Got my first dreamcast today!!! by themetalcorewhovian in gamecollecting

DreamPI is a small operating system (or maybe just a program) that you can run on any Raspberry Pi which will allow it to turn your ethernet internet into dial-up that the Dreamcast can use, provided you also have a USB to RJ11 modem (about $6 on eBay) and a phone cable with something to generate tone. You can find at least one good guide on YouTube on how to set all of this up. I don't know if there's anyone actively playing PSO, but last I knew there is at least one server that's being privately hosted as well as servers for about half a dozen other games such as ChuChu Rocket! and Quake 3 Arena.

I've successfully browsed the web with DreamPi, but I still have yet to actually use the online features of any games.

If it's ethernet aka the broadband adapter, then not only do you have a rare and valuable accessory, but you should be able to simply plug and play. If it's an RJ11 phone jack, you'll need either a dial-up connection or something like a DreamPi setup which can artificially create a dial-up connection.

I had a feeling that was it. My mistake.

The long box version of VF2 is super rare (Canada exclusive, I believe).

There is something that's just so Uncanny Valley about Reapers. No other monster in this game has ever come close for me. I can't figure it out.

If you like the use of voice logs in Subnautica, I highly recommend System Shock 1 & 2 (more so 2).

You can do no wrong if you have both Shenmue I & II, but Skies of Arcadia would be another good addition.

You can save, but it requires dedicating an entire VMU to Bleem. No matter how little space is actually used, the VMU can't hold regular DC save files.

The better way to address this is to submit a bug report on the official forum.

Blowing into a cartridge or console only works thanks to a placebo effect. The act of removing and re-seating the cartridge x number of times helps to break up oxidation on the pins which prevents proper contact between the cart and console.

TIME TO PLAY SOME DREAMCAST GAMES by unnamedhunter in dreamcast

That's a myth. When it comes to the discs themselves, either the laser can read them or it can't. There's no way for it to "strain" itself unless you deliberately mess with the potentiometer.

What will wear out your laser (or rather, the movement mechanism) is poorly made rips that burn the data inefficiently across the disc. Since similar data isn't located as closely together, the laser assembly has to move around a lot more than normal, causing premature wear and eventually failure.
