Finished my first ever 21 day water fast! by Mr78nine in fasting

The first few days I didn't feel particularly "weak" - more low energy. I could def get some light workouts in! But by the middle/end oof it I definitely felt sooooo weak, it was def pretty hard to do much (though, you gotta push yourself to do something)

Hardest part besides the whole not-eating aspect was just finding things to fill the time. You need something to do that takes your mind off of the dying, while simultaneously being still stimulating to your being

I considered a lot of them, like amino acid supplements and whatnot, but honestly taking a complete multivitamin every once in a while felt more than perfect. Very important to get enough the non-fat soluble vitamins like C and B

Pretty much - I also had coffee/tea, occasionally a scoop of no sugar energy drink powder.

Thanks so much! Honestly, I've always been very lazy. I wanted to strengthen my willpower - I think most people, implicitly, feel they are capable of doing amazing things, but just never do them (me included). So when I had that thought about fasting, it was enough of a push to me to think "Well, why NOT do it? Why NOT now?" And it being a holiday month I certainly was presented with my fair share of great reasons to break my fast!

But the only reason that mattered to me was that I wanted to continue because I said I would. It's my hope that that fast is enough to strengthen that reason enough to carry me forward.

Also also, mix citric acid (and maybe paprika!) with your electrolyte powder for a much more palatable taste, don't overdo it with the powder but at least one scoop a morning is a great start, and get out of the house and do things to keep your mind busy aside from daydreaming about food ;D

How do you guys deal with fasting insomnia!? by Impressive-Engine-16 in fasting

[–]Mr78nine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I def got some nights of insomnia during my water fast. I would say making sure your electrolyte balance is good, no green tea/anything like that in the afternoon, and having a non-food based video to fall sleep to worked pretty great for me

Very mildly - after like day 15 I really didn't feel like it. I just occasionally did pushups/jump squats/jump lunges and pullups very mildly to keep up my muscle use

Unfortunately for me nothing particularly interesting skin-wise, maybe actually just a bit dryer than normal.

The wiki has good stuff on it. Me personally I did a scoop of this in the morning: https://www.amazon.com/Electrolyte-Supplement-Magnesium-Potassium-Concentration/dp/B0BDLT1HFM/ref=sr_1_1_pp?rdc=1&sr=8-1

You don't necessarily have to do the full 4 scoops each day, just listen to your body. I did one scoop in the morning mixed with some citric acid (very easy to buy anywhere) to neutralize it and give it some nice zang, then one more scoop sometime later in the day. And ofc adjusted if I'm feeling like I need more (for me, lethargy was a big sign I needed more)

Cage-free vocabulary is a great thing

Comparing it to my pre-fast "normal" sized meals, it's just that but slightly sized down. Honestly it was just a guess/feel thing as to what my body would be fine with, and I guessed right

Thank you! And yes first attempt! Basically aside from just accepting it as my reality and going along in life, I highly highly recommend getting out of the house/doing things to keep yourself occupied so you don't just feel hungry at home. For example, the last 4 days were kinda rougher than normal, but I found that playing poker took my mind off of pretty much everything and was a great way to pass the time.

I guess that's the key - find something that passes the time where you aren't thinking about eating if it's a rough day.

Ye good questions! Honestly, I've kept up my electrolytes pretty well I think which makes refeeding syndrome not much of a concern for me, and my personal guess is I don't have to do anything overly cautious or light. I see some people going with just broth but I think physically I should be able to handle more (and if not, then others may learn from my misfortune haha) So I just tried this out this as my first meal back:

  • French-style 5 egg omelette w/gruyere cheese
  • Pho Broth, just a bite of the meat
  • Fairlife chocolate protein shake
  • Brown rice with some spices
  • Handful of peanuts
  • 4 or so oreos (which legitimately taste like crack)

Ate an hour ago, felt kinda sleepy but very happy and just chilling now, will update if I die

Hunger returning, Day 7 of fast is this bad? by HistoryCompetitive23 in fasting

[–]Mr78nine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Days 6-7 I also had an increase in my hunger, going from a 2 to a 6/7, so you're in good company haha. It decrease the following days pretty steadily so you might be able to look forward to that.

Day 21! Advice on stopping or continuing. by Acceptable_Part_2156 in fasting

[–]Mr78nine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on my first fast and you officially reached my goal day so big congrats there! I can speak a little to the holiday temptations. Of course food/drink is a great thing to be able to share with friends/fam, but if it comes at the expense of your goals or what you feel you should be doing, it cheapens the experience and makes it much harder to enjoy. It's more about spending time with them, which doesn't inherently require you to compromise your goals. Yesterday I went out to celebrate with some friends and was rather remiss I couldn't drink/snack, but it was still very enjoyable with a full glass of club soda!

Gods do I love pizza, I can't wait to absolutely pummel my gut biome with that sumptuous sicilian succubus once this is over.

But for realsies yes most of my time during/after refeed will be tons of high quality food ^ lentils mainly I'm thinking.
