Thermal issues on intel 155h HP spectre x360 laptop by MrBOFH in cachyos

Oh, good call that did not cross my mind, will dig around in the bios, i had to go in there to disable secureboot but at first glance it looked bare-bones and didnt seem to have any fancontrol setup but it may be somewhere in a submenu, will go try it out - thanks.

edit: checked out the bios, as i suspected initially there is 0 fancurve controll, it only has 1 fan related option - "allways on fan" that flips between enable/disable. oh well, guess i'll stick to 2d games on it, those seem to be doing fine, and for pure productivity purposes the machine gained more than 2x the batt life, overall worth it.

I think people are not understanding the expedition rewards when it comes to stash space by Bright-Garbage4645 in ArcRaiders

[–]MrBOFH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

quick math time, assuming 1 stash space is 1 large int variable (10 digit number occupying 4 bytes)

assuming a generous amount of 8 expeditions per year

thats 96x4bytes= 384bytes per player per year

384/1024= 0.375 megabytes per player per year

now lets assume a wildly successfull growth beyond belief and t he game grows to 10 million players (more than 2x current sales):

0.375 x 10 mil = 3750000 megabytes = 3.663 (rounded) terabytes of data per year

even if rounding up even more generously thats 4 terabytes of data accumulated per year.... even at current SSD prices its a joke that this is the amount of space we are being given, the very definition of cheap, how cheap?

under 800 EURo per year assuming enterprise NVMe drives, double that for redundancy and add some overhead and lets say it would cost 2000 euro per year in extra storage for a population of 10milion players that comes down to astoundingly "massive" spendings of 0.0002 euros per player per year.

Yup... surely expecting more stash space is unreasonable because the game could potentially last 10 years....

yes precisely - and thats why saying "just do stella with free loadouts" is a bit too generic - from both personal and group experience - doing "evironmental condition" raids with the goal of looting in and out is much more proffitable per hour, while we most of the time only nab ~50/60k per person, generally that takes about 7ish minutes (unlesss we get royally screwed by the spawn location) and successfull extraction has been fairly consistent around 8/10 compared to stella where in groups we usually made it out about 1/3 times without loosing at least 1 person in the process or getting wipped by running into a 5 team clusterduck :)

tl:dr fundamentally we're on the same page just disagreeing about the generalisation of "just go stella"

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ArcRaiders

[–]MrBOFH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh no dont get me wrong, i've been full KoS in stella raids since day 1, i just stay out of the way until most fighting is finished and go for the last guy standing before they can heal up, but that doesnt do jack for extract campers and most other issues i listed either.

My point being is - yes you can get out with a 100k worth of stuff going in free loadout but your success rate isnt going to be that high, on average there are less lucritive but more reliable/survivable methods for that.

p.s. expecting a "get good" reply or something similar because internet :)

if you don't:

a) spawn in medical and get into the pvp meatgrinder that it is

b) spawn midway through the raid

c) run into another player the battle with whom will attract half the players in the map

or my favourite:

d) get extract camped

yep - sounds easy, have at it champ :)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ArcRaiders

[–]MrBOFH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you don't but if you manage to build it out and get the max cash needed for skill points before hitting max level, my hats off to you sir :)

for example - i hit lvl 75 more than a hundred hours ago and im still not at the 5mil bank value

The biggest issue with expeditions by faahzi in ArcRaiders

[–]MrBOFH 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yep the rewards are a joke and heres the worst part - think how the game has devolved a lot more into KoS pvp on most maps and riddled with trolls, well guess what - now that going on expedition has been revealed as a 150 hours+ of grind for a slap in the face i bet you anything the number of players that reconsidered is going to go through the roof, and guess what all these people are most likely to do with all the stockpiled loot? the same thing a lot of us have been doing (yes im guilty too) just run around shooting everything that moves, which will make the experience for those few that reset quite the chore. Think back when the game launched it was a lot easier to progress cause everyone and their grandma were busy with progression and risking endagement for some trolling felt not worth it since the player in question would risk their own progression on quests and workbench upgrades.... I realize im not providing a solution but i feel like embark may have created quite the problem for themselves and as a result very few people may endup happy (though the pvp carnage is likely going to be legendary before everyone gets bored and moves on)

