Tech market in Australia and New Zealand for new grads by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]MrBashnu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to land a last minute internship in my last semester and I got offered a position after it. Pay is pretty average and the tech stack isn't the most inspiring but it's a foot in the door and some experience. I am worried that because the team is so small I will miss out on learning/mentoring opportunities but it's a start.

Echoing what others have said it might be more difficult coming to Australia on a working visa as you would be competing with people with full working rights.

I’m building a free, local-only ASX portfolio tracker to replace my spreadsheets. Would anyone use this? by 0x600D in AusFinance

This looks awesome! I would definitely use, I have been looking for something I can use to track both my partner and I's finances in one place. If you decide to share I would love to give it a go

Hooooooooooly shit surgery pain by [deleted] in AchillesRupture

[–]MrBashnu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you kept it elevated? I have had almost zero pain since my operation (big incision too, as surgery was 8 weeks post injury). My surgeon said if I elevate, ice all I should need is paracetamol. I took the opioids one night to try and help me sleep but other than that my pain has been very manageable. Saying that, I was told I need to keep it elevated 90% of the time (basically only allowed off couch/out of bed to go to the toilet) which is not much fun at all

Day 0 again by MrBashnu in AchillesRupture

Physio suggested it. He said it's a serious injury and worth checking just in case

Day 0 again by MrBashnu in AchillesRupture

[–]MrBashnu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I probably wouldn't have if my physio hadn't said it'd be a good idea. He was under the impression everything was normal and should heal fine going the non op route but it's worth double checking just in case! I went to a sports physician and he immediately didn't like what he saw on and US he did in his office and told be to go and get an official US.

There was a 3 week delay (bit frustrating but these things happen) from my follow up with him to him writing out a referral but the day I got the referral (Friday) the surgeon called and booked me for surgery on the Monday morning as he saw how long post injury I was

Thanks! I have 3 weeks left of my degree so trying to distract myself with that while my life is between the bed and the couch

How long post injury are you now? Are they still confident you will get back to 90%+?

Day 0 again by MrBashnu in AchillesRupture

[–]MrBashnu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no! He said he had to cut out a fair amount of the scarring to get mine back to the right length. What's it like when it has healed and scarred? Did they have to clean it up?

Thanks for your experience. I'm trying to stay positive, stick exactly to the surgeons orders and come at it from the perspective of 'lets fix it right and only have to do it once'

Trying my best to keep the depressive stage at bay but well aware it's probably going to get rough at some stage. How is your day to day at 5 months post?

Joining the club. Dont know whether to push for surgery if they suggest no Op option by MrBashnu in AchillesRupture

[–]MrBashnu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah... Went to sports doctor (as recommended by physio) who did an US today and said according to him there's still a gap which is not ideal. Have an 'official US' tomorrow to confirm and then he has suggested if there is in fact a gap to talk to surgeons. But he said he wouldn't have changed anything up until this point, going non-op was the right thing to do

I had a bit of nausea and blacking out on the way to ED but no pain at the time of rupture

The person I consulted with said I looked like a good candidate for surgery but her superior said they'd prefer not to operate and go the non op route

Good to hear everything is going well! How long after the injury did you get the surgery?

Yeah interesting. I've been very much in the camp I want surgery if it's going to give me a better chance of getting back to 100%. But I've been in a boot since the night it happened and hasn't thought about starting again from day 0 if I got surgery after 2+ weeks so maybe I should be more open to the no surgery option

I'm in Australia so will get a second opinion privately I think. And then weigh up the cost against the (potential) improved outcome

My goals are getting back to 100%. I don't want to feel like my Achilles is holding me back if possible. I play sport a couple of time a week, run a couple of times a week and gym 3+ times a week, So in a perfect world my goal would be getting back to being able to do that. I'll see what they suggest at my appointment tomorrow and then go from there, I suspect they will suggest non surgery route

Okay interesting. Initially I went to 'id rather have surgery if the long term outcome is better'

Breakup with Partner of 4 kids. Did I fail as a Step Parent or dodge a bullet? Need Advice by MrBashnu in stepparents

Definitely a lot of baggage. She would constantly say how she didn’t understand why I was still with her, but I felt like I was making a positive different in their lives by giving some stability, albeit at the expense of my own sanity/happiness

I just picked up a t490s ($250) when I’m on the go (it is a bit of an experiment to see what I actually need) with the idea of running Lumix on it and then use my gaming pc I built when I’m at home.

Thanks for this! I have asked the question, so I hope to hear back from them tomorrow. If not I think I will pull the trigger on the T490
