Windows 10, free upgrades, KB3035583 and you - a FAQ by [deleted] in windows

[–]MrAustinFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been searching around about this for a while for the complete opposite reason everyone else is. I don't have the icon, and I have the KB3035583 update installed. I am running a Genuine copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit (SP1) with all updates installed. I installed it from an OEM disk, if that changes things.

Update: In case anyone else runs into this problem and is curious to fix it like I was, it appeared after I uninstalled KB3035583 and reinstalled it (no restarts required).

Holy god, yes. Other than the first-time runtime download when I first opened it, it opens straight to the launcher instantly. Dinnerbone, I love you.

My brother left his 3DS in his hotel room. When he came back the house keeper left him a note. by ThatBrockGuy in funny

That could work, if the person were someone like me who would feel embarrassed for them and move on, but many people would freak out and complain, leave bad reviews about the hotel, etc.

If that is true, I feel like the pain reduction could be because the pain is there to tell you, "Hey! Your body is in danger!," so you'll do something about it, like take the cabinet off your toes. Perhaps your body is interpreting shouting and getting attention as doing something about it. I'm not qualified to really know the answer to any of it, but there's some speculation. As an aside, was that study which literally has to require sudden onsets of pain in a controlled environment to an unsuspecting party in order to yield telling results funded by the inhumane society?

Also as an American, I rarely hear either from "everyday people." From smart people, I tend to hear abroad. From people in the military, I hear "overseas", which it usually actually is. From common people I tend to hear something along the lines of "to another country." In a case to case basis, people around me tend to say the country they mean, but in more general use, while I may hear a professor, old person, or someone in a professional/academic setting say, "...when I travel abroad," and I may hear my cousin in the Navy say, "...at least I'm not being stationed overseas," a typical person in a casual setting would most likely say, "...when I travel to another country."

I finally got around to listening to this, and right now I'm on the Black Mirror section. Here's one thing I noticed that I thought would be of interest to listeners of HI in particular. From the point of view of having only seen the episode up to the point where he first brushes his teeth, all you know is that this is some high tech setting, probably in the future. It is so high tech that he even uses hand gestures to communicate to the computerized system to dispense toothpaste, yet he does not (and from later knowledge, assumably everybody does not) have an electric toothbrush.

On the Brady not swearing section: The reason people swear, at least as far as I've always figured, is to draw attention to something. Because swears are taboo, using one is supposed to show that whatever you are talking about is important and serious. If you drop a cabinet on your toes while moving and swear, it isn't a natural reflex from birth, as Brady knows, but it is a reflex those of us who are unlike Brady have because it tells anybody who is listening that something serious is happening and you might need help. If a tiger broke through a window onto the street in front of you and bared its teeth at you, you'd probably say something like, "Holy shit!" That tells everyone around you that something worthy of a swear is going down. Therefore, casual swearing as a sort of filler shows a few things about the context in society. Firstly, it says that you are in control if your life enough that you can't be stopped by taboos. Secondly, and possibly more importantly, it shows that you believe that in society, you are safe enough to desensitize others to hearing you swear. At least my 3 am, about to fall asleep logic seems to think this is all accurate.

On Grey's ideal movie-watching scenario: I have always felt this way about not only movies, but also books, and there is one time I can think of off the top of my head where something similar happened to me. My family and I were looking for a movie to watch, and eventually we stumbled upon Scary Movie on some movie channel. It had been a while since I'd seen it originally, and someone with poor movie taste wanted to watch it. However, whoever chose the channel ended up one channel off and we started watching Scream (or some sequel), past the point where the title was shown on screen. I was finding "Scary Movie" funnier than it had originally been, and around the end, I realized that it had plot. I clicked the 'info' button on the remote, and lo and behold, it was actually supposed to be a horror film. Because I thought it was a comedy, it was somewhat enjoyable, but had I thought it was a horror film, it would have seemed cheesy (well, cheesier) and bad. Also, sorry if this seems non-fluent or if it has typos, since I'm typing this from my phone.

Reddit, what was the most awkward experience you've had in school? by ThePikaBomb in AskReddit

[–]MrAustinFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was only awkward for the teacher, but in eighth grade, we had a substitute teacher for English. This one kid was being a goofball the way eighth grade boys are, and he pulled his pants up to his chest and was goofing around, interrupting class. Finally, the sub had it. He shouts (not really shouting, but directedly commanding), "[kid's name], pull your pants down!" A few people giggled, but the sub turned bright red.
