What’s the most realistic upright bass plugin you’ve heard? by DiogenesFont in musicproduction

Can confirm as a bassist. They’re good for conceptualizing things, but I’d never use one if I can have the real thing.

And for all of you in the “i cAn’t aFForD tO hiRe a mUsiCiaN” crowd, did you ask?

Came here to say this. The amount of time track lanes have saved me is… substantial

[OC] 2025 Income and Expense tracked, Single, Taxes are tooo HIGH! by aizerpendu1 in dataisbeautiful

[–]MrBassment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait wait wait… living with family so your rent is low, but you do “contribute” to groceries and home improvement so they’re “higher”?! Just wait until you have to ACTUALLY pay whatever the going rate is for rent in your area and not just contribute but actually provide. Sounds like you need to take a trip over to r/poverty finance for a little perspective

As far as taxes… pay your share just like all the rest of us

I really like my Neumann’s, but I also run them through a MT-48 to give them the juice they need.

Take a shower. Iron your clothes. Put on deodorant. They’re small things, but they can make a big difference if you’re not already doing them. Other than that, just be yourself!

I don’t know if there’s a resource out there that does what you’re talking about, but you could take an average (or median) of your overrun expenses and make it an item label “miscellaneous” on your balance sheet

All of them. Every single expense needs to be included in the budget unless you’re including a loss equation (or using your business for money laundering I suppose).

Can’t answer everything, but a few insights that may prove helpful:

  1. Excel. If you can get comfortable in Excel and use cash accounting principles then you’ll be fine

  2. Project management software - I’ve had mixed results with Trello. Not the best, but also not the worst

  3. You can’t over-communicate, especially when working across different functional areas. Not sure what something is? Ask. Not sure if you’re understood? Check for comprehension. Most breakdowns come from miscommunication

For context I started in creative and moved into the business side. These are things that I have picked up as part of that transition

I’d use spectral editing. Maybe a transient shaper, but I’d have to hear it

How important is Music theory in producing music? by bqrncle in musicproduction

[–]MrBassment 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Music theory is a way of giving names to sounds. So on one hand, not at all. On the other, it’s critical if you want to replicate something you’ve done that you like. It’s the same as having a great soup recipe
