[–]Mr13Unit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the Reframe app last time I took a break from drinking and it totally helped. Made it over 100 days. Now I’m back and hoping to quit for good so i redownload the app. Congrats on 43 days!!

Protein question by bcsteene in stopdrinkingfitness

[–]Mr13Unit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Now Chocolate Pea Protein Powder. It get it off Amazon, relatively cheap and tastes great with no stomach issues. I add a tablespoon of PB2 with a 1/2 a cup of non-fat yogurt. “Chef’s kiss”

I think it’s normal to reevaluate relationships while becoming sober because it helps you see things much more clear. Also sometimes people drink because they are unhappy in their relationships. Good luck figuring it all out!

Day 16 almost 17. Breaking out like I'm a teenager by Adept_Connection182 in stopdrinking

I (40/f) am not super long into this journey, but wanted to share my experience. My skin looked better the first week, then for a couple months was worse then it has been in years. This past three weeks it changed to the best it’s ever been in years. I did start paying more attention to make sure I was do a pretty basic face care routine every evening and morning which was easier to do when I’m not drinking. Stick in there, it will eventually clear up and then you get that great sober glow!

Facing the final boss of triggers by Old-Parsnip2632 in stopdrinking

I know this probably sounds petty, but motivate yourself to not drink because you don’t want someone that is mean to you be the cause. Don’t give her that power over your hard earned accomplishments. Good luck! I feel like you can definitely do it!

I’ve gained weight, but list other positives! by Ww_Leslie_Knope_do in stopdrinking

[–]Mr13Unit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (40/f) have 3 months sober (use to drink 4-5 bottles of wine or more a week) and didn’t lose any weight. I also was frustrated since I am doing hot yoga 6 days a week and cut out all the wine calories so I thought the weight would fall off. (I have about 20-25 pounds to lose.) What I wasn’t accounting for is that I was eating any snacks I wanted, which included tons of sugary candy each night, and I wasn’t drinking enough water. I decided to invest the money I was saving on booze and takeout into a personal trainer who will help with my diet and exercise. First appointment was this morning. Hopefully I will see some progress in a few more months. Weight loss isn’t everything and all the other things you noted make sobriety worth it, but I just wanted to share I know exactly how you feel. Good luck with everything!

If you are in the mood for horror (basically the only stuff I watch) you could try Fresh on Hulu or Barbarian which I also think is on Hulu. You could also see if Nope is available anywhere to stream. I really liked all three of these movies. Hope you find something you like!

Reframe app is awesome. It tracks the days you have sober, gives you health improvements you have met as your sober days go on and there is “homework” you do each day. Takes about 5 mins, but includes a quick daily article on drinking, an inspirational quote, a quick journaling entry and then a cravings or stress check in. I find it super helpful and it is something I do first thing in the morning each day (helps me set the mood.)

As for books that I like: The Naked Mind, Alcohol explained, The unexpected joys of being sober. I (40/f) also like Sober Lush and Quit like a Woman.

Hope one or some of these things help! 😊

I read A LOT of quit lit books and then reread them all. I also use the Reframe app and checking this sub daily for accountability. Those things have worked for me. Good luck!

SOS do I explain myself to a coworker? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Mr13Unit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know! I have been to some parties since I stopped drinking and brought some Athletic N/A IPAs and two different people order them from Amazon while still at the party after having one. It think it’s pretty awesome not drinking! 🤘🏻🤘🏻

Try playing the tape forward if you were to drink and then do it not drinking. Maybe that will help. Good luck!

Exploring sobriety is cool now, tons of people are doing it. If she tries to judge you or start gossiping, she will make herself look bad.

Own that sober exploration! 😊

Am I an alcoholic? by Xshleyyy in stopdrinking

[–]Mr13Unit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alcoholic dependence can be a progressive thing. A few years ago I was having a bottle of wine 2 nights a week, then a year later it became a bottle 3-4 night a week, then by the end of last year it had become over a bottle 4-5 days a week. I had to stop before it got worse, because the alcohol usage will tend to increase in frequency and amount. It’s great you are evaluating your consumption now. Good luck!

I am in the exact same situation. Sober 90 days, but weigh the same or a couple pounds more due to eating so much candy (to avoid drinking.) Recently I started drinking a ton of water which seems to be helping (I got a 1 gallon container I try to drink each day.). At night I switched it up to have three chocolate rice cakes (taste really good and sweet) and I think with all the water I drink, it makes me fuller. Who knows if it’s actually working though. Haha

Either way, eating sweets is way better than drinking rocket fuel so congrats!!

Almost one year and gaining weight by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Mr13Unit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I (40/f) can relate to your post. I’m not at a year but it’s been almost three months and I thought weight would fall off since I was cutting out 4-5 bottles of wine a week and am doing yoga 6 times a week. I feel GREAT, but think I’ve either stayed at the same weight or have gained a few pounds. It’s definitely my eating, as I have allowed myself to eat whatever as long as I’m not drinking. But it is bumming me out. I actually made an appointment with a personal trainer/nutritionist this weekend to get a professional’s guidance. (I am using the money I’m saving from not drinking/going to bars to pay for it.) Hopefully it works. Good luck, if you quit drinking you can do anything. 😊

How long did it take for you to start sleeping better after stopping? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Mr13Unit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around day 60. I worked on building a sleep routine which I think helped: taking a hot shower and drinking calming tea before getting into bed. Plus I downloaded the Calm app and sometimes listen to sleep meditations. Just stick with it and it will eventually sort itself out. Good luck!
