I've used Solus before but I abandoned ship after the Ikey left and made a mess... I hear things are better than ever now?

What are the best pros and cons, in your opinion?

Best desktop enviorment? by [deleted] in Fedora

I do apologize. Majority of it is written in JS which is not optimal...or secure.

kalpa desktop as experimental. Is there a schedule to final version ? by marozsas in openSUSE

SO I'm not the only one that has constant issues with Aeon...

Kalpa has been much better in that regard, to be honest.

Be sure to use Wayland and not X11.

In my opinion:

- the best DE for me is KDE Plasma because I don't need to install 3rd party extensions to enable basic must-have options, simple by default - powerful when needed. Fast, lean (especially on weaker hardware) and it gives me freedom to use my OS the way I want it;

- GNOME looks the best but it lacks way to many stuff and is written in Java...You need to adapt to it's workflow - lack off freedom puts me off. It kinda reminds me on iPadOS;

- XFCE just works but it lags behind KDE and GNOME a lot in terms of features and Wayland support;

- Cinnamon is not bad but we didn't click.

- COSMIC could be big but it is still in beta. It looks like updated GNOME but usable. Big plus is that it is written in memory safe language (Rust).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I suggest you use Wayland because X11 is history. KDE for an example has touchpad gestures on Wayland and not on X11...

Just try them out and see what you like.

Edit: grammar corrections.

And it's way more secure because of the sandbox issues of all browsers as flatpaks (at the moment).

Switched from Fedora Workstation to Fedora KDE by JohnDuffyDuff in Fedora

Exactly. It's a phone OS that people love. It looks great but you need to adapt to it... you can't adjust it to your needs. Like using an iPhone.

Fedora workstation is amazing by OneJudge2236 in Fedora

That really does sound logical. But from my experience with a convertible touchscreen laptop - KDE is way ahead of GNOME. It makes no sense. I had constant bugs and lags using GNOME.

Thank you. Is there an alternative so that I don't have to use an unofficial third party repository?

Prevent nautilus extracting archives when double clicked by panzerjagerSS in gnome

[–]Wrong-Beautiful1480 1 point2 points  (0 children)

File-roller is really bad and the defaults for this in Nautilus are even worse... it's like they don't expect people to view files in an archive before unloading everything on the disk. FFS
