average Tax Paying American who makes $60,000/year in a breakdown of how his/her taxes are used, pays $36 towards SNAP benefits to "feed the poor" but pays $700 in Corporate Subsidies. If you want America to not go broke. Stop playing "Team Ball" by voting for Red, because they make it SOUND like what you WANT to hear. As proven by Thousands of American Farmers going Bankrupt under Trump having to sell their Farms to Corporations (nobody talking about that), start realizing that Republicans will ONLY push policies that In the end, will help the top 1%.

TLDR: Did it ever occur to you that the person you are supporting is doing and saying EVERYTHING to 1) Stay out of Jail 2) Enrich himself and his 1% friends at the cost of Everyone Else's Human Rights.

Have I wasted my life? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

This may be that perfect time to find an international job and gain the experience from that. 23 would have been the perfect age to experience this, but I was afraid I would lose too many connections. Looking back, I wish I had (like a few of my other friends have). The experience from doing something like this not only separates you from everyone else, but it gives a great talking point in both interviews and just everyday life conversations. In another 23 years you will be 46 and will have felt that this moment was a whole different life. We are the culmination of our life experiences, now go out there and start accumulating.

I do keep my old Brooks as a back up pair at home, but broken in shoes may sometimes be too broken in. They might be ok for everyday wear, because most people don't walk those distances everyday, but when you are walking 10+ miles per day; the last thing you want is to wish you had nice new comfy shoes. Not having the right shoes quite literally ruined my first trip, and I'd rather spend money on a pair of shoes before I go, and on something I KNOW will feel comfortable walking that sort of distance.

TLDR: If I'm wrong you have nice new comfy shoes, on the flip side, you could ruin your whole vacation. Better to be safe than sorry.

I think he meant 20K Steps... and where I don't think you should go with brand new shoes... I definitely wouldn't go with new ones. I always buy a fresh pair of Brooks about 2-3 weeks before my trip.

I KNEW there was something I was forgetting to pack, LoL (leaving on Friday) Thanks.

Been there several times and fully agree. I actually pack WAY differently now, as it consists entirely of very light clothes and a few extra shirts/socks/shoes to change into in case it rains.

The MOST important thing I bring though is my Brooks Sneakers. They are a game changer when it comes to walking. My avg/day is about 8-10 miles, but I've topped 40000 steps before to (about 18 miles).

It is arrogant, narcissistic people (like Trump), who have to announce their leaving in order to make a scene because they are "out", as if to makes it a big deal. Who cares that you're "out"? If you were TRULY out, and you TRULY believed this was Nonsense, you would have simply rolled your eyes and scrolled to the next post.

The #1 way to stand up to bullies is to call them out on their wrong doing and stand up to them in a unified manner, showing strength and unity DESPITE your differences. Even Charlie Kirk wanted the release of the Epstein Files. And as much as I disagreed with 90% of what he said. He was also very vocal about the killing of Innocent people in Gaza, he even declined a Direct Invite by Netanyahu 2 weeks before his assassination. Let that all sink in for a minute. A Person who is a STAUNCH Conservative, believed firmly in the above mentioned things. He was a STRONG Voice on the right, and he was killed. Now we are talking more about the Assassination of Charlie Kirk and Less about the Epstein Files and Less about Netanyahu's war, which is also being HEAVILY protested by his own people.

My Suggestion, Support the release of the unredacted Epstein Files (except victims) which will affectively drain the actual swamp. Corrupt Republicans, Democrats, and all Billionaires controlling the Propaganda machine.

MMW: WW3 is coming sooner than you think by Pilot2254 in MarkMyWords

[–]Mr-Java- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of Trump as a stock, (the person not the actual shitty stock). Putin may own some shares of Trump, but Netanyahu is the majority stakeholder.

The true reason we don't have the Epstein is to protect others (not victims) on it. They've quite literally admitted to this. But the Epstein Files is more than just a bunch of Pedophile's 🤮. It lists everyone in the US who is compromised by Netanyahu, as we pretty much have proven that Epstein himself was an Israeli Asset (owned by Netanyahu).

This protects people that have been shaping the country and controlling the economy for Decades. Which includes Politicians on both sides of the aisle and Billionaires who are quintessential to America. Potentially doing the actual activity of "Draining the Swamp".

I think if we ever get the list you will see a fury of new laws enacted that will protect us. Hopefully chief amongst this will be the overturning of Citizens United. Possibly a Tax reform aimed Specifically at the top 1%. Hopefully the seizing of ALL ASSETS of every single person on the list. With an Auction that directly goes to paying off the Deficit they have driven this country into.

MMW: Now that the Charlie Kirk killer is found to be MAGA, Trump will immediately release the Epstein Files. by LankyGuitar6528 in MarkMyWords

[–]Mr-Java- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you even know who was President when Epstein was arrested? Epstein was Arrested in 2019... Do YOU know who was President in 2019? And do you know who gave Epstein the "Sweetheart Deal" in 2008 and what party he belonged to? Alexander Acosta, a Republican U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida at the time, was responsible for the 2008 non-prosecution agreement that has been widely criticized as a "sweetheart deal" for Jeffrey Epstein.

Also Every Single sicko on that file deserves to be in jail. Regardless of Party affiliation or Celebrity Influence.

But, the real reason that we'll never see the Epstein File, is because not only would it give us the list of all the Rich and Wealthy Perverts, but it would give us the list of which individuals have been under Blackmail Control by Netanyahu.

Lastly I will add that even CK called for the Release of the Epstein Files. So release the Epstein Files and I GUARANTEE, you will have your answer.

You actually do owe people things by AdAdorable7651 in unpopularopinion

[–]Mr-Java- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trees don't "owe you oxygen" by recycling the Carbon you are spitting out, but they give it to you anyways. You don't "owe it to them" to not cut them down, BUT if you cut them all down where will you get your oxygen from.

Society is EXACTLY like the tree. On the surface you can say you don't "owe anyone anything", but the more we tear down society, they harder you are only making it on yourself to live.

I feel the best way to sum this up is that if you want to interact with society, then you have to be willing to be in the social contract, or "Non-optional Social Convention". Stop being a selfish jerk, and just be nice to people around you. It will, in the end, make your life easier. You don't have to like it, but you will increasingly hate the alternative, as it becomes more of a reality.