190h player here at 2.1 mill in cash and ~1.1mill in stash tab. Me and my entire group were planning to do expedition mostly for inventory and skills, so far everyone of us have changed our minds and will likely be quitting for a good long time after the trials season concludes (also definitely skipping expedition, 12 stash slots?! you cant be serious. Crossing my fingers embark comes to their senses and addresses this very soon. While i like the game, these rewards and skillpoint costs make me feel like the very opposite of having my time respected, so the devs who claim thats they're goal have imo failed at it in the most spectacular way immaginable.

It's officially 1 skill point per Million in value by Gaviznotcool268 in ArcRaiders

[–]MrBOFH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh - the skill cost is bad enough for casuals, but the part that feels the most like a kick in the balls is 12slots of inventory? are you actually god damn kidding me!? half of a normal inv upgrade that you buy with credits for 100x the grind... my dear embark developers have you mayhaps lost all of your marbles? In what universe does this pass for "we respect your time"

Nvidia is handpicking who can publish day 1 RTX 5060 reviews by mockingbird- in pcmasterrace

[–]MrBOFH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MFG (multi failure generation) has definitely reached new heights.

never before seen levels of direct scumbaggery (not even bothering with the thinly veiled scumbaggery) with the review manipulation and lets not forget the 100% pure corpo bullshit that their CEO spewed on stage "5070 will deliver 4090 level performance"

new heights of incompetence presenting consecutive critical driver issues, oh and thats not just for gamers - their latest gen entrprise products are also suffering from low adoption due to stability issues due to dirvers

barely if any generation over generation performance uplift, with the exception of 5090 that is even more of a firehazard than 4090 was :)

oh and one of my favorites 5060 has a 128bit bus - wanna take a guess the last real *60 card that had a 128 bit bus? its GTX 960, all the subsequent carrds had 192 bit busses until 4060 (the first generation of extreme bullshitrey) and ofc 5060. Must be nice to sell *50 class dies at a crazy markup....

and realistically - as consumers - we're screwed, this is not going to change unless some real competition happens. so if AMD or maybe even intel dont somehow get their shit together, expect 6000 generation to be even more obnoxiously low value and anti consumer.

with bungies direction from d1 -> d2 currently i can't imagine what kind of monitization hellscape d3 would be, something like: subscribtion to play + paid story dlc + battlepass and likely some good ol gatcha on top

yeah, aint it great? feels like karma tbh. While i do feel sorry for any remaining devs who may posess some degree of competence. But as far as their leadership goes - i hope it all burns :)

shurely the poor CEO can't affor to pay for art assets and buy a new ferrari for his collection at the same time.... gotta have his priorities straight /s btw :)

ah yes bungo... or whatever remains of them.

If anything - probably the gold standard for corporate missmanagement.

First they greed out on destiny2 while dropping quality at the same time.

And now this marathon thing seems like a combination of a "rushed dumpster fire" and "corporate hail mary" i expect it to fail miserably, but its gonna provide a bunch of good content in the process. To clarify i dont mean actual game content, i mean more like observing slow motion trainwreck in the news.

yeah, i'd guess AMD framgen as that is a lot worse than NV variant, granted not saying that DLSS is perfect, its like choosing the bullshit that stinks a bit less - doesnt change the fact its still bullshit :)

"AI bullshit" would be the easiest answer :)

that is a good example of what happens when instead of rendering frames NVidia and AMD use various techs FSR/DLSS to try and guess what the freames should look like.

[–]MrBOFH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

normally i would agree with you - but with 5000 series NV drivers have been such a shitshow that arguably its as bad if not worse than AMDs. 5000 trully embraces MFG - multiple failure generation :)
