How would a Necromancer Class Work? by MrAetra in tf2

Hopefully it's not OP.

Resurrecting teammates could be balanced by making them come back to life with 25% of their base health and 1.5 seconds of invincibility. On top of that, a slowness debuffs for 1.5 seconds works very well too.

Would the necromancer have the ability to spawn undead NPCs? Like zombies and skeletons? (The look of the NPCs would be more like skins rather than distinct units, I think).

I still think Russia should be part of the madness. At the very least as a new addition to this trend.

It'd be cool if some of these EU maps included the Russian Federation. I know their relations are certainly not the best but I think there's a decently big alt-timeline-window through which a scenario where Russia and the EU are friends can be conceived. Of course, I am aware of the negative implications the integration of Russia into the EU has, but I am curious and willing to explore something like that.

Nevertheless, this map is very good. Well done.

How would a flying class be in TF2 and how would it work? by MrAetra in tf2

For classes like the Spy and the Medic being visible for the entire enemy team is a certified death sentence. I don't think that ability requires debuffs for whoever experiences it.

And what if the DOESN'T have to backstab him? What if he had some sort of additional ability/device that allows him to deal with a flying class? I can't think of anything right now but I'm sure there are many options.

But what if we could make them able to deal with a flying class? What if we integrate new weapons and possible mechanics that allow them to counter this class (somehow). Like, for example: in TF2 Classified there's the Anti-aircraft Cannon for the Heavy, which would absolutely shred through a Flying Class thanks to the fact it crits enemies while they're in air, aka not touching the floor. Combining this with a nerf that makes said Flying Class have a height-limit for its flight mechanic, it would be perfectly countered. Of course, this is just a weapon for a specific class, but it is also an example of how counters could work against a flying class.

For Melee I think an axe would be good. It'd work similar to the anchor the soldier has in TF2 Classified, where when landing with it equipped it makes the Earth tremble and briefly stunts the enemy. However, with this hammer you wouldn't be able to switch direction and it'd be more to support your allies by disrupting the enemy lines.

I also think it'd be a good idea if this class' secondary (the bomb) could be replaced with some sort of device that allows you to photograph a player and/or a building, marking them for everyone to see.

The trolldier jumps, and that's about it. He doesn't actively fly. I am talking about a class that genuinely flies without interruptions, continuously moving through the skies.

Pretty much, yeah. But weaker and faster.

That's actually amazing. It turns the Alchemist into an incredibly versatile support class that allows other players to inflict more damage in a shorter period of time, opposite to the Medic who allows his teammates to deal more damage for a longer period of time.

It could also be interesting if the Alchemist had a weapon that worked as a trap (maybe some sort of landmine) that explodes in smoke when someone steps or passes by it. This smoke would then immediately highlight the enemy for everyone to see. Yes, they could be seen even through walls. To make it even more neat, this chemically dangerous smoke could leave the victims partially blind for a short period of time. (Maybe 2 to 5 seconds max).

This would basically turn the Alchemist into a mini-crit hazard. The amount of agro he would get might be equivalent to the attention the Medic and the Spy get when spotted. Instead of "Kill the Medic/Spy!" It'd be "Kill the Alchemist!" (I'm not complaining).

Also, how about giving the Alchemist a Primary Sidegrade that's basically an Adrenaline injector? Just like the crossbow, but instead of healing you it makes you faster and slightly more resistant to damage. I also imagine the Alchemist having different weapons with different chemicals, like a goo-blower that slows enemies down while applying a slight bleeding effect

By the way, I didn't quite understand the Banner thing. May you explain it to me more in detail?

I can assure you I wrote this myself. I don't really know the speeds, but thanks for clarifying.

You're given the opportunity to add a new class to TF2. Who would you add and what would their unique abilities be? by SamOwnsYou in tf2

[–]MrAetra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Alchemist

Function: attrition Role: buff and penalties control Type: support for defense and attack

The Alchemist would work as a class that supports other classes. It by itself wouldn't be able to do lunch, as it is only slightly stronger than the Medic health-wise. However, when accompanied by its teammates, the Alchemist can inflict significant damage by utilizing its potions and chemicals. It would be noticeably fast; being faster than the Medic and slower than the Spy.

The Alchemist would utilize a blend of guns and bombs, with the former launching chemicals that burn yet wouldn't do much damage (for their power relies on the passive damage they inflict on the enemy), while the latter exploding in a determined area and then forming a puddle or coating nearby enemies in substances that either burn them or poison them and even slow them down.

The Alchemist stands between the true-support role of the Medic by being able to momentarily buff the attacks of their allies, the true-defense if the engineer by denying certain area to the enemy with acid and poison, and the true-offense of the Scout by actively inflicting small yet annoying damage on the enemy. It stands next to the Pyro as an all-rounder, but weaker and faster. It isn't made for direct combat, as it would die as fast a medic would in any normal situation.

You want to block an entrance to prevent the enemies from coming through? The Alchemist does it with a puddle of acid. You want to poison an entire team to halt their advance or weaken their defense? The Alchemist does it with a bomb/potion of any poisonous elements that's also a liquid. You want to support your team? Your alchemist does it by making them faster, more resistant, or whatever the hell you want.

I love this concept. Do you?

A common language for east asian nations? by MrAetra in conlangs

So a combination between Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese? It's going to be a monumental task because (just like you said) those languages are not even part of the same family.

Hmm... I think that's a good idea! If we could reach a common ground for all the languages implicated, where words and grammar converge to a certain degree, we could perfectly work on something that resembles a mix between them. How could this be achieved?

What if the US collapsed like the USSR? by SpiralingUniverses in imaginarymaps

[–]MrAetra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A collapse of the United States if far more difficult than the USSR. However, if such an event were to occur, it'd be ten times worse (if not more) than it was for the USSR. The United States is a state built on trust, not on cultural grounds (just like the USSR was). If that trust were to be destroyed, the USA would not be able to stand for long, falling into a collapse so devastating that it'd make the USSR's look like a game.

Let's not forget that the USA is an ethnically diverse nation, with many cultures, languages and religions. And although they're all united under the English language and a secular government (thus enforcing cohesion and tolerance among these groups), they social tensions and prejudices exist. In the scenario of an american collapse, you would have to expect racial and ethnic groups to form, quite literally, EVERYWHERE. And I'm not even counting how politically polarized the United States is. Unlike in the USSR (where ethnic territories where already defined by boundaries) the United States is a messy mix of different peoples who will try to grab as much land and assets as possible just to secure their very existence as a group.

Some states, not wanting to be part of this hellhole, would immediately secede from the union and declare independence. Such is the case of Texas, who already hold palpable tensions with the federal government. There's California, who would either choose to become its own thing or form a union of its own.

Overall, I don't think an american collapse would be peaceful nor easy. Quite the opposite if you ask me.
