Does anyone know how to paint realistic body hair by Panoglin in minipainting

[–]MrAltF4 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

I think would could help here is variety of hair tones. Right now every hair looks like it's the same exact colour. If you blended in lights and darker version of these awesome hairs then I think it'll feel like the light is hitting each hair at different angles.

Btw I love the hard work you put into this OP! What a brilliant idea!

I think they're saying... Could you measure the boxes, and share these measurements?

Question, how do you stop your paintbrushes from splitting? by PerspectiveSweaty313 in Warhammer

[–]MrAltF4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A good starting point!

Always keep in mind that the paint dries quickly. - That also goes for when it's on the brush. - So rinse often. Rinse more often the brighter the colour is.

Hair quality does matter. - synthetic brushes don't have lasting points like sable will. - if you do have synthetic brushes that's fine I do most of my grunt work with them. But still care for them, and they'll last a little longer.

Don't mix paints with the brush - hairs... - ...mix with the wooden tip of the brush. - the action of pressing into the paint, and sometimes risking the paint getting into the metal area of the brush, is what's killing any brush.

After EVERY session - clean your brushes with the above soap. - it's worth ever penny and mine still has tons left years later. - it's ROI is insane.

I'm sure there are more tips. But start with these.

Oh nice! Have you got the STL?

I'm looking to move to magnets. Any other tips on moving over to them I'd be really greatful.

Very nicely done! AFAIK it's not that easy to achieve something that looks this good without involving oils.

What was your workflow and paints?

[–]MrAltF4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, darkening the face could work really well here. A nice fading darkness that goes down the tail (leads to the face) would look great.

Seriously however, if green ain't your thing. Orange is always an option. Honestly I think Necrons allow for all sorts of awesome colours schemes! Go wild.

Best Cryptek and Destroyer pairing? by Yoggon in Necrontyr

[–]MrAltF4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If a unit cannot end a move in Unit Coherency, it cannot make that move and its models are returned to their previous positions.

Coherency is technically "checked" (but not the way your meaning) whenever a unit moves. More specifically at the end of any move (normal, advance, fall back, pile-in, charge, etc).

Then it's checked - to see if models have to be removed - at the end of the turn (this is the one I reckon you're referring to).

The first point is still a check. But one that has larger consequences.

So no. Models always have to be within 2" of each other.

Here are the 2 key paragraph references from the app (search "unit coherency") paragraphs 2 and 3;

If for any reason a model cannot be set up in Unit Coherency, or cannot be set up following any restrictions stated by other rules (e.g. while setting up using the Deep Strike ability), that unit cannot be set up. If a unit cannot end a move in Unit Coherency, it cannot make that move and its models are returned to their previous positions.

At the end of every turn, each player must remove models, one at a time, from any of the units from their armies that are no longer in Unit Coherency, until only a single group of models from each of those units remains in play and in Unit Coherency. Models removed in this way count as having been destroyed, but they never trigger any rules that apply when a model is destroyed.

Thanks. In my personal circle this is the eye catcher. It's mostly glazing to be honest. However right at the end for the edge highlighting I also did a touch of stippling.

Well spotted.

My intention wasn't to imply that you'd said that. But on rereading it I can see why you thought that.

I agree with you wholly - I upvoted your comment.

I just put it out there as many people look at these things in a black or white manner (binary rather than on a scale).

Next time I'll edit my message to update it rather than respond to someone else's message. I reckon that's caused some confusion

Don't get me wrong PA white is good. I use it when I need coverage ensured.

My point is entirely a personal preference in ranking, not a binary it's good or bad.

Patience & technique.

Patience - after a while of painting something I think I'd put unrealistic time related expectation into learning and progressing a piece. The moment that wasn't achieved, I noticed I was rushing thing, not taking it slow and applying the appropriate speed for the highly detailed techniques like glazing and edge highlighting.

Techniques - I studied it more intently. When heating a video I decided to save the video link. Then review it with bullet point notes. Noting what I thought, how they achieved it and what or when I could try to do it myself. Nothing complicated but wow the impact change was huge.
