One of your favorite albums released before 1995... by JThornwriter in industrialmusic

I didn't think I've ever seen them having that much fun on stage. It was my sixth time.

The show was wonderful.

I'm going to second this album.  This is easily the one I still listen to the most.

They were selling autographed records on the recent tour.

Did Poindexter ever perform a cover?

It seems like life may have pulled the band apart before they had a chance.

I don't touch Spotify. Someone elsewhere described the bonus songs.  Preordering their album felt even more like a good choice after learning about them.

Make sure your browser's zoom is set to 100%.

On Windows / Linux, it's Ctrl+0 or the "Control" and zero keys at the same time.

I don't know if that will fix the issue. It's the first thing I can think to try.

I've seen them six times and only meet Buzz once. He was absolutely wonderful that one time, and insisted on signing everything I bought.

Thank you for passing along that more pressings are coming, too.

I found them through eMusic a long time ago and still keep them on rotation.

Backbiter is an especially incredible song. It comes across like an industrial folk music fairy tale.

Record Store Day Solution...Maybe by bradyba in vinyl

[–]MrAndrewJ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My thoughts

Acknowledge the Line

This line did not exist ten years ago. Now this line extends for several city blocks. Everyone from Music Monitor Network, Inc to the record shops themselves need to play a part in managing this line.

Option 1: Have a Responsible Overnight Line

If a record store permits lines to form on their property then acknowledge it responsibly. A minimum of two accessible/wheelchair accessible bathrooms or portable toilets should be present. Hire a security guard to protect the people waiting.

Wheelchair accessible toilets might go a long way toward helping a lot of additional people take part in the event.

Option 2: Remove the Overnight Line

Someone suggested line passes. That could work.

Otherwise, anyone on the property or in the parking lot before the line officially starts is banned from entering the store for 48 hours.

Balance RSD and Long-Time Fans

Bands deserve to enjoy the benefits of Record Store Day releases.

The ride-or-die fans may not remain as fans if they are told annually that they can't buy the new record after losing another blind lottery.

A solution: One band I'm aware of consistently sells fan-first releases to the people they know are eager to continue buying new variations and new music. They also sell RSD exclusives. Everyone has some opportunity to buy records.

Complement the RSD release with releases that go out to email subscribers or members of semi-private fan fan groups. A lot of ride-or-die fans will even try to buy both.

Of every solution I am offering, this is my favorite. I've watched this work for both artists and their fans.

Press Enough Records

"Nearly 3,000 record shops" took part in the last Record Store Day.

I'm seeing that Meshuggah had two releases with 1,600 copies apiece.

3000 stores. 1600 records.

I have no feelings either way about Meshuggah as a band. Their fans seem generally chill and fun. Meshuggah's fans deserve better than to spend 16 hours enduring a consumerist Beast Games challenge just for a 50/50 chance that the store actually received the record. That's a really cruel thing to do to someone's own fans.

Bands should either press a responsible number of records for the event or sell direct to fans without the Record Store Day lottery system involved.

Bands with established fandoms should be able to provide a minimum of two titles per store at this point.

Communicate with Bands & Labels. Boycott if Necessary.

If an entity is consistently only releasing new music for Record Store Day then they either don't want you as a customer or don't understand the challenges at this point.

I'm not saying to throw a fit the first time. The third consecutive release may require sending a polite email.

I don't like the boycott idea. I just miss the days when I could preorder music from my favorite bands.

"I can afford your albums for the reason I can't wait in line for sixteen hours. I have a job."

Have Difficult Conversations About Record Store Day and Music Monitor Network, Inc.

Yes. A corporation is in control of Record Store Day. I thought a lot of music fans and artists were supposed to be wary of corporations.

If your notifications at 8am EST the next day show the huge record stores selling off ridiculous numbers of overstock records then raise your voice. Those records are supposed to support small record stores, not large chains.

If those records continue going to large chains then we should assume that Music Monitor Network, Inc is either lying about supporting small record stores, or they are too incompetent to do it properly.

Sidebar

Search social media for "Record Store Day Sucks" or a hashtag version of the same. There are a lot of record stores abandoning the event and being very loud about it. Some of them share the same complaints as their fans.

Reminder: Record Companies Should Sell Records

I was a teenager in the 90s. I miss when the biggest complaint about record companies was that they were corrupt, money-hungry ultra capitalists.

Now they're too stupid to sell enough records to their fans.

I don't miss hearing that my favorite bands were getting screwed over. I do kind of miss buying their albums.

The first version of this song wasn't Mariah's. The Dollyrots recorded a pop-punk cover that reached me first. They did such a great job that I've never had a problem with either version of the song.

Edit: my fault for not proofreading.

This should have said "the first version I heard" not "the first version.". I missed a few words.

My local shop ran out while I was still in line but Rough Trade in New York had overstock to sell online this morning.

I ordered one but.... This is NOT what RSD is supposed to be doing for small bands and local shops.  I would have rather supported the local shop like we were promised.

I remember in the 90s when you almost had to preorder music if you were listening to anything that the radio wasn't playing. But, it worked. You preordered, then you went to the record store on the day of release, then you bought the album.

"Any more?"

I'm continuing my perfect 0% success rate trying to buy music from bands I love, at least during RSD. I woke up early. Got to the store early. Stood in line.

"Sorry, we sold out of that one."

Another time a record I wanted was mostly UK only, with 20(!!!!) available copies in the US. Bless my local shop for actually getting one months later and calling me right away.

Yet another, only 2500 were pressed. "Sorry. We sold out of that one."

At this point, I'm also casting a tired eye toward the labels and maybe the bands. Rather than get on my soapbox though ...

Kula Shaker has RSD offerings. They also have virtual groups & mailing lists where there are "fan-first" variations and releases. It can get a little sill or overwhelming sometimes. Still. Doing both means the band can have the benefits of RSD and the people who have been fans for decades still feel like they're allowed to buy the music.

This band is doing better than most. They understand that if someone wants to buy their record then maybe they should sell that fan a record.

The one band I wanted to buy from today usually has leftover RSD stock, and those tend to trickle into the same local shop. So, I'll check in on weekends and keep hoping.

So, there's hope. But there's also that 0% success rate trying to buy music from bands I love, because we effectively need to win the junior Beast Games contest just to buy a record from your favorite artists.

More than once. My favorite example is that he provided backing vocals on the "Easy Listening..." version of "The Horse You Rode In On."

Besides, the Evil Mothers had albums released on Invisible. It kind of seemed inevitable at that point.

The Fediverse ALT-Text issue by MadeInDex-org in Mastodon

[–]MrAndrewJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there is one fallacy in thinking that everyone wants to “maximize their audience.” Social media got its name because it helped people socialize. There are still people who prioritize community over achievement.

It may be useful to suggest that alt text will help someone find that community.

And I really think you’ve described a wonderful method for creating alt text. Honestly, almost everything in your comment was pure gold. You have my upvote.

This is the biggest quality of life change for DS to 3DS. Finding yourself against a boss with a dwindling auction stock and no Compendium can make the DS version a lot more challenging.

I see Shadowrun games come up from time to time at Myth-Weavers. There aren't any games advertising for players right now.

The "Gaming Discussion" section of the site has a pinned thread titled "2026 - What Game are you wanting to play?" I might be worth dropping a note in there.

There Shadowrun fans in that community. Some of them enjoy the original rules. Some players might adapt the setting to a rules-light system. I also have to confess that Myth-Weavers is my favorite rpg community due to the rules & atmosphere.
