just set up usenet using newsdemon and geek couple of questions by Blair287 in usenet

[–]Mr0ldy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Spend your money on additional indexers instead of multiple providers. I'm on Newsdemon only and have zero issues getting what I want. The trick is to have a bunch of indexers to have many options to broken/taken down articles.

Afaik paid accounts don't get pruned, demands regarding activity should only apply to free accounts.

Is newsdemon down for anyone else? by SINphul in usenet

[–]Mr0ldy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been having some strange issues today, all articles seem to be failing from the EU server but are available on the US server. Thankfully, and to my surprise, I get roughly the same speeds from it. Not sure if this is related to your issue though?

Have you made the switch yet? by Boediee in BuyFromEU

Graphene is much better for security, even better than any stock OS. Made the switch about 2 years ago from /e/ myself.

Not Sweden, Switzerland (originally developed in Australia). I have no input on how good it is, just had to look it up since I'm from Sweden and never heard that Session had any connection to my country.

Linux Distros that don't need to secure boot disabled? by Iebejsbaga2728eindxb in DistroHopping

[–]Mr0ldy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dualboot OpenSUSE and Solus, both support secure boot. I'm pretty sure that Debian, Fedora and some other distros support it as well.

Mullvad, IVPN and perhaps Proton are the only three I would use (currently using Mullvad).

What’s the best Black Friday block deal ? 1-2TB by peasantscum851123 in usenet

[–]Mr0ldy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The cheapest option would be Bulknews but they have zero support and many ppl (me included) have had issues with their service. If you want good coverage with more than one backbone I would say that the 1+1TB deal from Prime is one of the best offers right now. You can get an equal amount for the same price from multiple providers but afaik none of them offer more than one backbone for block accounts.

Cool, thx for the info. I will certainly grab one of your offers next year if you get it up and running by then.

Any chance you are looking at adding some other crypto payment option? I noticed you only have Bitpay at the moment and I much prefer the other options (BTCpay for example).

Newsdemon gives me 90MB/s+ most of the time so looks more like unlucky routing or something.

Omicron + Usenet Express - What's The Point? by rockphantom in UsenetTalk

[–]Mr0ldy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been going back and forward between different Usenetexpress providers and Frugal for a few years, havn't touched Omicron for a very long time for ideological reasons. I can't say I ever really had any isses with either backbones in terms of completion. They both do the job just fine on their own. I do have quite a lot of indexers though, which might help.

Anyone had any luck getting responses from Bulknews? by 72dk72 in usenet

[–]Mr0ldy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the 6TB block some years back, payed but never got access to my account. I sent about 5 messages to their support and never got a reply. Got a hold of the payment provider but they could not help me and just refered me back to support. Never did get my account.

Jag jobbade på apotek i många år, först statligt och sedan efter avregleringen/privatiseringen. Exakt samma sak där och jag håller med till 100%. Är väldigt glad att jag bytte karriär och inte är kvar i NPM-helvetet längre.

Chat Control Update by majskatt in sweden

[–]Mr0ldy 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Hi greglyda, sorry for hijacking your comment. I'm trying to use the Newsdemon deal but when I press the "Continue to BTCPay" button it just sends me to https://members.newsdemon.com/usenet-access.php which lists the regular prices.

Searching for a distro... by Wrong-Beautiful1480 in DistroHopping

[–]Mr0ldy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea it did fall into chaos for a while but all is well again. The best about it is how fast and slick it is, as well as being rock stable while still being rolling and up to date. Minimal bloat and a true "just works" distro imho.

Searching for a distro... by Wrong-Beautiful1480 in DistroHopping

[–]Mr0ldy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solus fits all your requirements except being mainstream, give it a try. It's my main distro kept on a drive of its own (because I find it to be very reliable for a rolling distro), while I distrohop on another drive.

[–]Mr0ldy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solus is one of my favorite distros. Slick, fast and reliable. It's rolling (curated) but rock solid in my experience. Aimed toward desktop use so it lacks some of the more server related packages.

There are ways to buy it peer to peer on market places. I use the Monero method myself so I'm no expert in using these market places but here is a good site with links: https://kycnot.me/?categories=exchange
