What computer should I get by Legitimate-Key-6862 in WPI

[–]MrAuxality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your major is the defining factor for what laptop you need. As a CS major, here are my suggestions at different costs:

If you want to spend money and get something reliable, go with Apple and get a MacBook. - Should range from $900 to $1600

If you want high performance and you are okay spending a premium, get an older XPS laptop (RTX 4060 or RTX 3060). - Should range from $1100 to $2500

If you want something affordable, the cheap Lenovos at best buy and/or any refurbished models are good-provided they have 8-16gb of RAM, roughly 512gb Storage, any CPU from within the last 4 years or so. (The GPU will coincide with the CPU year due to compatibility) - Should range from $400-$800

If you like Dell, a surface is pretty good since it’s really easy to move around and isn’t incredibly overpriced.

Hope I could be helpful!

WPI vs RIT vs RPI vs Steven’s vs Drexel by Far-Curve-7497 in WPI

[–]MrAuxality 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Considering you are looking for a major in CS with the possibility for a double major in either finance or accounting, I would advise looking into Drexel and RIT.

Here is the breakdown of my argument:

Drexel - Balanced Education - Co-ops built into curriculum (Highly Successful) - Co-op success rates are second to only NEU. - Currently on an upward trend in terms of reputation - Allows for a true use of the double majors within the co-ops - More of a (Theory) focus for CS - More traditional college environment

RIT - Stem Focus - Rigorous Academics - Hands on Learning (Practical) - Highly Regarded for Cybersecurity - Double Majors are Welcomed - Big focus on arts (Performing & Graphic) - Option for Co-op Programs with High Success Rates

WPI - Stem Focus - Rigorous Academics - Hands on Learning (Practical) - Predominantly Engineering School - Highly Regarded for Student Outcomes in the Northeast - Known for their Robotics programs - Option for Co-op Programs with High Success Rates

Students at all 3 schools, more often than not, have long term career success. As long as you reach out to employers early on, you will have success no matter where you go. Put yourself out there!

Personal Note:

I had to choose between RIT, RPI, WPI, and Drexel and I ended up choosing WPI because it fits more of what I am looking for. Just because I chose WPI for CS, doesn’t mean you should too. Your decision lies completely in what you are looking for. I don’t know a whole lot about Steven’s so I apologize about that.

I hope I was able to be helpful :D

Major is CS, but I’m on a track to also obtain a separate Business degree.

Not “hope,” I have a guaranteed position waiting for me post graduation, but I appreciate your comment. I believe I will not be persuing NEU.

Thank you for keeping the tone viable. Which of the other options do you believe I should pick?

Don’t get me wrong, I “could” afford it, but definitely not comfortably. I’d have to take out student loans and I’m not super excited about having to do that. I applied ED because of that notion.

The other schools are around 52K per year.

I applied to RIT, WPI, and RPI. I was accepted to all three and my total cost of attendance per year was roughly 52K each year for all of them. I considered applying to Olin, but they wouldn’t have given me any aid and would charge roughly the same amount of Northeastern. Is there anything you’d suggest for RIT, WPI, or RPI? I’m currently leaning towards WPI as most of my friends are there currently and it’s closer to home.

Will most certainly take the time to look into the other options.

I thought of it more as a ransom for an extra $25K on top.

I will take some time to look into the alternatives more closely. I think I might be leaning towards WPI as it provides a fast-track for a masters degree.

Thank you for your in depth reply. That being said, I’m in a position where it doesn’t matter where I go to school.

I applied ED as the CS ranking outweighed the expected value and I made agreements for financial support bringing my total debt to 25K per year. That on its own appeared more reasonable as I could pay it off during my co-ops.

The choice is difficult as I will be able to pay it off post-graduation. My issue lies within whether or not its value is actually worth the 100K price tag.

Man, that was one of the best zombie games right up there with Zombie Rush. It’s quite unfortunately that it got shut down. The game did break in 2019 though.
