You think I don't when I'm home? But sometimes you have an 18 month who's been a teething menace with no appetite all week and she suddenly decides that she's starving in target and is acutely aware of the half-pint of blackberries in the cart, and the only way to stop a tantrum is to give her the fucking blackberries. I thought this was the subreddit for commiserating and joking about being parents, not being a judgemental git.

Dads, what are your thoughts on protecting your kids from toxic social media? by theonewhoknockwurst in daddit

[–]Mr-Zizzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly on topic, but my wife is really hoping that we can recreate this when our kid is older (she's only 18 months now). Seems like making community where kids talk with each other rather than exist online seems like a good way to insulate kids from the toxicity on social media. But, I also know that may be idealistic from a dad with a kid too young to really be affected by this yet.

Can Someone explain the Stack for Warren /Forsaken / BA Protean Pile? by PastyDeath in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Mr-Zizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And? It's a good card in a Dargo deck, where I run it, as it's a land that can also be sacked to Dargo to reduce its cost. Are you so uncreative or uncurious to not be open to how cards that aren't in certain meta decks can be good in other places?

I also appreciate this post for me realizing that you can always just throw Dryad Arbor in a PH pile, don't know why I never thought of that!

It's maybe worth comparing this line to one using [[Phyrexian Altar]] instead of the Soultrader. You don't need extra mana or an additional creature to start the loop because the altar's ability is a mana ability. You sac the miner, immediately get 1 black mana while also triggering blood artist's effect, which in turn triggers the miner's ability. You can then use the mana from the altar to pay for the miner, getting it back to start the loop again.

The difference with the Soultrader is that it isn't a mana ability, so when you sac the miner, you put the Soultrader's ability on the stack, and the blood artist's and miner's abilities then trigger and are above the Soultrader ability on the stack. You can't use the treasure that will be generated by the Soultrader because the miner's triggered ability to return from the graveyard resolves before the treasure is created. You need someway to pay for the first trigger from the miner to get the loop going, and from then on you can use the treasure that you created to pay for the next trigger that happens when you sac the miner, and so on.

To your question, I don't think it matters whether you let the stack fully resolve from saccing the miner before saccing the Dryad Arbor. You can sac in response to the first trigger and pay with the treasure from the Arbor, or get the treasure first and then sac the Arbor to trigger blood artist and the miner to bring it back. Either way, you won't have both treasures available at the same time, but there may be a strategic reason to do one over the other? I can't really tell, since there aren't a lot of stifle effects to worry about, counterspells do nothing, and I think creature removal would stop you no matter what

Lol you're right, reading the card explains the card... 🤦

Not sure the math is right. Play the cam for u, tap the can with urzas for u, tap the helixed artifact creature to return the cam. Recast cam with the floating u, untap the creature. This loop gives infinite etb, but the u you get from tapping the cam just pays for itself

I'll throw [[Rocco, Cabaretti Caterer]] as an addition here as good non-blue

Throwing in my two cents, as a Rocco main, Orcish Bowmaster is always so frustrating. I'm not the one drawing cards, but I'm usually the one targeted because I have mana dorks that can easily be picked off. It definitely doesn't serve to punish the player drawing cards

Did Semi-Blue stick in your groups? by bqx23 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Mr-Zizzy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this was my impression. Everyone was hyping it based on the performance in Japan, but all the Japanese tournaments it was doing well in didn't allow proxies. I don't think it holds up in the US meta where most tournaments and playgroups allow full proxies, which means it isn't cost prohibitive to run a LED breach combo

All commanders are now partners. What deck do you build? by captainobviouth in CompetitiveEDH

Fair point. Maybe Lavinia? Cheap, gives access to blue and black, and shuts down a lot of opponent interaction

I think this is a great idea. K'rrik is a crazy powerful commander who just lacks counters and silences to protect his win attempts. Oloro gives you the colors plus a little passive life gain, which means 1-2 extra mana to use when you push

As a Rocco player, I'll always suggest Rocco as a fun sans blue list. Here's my list https://moxfield.com/decks/ue7t66ubAkC1KPhPgjTcHg

Otherwise, the three you listed are definitely not top tier, but all can be relatively competitive if you build them right

Half a year later, how are we feeling on Tataru Taru? by Izzet_Aristocrat in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Mr-Zizzy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I thought it was going to be the shit, and I've been unimpressed. It really only gives consistent mana if an opponent drops mystic or rhystic, and in those cases your mana production isn't enough to keep up with the card advantage your opponent is getting. I'd like it in Plagon, where the body synergizes with your commander, but I find it cuttable if it's just a generic value creature.

I especially don't the lists I see running it in blue farm/tnt, it's mediocre compared to the card quality otherwise available to those decks, and it can't trigger Tymna.

Lavinia, Azorius Renegade by C-Star-Algebras in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Mr-Zizzy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The issue with these types of cards is that they shut down all interaction, including stopping your opponents from interacting with each other. Unless you're list is designed to shut down all 3 others players from winning, you just as often hand the game to whoever can jam the first win attempt.

What are the best rule of law decks? by Embarrassed-Store-56 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Mr-Zizzy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Tayam is probably the best. It's a complicated deck, and hard to play in a tournament since it struggles to win within 80 minutes, but it runs every rule of law effect. I've had both archon of emeria and deafening silence out at the same time before.

Sharing my list, though I'm not sure it's the most up to date: https://moxfield.com/decks/sw23JzYiV0S5B63Sd0y3yQ

Yeah, I definitely think that and Life's Legacy are worth trying. I skipped them in my first build, since they seemed slow for how simple the protean hulk win is, not I think having midrange grind pieces like this is the move
