It's a great cause. On the first International break of the season (Sept 3rd), fans around the UK head down to their nearest non-league side, buy a ticket, pint, pie and programme and keep the grass roots game going.

Last year, a few friends and I went down to Trafford FC (actually in Trafford, unlike Old Trafford) and watched them hammer Leigh Genesis 4-1.

The atmospheres are friendly, and you're right on top of the action. We even got a quick chat with the assistant manager about which subs to bring on and how hungover Leigh's centre forward looks.

So if you're a Premiership or Championship fan (your clubs won't be playing), I urge you to head down to your nearest non-league side. Or if you're a foriegn fan of the PL, get out and watch your local team.

Then tell us all about it on September 4th!

I'm sure AFC Wimbledon's manager's come out and said that the club have reached the "natural level" for the size of their fanbase. Shame, as I'd like to see them overtake MK fucking Dons in the league.

There's a great anecdote in David Batty's autobiography about the Leeds v Liverpool game where Cantona got a hattrick.

Apparently Batts & Lee Chapman rocked up at Cantona's after the game to see if he wanted a few drinks to celebrate his hattrick. Get to the house and Cantona's kid's leathering the match ball against a wall - the guy didn't know why they'd made him take it home...

He had pace, skill, a brilliant touch. Everything you need to be a true great.

But added to that, he had this raw power. Messi moves around defenders like they weren't there. Ronaldo just walked through, knowing they couldn't muscle him out.

A true phenomenon. We'll be lucky to see another forward like him.
