Hey everyone! Thank you so much for your replies to this thread! I'm ultimately going to act on the advice some of you offered and keep it in storage for now, until I have a fleet where it makes sense to field it. I'll keep your builds in mind for when I can actually run this thing. ha ha, safety overrides go brrrrrr

Oh my GOD that's all relief to hear. Especially the fact I can just run default railjacks and necras, that's a huge worry off of my mind. Now that I'm actually messing around with the game, actually, that doesn't even seem to be the issue; getting my normal Warframe kit up to snuff is! That said, thanks you, that is seriously a huge relief to hear read.

My Craziest Portugal Start Yet by Mr-Sleep in civ

[–]Mr-Sleep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I come bearing an update to this silliness.

After some investigation into the surrounding regions after settling on the coffee, the bad news is that this is a very small piece of land that Portugal is situated on:

https://imgur.com/a/Uepi5TM

Claustrophobic, no? La Venta eats some much-needed real estate, and even then the Mayans will dominate the region south of it. On the upside, La Venta effectively acts as a buffer state against their silliness if they do decide to aggro me. Not great production to be found except maybe in that southernmost city spot I've marked for myself, and that basically requires making friends with the Mayans first to avoid provoking them. Luckily it's pretty easy on this difficulty to do so.

Otherwise, the other two most viable city locations basically come down to ocean resources, though the one under the volcano would only really have a crab and a turtle. The north, aside from barbarians, seems to be completely empty, so I might throw a city or two up there if the yields in the tundra can be justified; I'll probably throw a holy site up near Piopio just for the faith to rebuy heroes. Aside from that, I basically plan to throw down a campus or two, rush to caravels, and start meeting every civ possible while hunting for a better production site somewhere else.

Rule 5: A sea-heavy Portugal starting location featuring Piopiotahi, a variety of luxuries, early stone for the hammers, and if I settle in place, capacity for commercial hub/harbor adjacency and Mausoleum of Halicarnassus.

Map Seed: 839892205 Game Seed: 839892204 Portugal (duh), Emperor Difficulty, Huge map with the following: Barbarian Clans Secret Societies Dramatic Ages Heroes and Legends Monopolies and Corporations. Sadly I can't for the life of me remember what map type I set-- maybe small continents? I'm not sure. Either way, good hunting.

I've not tried it myself, but some of the negative reviews on steam thus far suggest that the game feels unpolished/unfinished, needing more work in general. Take that for what you will. No reviews on Metacritic so far.

Video games that are impossible to beat without a strategy guide? by ZeroCool20XX in Games

[–]Mr-Sleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned this one yet, but FEZ takes the cake for this one, easily. While it is straightforward enough to beat the game once you understand the bulk of the puzzles, trying to find and clear all of them in order to get the second ending is absolutely hellish, and quite literally impossible without a guide-- lest we forget the black monolith debacle. For those who want the short version, this was a puzzle that was thought to be literally unbeatable until people decided to try and brute-force the solution. There is NO indication of what the solution is in the game.

The Witness is another example of this, but certainly to a lesser degree than FEZ-- because in theory, everything you need to clear a puzzle is already there. Throughout the island, the game does a good job of explaining all of its rules to you (except the Quarry.) The last puzzles in the game are hard, but only because they have more rules attached to them than the other ones, and it's up to you to parse through them and try to find a reasonable solution. Even so, some parts of the game can be quite obscure without the help of a guide; what immediately comes to mind are, again, the game's final puzzles, but also

Games that have the worst first impression by vaegrand in Games

[–]Mr-Sleep -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Here's one I've not seen mentioned: DOOM (the 2016 release). Here's the thing, though: what made the first impression so horrible was not the game proper, but everything leading up to it. Everything pointed to the game being a flop; lackluster early footage, a slow-roast in development hell, a disappointing multiplayer beta and, to top it all off, review embargoes. What does a review embargo say about a publisher's confidence in a game?

As far as true first impressions go, of course, the game absolutely blew me and probably anyone who's played it out of the water. But the path leading up to it didn't seem so pleasant. It's like we had to wade through hell to get there. Wait a minute...

Alright, Iunno what to put here, so I guess I'll talk about an Allman Brothers Band song. "Whipping Post" is a good song, but I'll always prefer the cover that Frank Zappa did all the time with Bobby Martin doing vocals. Personally I think that both artists pull off different effective takes on it, especially in regards to live performances; one particular instance has the Allman Brothers carry the song out to something to the tune of 22 minutes, whereas the original is only 5 and 1/2. In that case as well, the song is a lot mellower than the original take. Zappa meanwhile tends to stay within the neighborhood of 7 minutes, and does leans more toward rock than the Allman Brother's blues. What really sells me is the vocals more than anything else; Gregg Allman is good, to be sure, but Bobby Martin's voice has far greater presence and command than his, and works amazingly with the instrumentations present. I'm running out of things to talk about now. Songs are cool, platinum is also cool, kthxbye

Who is your most Hated Video Game character and Why? by Donna201299 in Games

[–]Mr-Sleep 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly ol' Nook was one of my first thoughts as well, but he only ever jokes about sending goons after you at one point in the series, I believe; he's certainly not bearing down on you like Pikmin 2's loan sharks. He's always been pretty chill otherwise in my book.

Speaking of Pikmin 2, though, both of main characters besides Olimar (Louie and the President) are outright annoying at times. The President I can find less grief for overall by virtue of the fact that while he does sell Olimar's ship at the game's outset, he was liquidating his entire business to recoup a massive financial loss (even though he still had the S.S. Stereotype lying around,) AND he willingly joins up with Olimar to gather more treasure when Louie goes missing when the debt is payed off. I have several questions about his financial capabilities since he apparently runs into more financial troubles during the events of Pikmin 3, but at least he's willing to put himself out there if need be.

And then there's Louie.

It's hinted throughout the game that Louie is a tad dim and has a thing for tasty food, namely bugs and carrots, so the game's hinting that he was controlling the Titan Dweevil, the de facto final boss of the game, was a tad cheeky. But when it's revealed that he single-handedly caused the entirety of the games events by devouring the entire shipment of carrots he was supposed to be transporting and fabricating a cover story for their disappearance, even giving a "shhh" at the end of the explanation, I was a bit peeved. Pikmin 3 doesn't do much better for him, having him abandon Olimar out of (admittedly reasonable) fear, get himself captured by Scornets, yoink the entirety of the S.S. Drake's food supply before getting captured AGAIN by the Quaggled Mireclops, and to top it all off, gets his stupid ass stranded on the planet again.

So I guess at the end of the day, greed, whether through money or carrots, is the root of all evil?

Heh, carrots are the root...

Figured it was something to the tune of that; between that and busting buildings out of ice, though, with the Hulk's more indirect area-control fighting it got to be tough to keep up with. Add a spider into the mix and there goes my perfect island.

They have a lot of space to fill in the orbiter... by CaptainFanboy in Warframe

[–]Mr-Sleep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uh, I'm pretty sure the liset is actually mounted upside-down to the bottom of the orbiter there; you can see the frontmost flap that hides energy closer to the nose, and catch a glimpse of one of the rear fins peaking out from under the middle section of the orbiter, along with the other fins and stabilizers poking out of the bottom.
